25.01.2022 A wind farm is being proposed to be installed on the former battlefield around Bullecourt, France. The two battles fought around Bullecourt during WW1 resulted in 10,000 Australian casualties. 3 to 4,000 bodies of Australian, German, English, and Scottish soldiers missing during the battles of 1917 have never been found and still lie under this ground today, including my Great Great Uncle Valentine Montgomery Starkey. "At the first punches, they will fall on bodies, that's fo...r sure," says a farmer in the village. How many corpses are likely to be crushed by bulldozers? It is sad, when one does not stop commemorating the sacrifice of all these soldiers with the centenary ceremonies. Thank you to Peter Walker for sharing his thoughts on this and reading from his Grandfather's (William Anniversary Ball) diary account of the First battle of Bullecourt. Please consider sharing this video.

21.01.2022 Commemorating 102 years since the unveiling of the Dardanelles Cenotaph. Believed to be the first significant memorial in the world to those who lost their lives at Gallipoli. This memorial was privately funded. For many years this was the place in South Australia where women came to mourn their men whose bodies never returned home.

21.01.2022 During April/May 2017 my Great Great Uncle Valentine M. Starkey was featured in the exhibition "Eyes of Arras". During this time I had the honour and the privilege of being invited to the Inauguration de l'Arche de la Paix at the Collège Saint-Joseph in Arras, France. The Arch commemorates the Great War Centenary and the Bataille d'Arras whilst also honouring those who have died in all conflicts and is a symbol for enduring peace. I made this short video as a thank you to my friends in Arras and as a small mark of respect to the Collège Saint Joseph community.

Ash Starkey: Valentine M. Starkey When World War One Digger Valentine Montgomery Starkey fell in the brutal battle of Bullecourt in France, he could never have envisaged that in 2017 his great great nephew Ashley Starkey would be instrumental in ensuring that his resting place among the thousands who died there would remain undisturbed."

04.01.2022 You can listen online now to my recent radio interview with Helen Meyer of Services Voices Radio Adelaide. "When World War One Digger Valentine Montgomery Starkey fell in the brutal battle of Bullecourt in France, he could never have envisaged that in 2017 his great great nephew Ashley Starkey would be instrumental in ensuring that his resting place among the thousands who died there would remain undisturbed. What do the world war one battlefield of Bullecourt; wind farms; and our Adelaide located Dardanelles Cenotaph have in common "

02.01.2022 "This project, I do not want it! Exclaimed the mayor of Riencourt-les-Cagnicourt. Its municipal council has signified its refusal by voting, by seven votes to one, the establishment of a park of six wind turbines in the southern fields of the town. Mr. Crutel does not have the power to oppose it (it is the prefect of Pas-de-Calais who signs the building permit), but he wants to make his voice heard. "We are not against wind turbines, but there are still limits. Too much is en...ough, there is everywhere! " Just over two weeks ago a small group of us commenced speaking up about our concerns for the wind farm planned for installation on the historic battlefield of Bullecourt, France. During that time we have had national and international attention and 'our' Veterans Affairs Minister has finally voiced concerns to the French officials. This is French land of course, and in no way do we want to tell them what to do, we just want them to know how upsetting disturbing the bodies of 1000s of men who lie under that soil would be for so many of us. It is not only Australians who are concerned, their are many French locals who contribute much energy and spirit in honouring our lost and dead. From our hearts we thank them deeply. Village meetings are currently being held on this matter around the Bullecourt area. Thank you very much Sharon Dusting, I hope in some small way I have honoured your ancestors and your passion to uncover their story.
