25.01.2022 An interesting reflection from College Co-Captain Sam Cameron (2018) who is also a member of our Past Student Committee. In 2018, I was College Co-Captain with Bella Dredge. After finishing at Star, I commenced my degree in Commerce at the University of Melbourne. I am also concurrently completing a Diploma in Language (Italian). I am now in my second year and have chosen to major in management and marketing. I am currently a Human Resources Officer at a Melbourne uni student...s' society called SAMM (Students' Association of Management and Marketing). Here I work with a team of like minded individuals to create networking opportunities with people in the field and provide more information to management and marketing aspirers. I am also a Melbourne University Peer Mentor. This role involves taking on a group of 12 first year students and mentoring them in 5 sessions a semester about how to best approach studying and adapting to uni life. Finally, I am also a B-Com ambassador involving touring and providing information to prospective students about the benefits of undertaking commerce at Melbourne. I also work part-time at Baker's Delight in Brighton, I am a Netball Umpire and Netball Umpire Mentor and I also tutor in Maths and English. My hope is to eventually work for the AFL in a corporate role combining my long held passion for football with my love of Management and Marketing.

19.01.2022 We are looking forward to having Ellia Green as our guest speaker at our Sports Gala next week. Ellia attended Star of the Sea College from 2007 to 2010. Order of Australia recipient Ellia is a professional Rugby Union player who won a gold medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics, Rio, representing Australia in Rugby Sevens. Ellia famously scored a crucial try in the Gold Medal match in Rio. A successful sprinter, Ellia also represented Australia in the World School Games in Qat...ar in 2009. Labelled the ‘Fijian-born Flyer’, Ellia grew up competing in athletics before she was recruited into ‘Pathway to Gold’, an Australian Rugby Sevens talent identification camp for talented athletes from other sports. This was in anticipation of Rugby Sevens being added to the Olympics. When this eventuated in time for the Rio games, Ellia had her chance to realise her childhood dream of being an Olympian. Ellia is now a registered nurse as well as a proud ambassador for ‘Schools Rebuilding Schools’, an initiative by ‘Reach 4 Your Future Foundation’ which is supported by Microsoft, The Australian Government and the Fiji Government, among other major partners. Ellia is also the ‘face’ of household appliance manufacturer Beko’s ‘Eat Like a Pro’ campaign, which is trying to stem condemning trends about obesity and nutrition in young Australians. Ellia visited Star in 2019 to promote ‘Eat Like a Pro’ and students participated in Rugby drills and learned about nutrition. Ellia also shared her story of Olympic success and students had the chance to wear her Olympic medal and have photos with this talented Star Alumni.

19.01.2022 Thanks for sharing your interesting life and biography Geri Murphy (College Captain, 1973) - I loved my Star days, even the ones I didnt. We had no doubts about our right to go to university and follow a career. Caught in Catholic traditions we were able to challenge them, openly or through ingenious school girl covert rebellion that gave us a close sense of sisterhood. Ive always felt lucky that I came through school laughing and crying at the times I had there. My lif...Continue reading

03.01.2022 We are looking forward to having Tess Lloyd (and Ellia Green) as our special guests next week at our Sports Gala next week. Past Student Tess Lloyd (2012-13) has an inspirational story and has overcome significant obstacles including a serious sailing accident in 2012 and the recent 2020 Tokyo Olympics delay. Tess has qualified for the Tokyo Olympics in the 49ers FX Australian sailing team and although the Olympics will now be in Tokyo next year, Tess has already secured h...er place in the team. In 2012 Tess had a serious sailing accident where she was knocked unconscious in the water while competing and then spent nearly three weeks in an induced coma. After a challenging and delicate rehabilitation due to her fractured skull, family support combined with intensive physiotherapy, speech therapy and doctors saw Tess return to sailing within 10 months. Tess showed an incredible amount of determination and resilience during this time that she says she learned from her brother who bravely battled a brain tumor the previous year. Tess was a sporting talent at Star and competed in a range of sports at school including hockey, running, triathlon, cross country, basketball, swimming but her main sport was sailing. Tess first sailed at around 5 years old and is a member of the Brighton Yacht Club. The challenges Tess has faced enabled her to overcome the disappointment of the Olympic delay with resilience, as she knows just how lucky she really is. During lockdown she has worked on her fitness to make sure she is ready to truly embrace her Olympic dream next year.

01.01.2022 We hope our talented Stacella singer brightens your day!
