17.01.2022 ARTIST ANNOUNCEMENT: We are thrilled to announce the participation of critically acclaimed independent Australian singer-songwriter Lior alongside an amazing artist line-up for our upcoming 2020 Refugee Ball Virtual Experience. Lior burst on to the Australian music scene in 2005 with his debut album - ‘Autumn Flow’. The album was released at a time when independently funded and released records were still a rarity, Lior being one of only a handful of artists paving the way f...or a model that is now deemed common place. Over the past decade, Lior has toured extensively both in Australia and internationally and has been a regular performer at WOMAD and art festivals around the world. Alongside his own tours, Lior has also toured in diverse collaborations with numerous artists, string quartets and full symphony orchestras. He is renowned for the exceptional quality of his live performances. Lior collaborated with renowned composer Nigel Westlake in writing a song cycle for voice and orchestra titled ‘Compassion’ consisting of original melodies and orchestration set to ancient Hebrew and Arabic texts centred on the idea of compassion. Commissioned by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the work was premiered by Lior along with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra at the Sydney Opera House in late 2013 and subsequently went on to tour nationally with all the major state orchestras. A recording of ‘Compassion’ went to #1 on both the Classical as well as Classical / Crossover charts and won the 2014 ARIA for ‘Best Classical Album’. In late 2018, Lior released his fifth studio album ‘Between You and Me’. Following a wide range of exciting shows for Lior in 2019, he was awarded the Sidney Myer Creative Fellowship for ‘outstanding talent and exceptional courage’, one of only nine artists nationally across all art-forms to receive the award. Lior has also embraced his role as a mentor for young songwriters. He is a founding member, co-writer and key mentor in the APRA National High School Songwriting Workshop Initiative - ‘Songmakers in Residence’. Join us in welcoming Lior to perform alongside an amazing line-up of artists in our free live streamed event in place of this year's Refugee Ball, Thursday 26 November, 7:30pm AEDT. 10.01.2022 ARTIST ANNOUNCEMENT: We are thrilled to announce Grammy nominated artist, philanthropist and our international ambassador, Aloe Blacc, who joins a line up of world class artists performing at our upcoming 2020 Refugee Ball Virtual Experience by special arrangement from Europe. Blacc is a US-based artist, social and political activist and an inspiring change maker. He has used his platform to highlight issues from systemic racism, criminal justice reform to the Black Lives Ma...ter Movement, health equity and mental health, between the US and Australia, his second home, and the world over. Raised by Panamanian immigrants in Southern California, Aloe Blacc grew up around the sounds of salsa, merengue, and cumbia. He initially developed his own taste by throwing himself into hip-hop before trying out his soulful voice to other ends. Across three albums, his sound evolved and grew, finding a pocket that reflects the long and beautiful history of American soul with timeless, descriptive songwriting that speaks to the broad range of human experience, from platonic love to love for humanity, from politics to aspiration. Versatile and compassionate, his songwriting is classic in a way that makes categorization irrelevant; indeed, Blacc’s lyrics have been paired with dance music and country -- always to stirring effect. Aloe Blacc isn’t defined by genre. I think that rather than wallowing in the status quo, we need to be visionaries that are pushing forward with a beautiful new imagination of what reality could be. And every decision that you make and every piece of art that you create and every business venture you engage and every relationship that you entertain lead with your heart. When I say lead with your heart, I’m talking about love and compassion. - Aloe Blacc We look forward to this rare and special opportunity to hear Aloe perform material from his new album, 'All Love Everything' at this year's 2020 Refugee Ball Virtual Experience, live streamed free online, Thursday 26 November at 7:30pm AEDT. Register now to attend via Humanitix: https://bit.ly/3lsR98u #refugeeball #virtual #fundraiser #startts #International #ambassador #aloeblacc #artist #philanthropist #music #healing #allloveeverything
