18.01.2022 * * *PRESS RELEASE* * * Community Cinema Needs Your Assistance. The St Arnaud Community Cinema team is excited about its opportunities for the coming year. Already it has secured some excellent movies with Ferdinand, Jumanji Welcome to the Jungle, The Greatest Showman and Darkest Hour set to screen over coming weeks. More information can be found in North Central News, on the Cinema website starnaudcinema.com, or search Facebook for Friends of St Arnaud Community Cin...ema. However, due to volunteers having to resign recently for health concerns, work commitments or family reasons, the Cinema is now short of volunteers to run the show, so to speak. Any new volunteers into the team are given training for the skills needed for usher duties or to operate the digital projectors. The jobs are not difficult to learn, and anyone with the right amount of enthusiasm will be warmly invited to join the friendly Cinema team - please contact the Cinema Convenor, Stephen Greenall or let an usher know at the cinema. It is a wonderful way to contribute to our town and socialise with the community in a relaxed environment. A Community Conversation is to be held in February to completely review our cinema operations screening days and times, film selection, pricing, fundraising, publicity, meeting the challenge of large TVs and streaming devices, volunteering, new opportunities for more broadly using the cinema, and other issues. Julie Pettett, the CEO of Volunteering Western Victoria will be facilitating discussion of these all-important issues and we are keen for people from all sectors of the St Arnaud community to bring your thoughts, ideas and energy to help make the Cinema more viable, and an even better community asset for the people of St Arnaud. An opportunity will be provided to view the projection equipment in the space called the bio box, and the other facilities, and be shown what the volunteers do to screen movies. Please place this most important Community Consultation in your diaries - it will be held in the Cinema, McDonald Hall, Town Hall complex on Thursday 15th February 2018 at 7.00 pm. Light refreshments will be provided. The Cinema team looks forward to your participation in retaining our Community Cinema as a wonderful asset for St Arnaud and District. 16.01.2022 * * * PRESS RELEASE* * * Refreshing the Cinema Community Meeting Its now time to think about how well the Cinema operates, who it engages with, the path it is taking and where it is heading. It is about change. In a changing world of technology, ideas, attitudes and demographics, change is necessary. It is also about bringing in new volunteers who can steer the Cinema in the direction it needs to go. At a recent meeting between Cinema volunteers and Julie Pettett, CEO of... Centre for Participation, there were some positive streams of thought in the discussions that took place. The Community Meeting planned for Thursday 15th February at 7pm will further these discussions as Julie, who will facilitate the meeting, will engage with the community to get as many ideas of the possibilities and uses for the Cinema. Prior to the Community Meeting an on-line Cinema survey will be posted on Facebook to gauge the communitys opinions and expectations of the Cinema. There will be rewards for the participants who take part in the survey as they could win some free passes to see some of the new and exciting movies coming up for screening in the near future. The Cinema is a vital part of the community of St Arnaud. Throughout the year movies are screened to appeal to patrons from all sectors of our community young children, teenagers, adults and senior adults, organisations and businesses as well as providing fundraising opportunities for community groups. We are asking people from all walks of life in our community to come along to the meeting to help refresh and generate ideas for the Cinema as we pose the all-important question: What does the Cinema mean to St Arnaud?
