24.01.2022 BREAKING NEWS: Adelaide’s annual Supercar street race is no more. The Superloop 500 has been cancelled for 2021 and State Racing Magazine understands the event ...will not return in the future. We will report more as it comes to hand. 23.01.2022 Random Recall - Today's 'Random Recall' Motorsport photo takes us to the Riverland area and to a place known affectionately as Grumpy's Garage Custom Builds. At... Grumpy's dwells a man called Luke Farrent who is the creator of many custom builds and top shelf racecar preparations. For over two decades Luke has perused his passion, not only as a racecar fabricator and builder but also as the wheelhouse attendant to many different racecars. The thing you can be sure of when Luke rolls out a racecar from the Grumpy's headquarters is that the preparation and presentation is always at a top level of excellence. Luke has competed in many different classes of Speedway which include V6 Sprints, Wingless Sprints, Late Models, Classic Rods and even Ramp Jump Races. While he has also tried his hand at Dirt Circuit and Off Roading. If you are in the market for racecar fabrication and restoration or just looking to have something of recreational nature built I highly recommend that you give Luke and the Grumpy Garage a strong consideration. God bless and take care, PC :) Random Recall is proudly brought to you by: State Racing Magazine.
22.01.2022 Random Recall - Up The Freeway and Around The Bend! With the Bend Motorsport Park currently the epicenter of the Australian motorsport scene, as we are smack ba...ng in the middle between the two rounds of the Supercars being hosted at the latest and greatest motorsporting facility in the nation and more than likely the world. I thought it would be fitting to look back at the same piece of real-estate located just past the township of Tailem Bend and appromimently an hour and a quarter from the CBD of Adelaide. The photos in this post are from the Speed Trial event hosted by the Sporting Car Club of South Australia on Sunday the 15th of August 2004, just one of many ventures to the then Mitsubishi testing facility. This style of event was ran much like a cross between Drag Racing and Hillclimb where cars would do a burnout to warm up the tyres before entering the staging position and then run an individual pass from point to point in a straight-line to post the quickest time possible. While there was an entry list climbing towards 100 competitors for the day with cars ranging from open wheeled racecar, historic racecars to modern day performance street cars a number of these cars were co entered with two competitors sharing the wheelhouse duties and each driver would make several runs over the course of the day. The selected images are to illustrate how basic the venue and it's facilities once looked when Mitsubishi Motors Australia owned the land prior to the Shahin family purchasing and redeveloping the property into the multimillion dollar venue it is today. The drag strip was flanked by mounds on each side and down towards the bottom on the left hand side was a large skid pan area. The event officials and commentators would sit in the elevated room above the staging area. At this time it is also important to note that the track surface was to be upgraded and that management had restricted the top speed to 150kms per hour until the strip was resurfaced. These events were often conducted in a very family friendly and relaxed picnic atmosphere where you could smell the sausages sizzling on the BBQ's. On many occasions I would travel and or spend the day shooting with great motorsporting lensmen such as David Batchelor, Lachlan Rex, John Lemm and Phil Williams to name just a few. To celebrate this trip down memory lane I have posted a new Facebook gallery with many of my images from this event. You never know you may rekindle a memory of a car, a friend or even find an unseen photo of yourself? 21.01.2022 Random Recall - For around two decades the front wheeled drive Speedway cars have been regarded as Junior Sedans and over that time have had an advantage over t...heir rear wheeled drive adversaries. The cars leading the way are mostly those front wheel driven machines with the advantage of being pulled around the track rather than being pushed through the corners. However today's 'Random Recall' Motorsport photos takes up back to 1996, prior to the creation of Junior Sedans the front wheeled drive theory was explored by South Australian Street Stock competitor Greg Goodfellow at Adelaide's Speedway City where he toiled away with his theory. It was fair to say that the little 3 cylinder SA83 Dihatsu Charade was under powered against the majority of the 6 cylinder cars however the Charade would have the advantage of less weight and better handling through the corners. Unfortunately the run was short lived and we never got to see the full potential of a front wheel propelled car in the Street Stock division. Fast forward almost a quarter of a century and the landscape of the automotive industry has evolved into a new era. With Ford and Holden no longer producing Falcon or Commodore products the future for Street Stocks hangs in the balance in regards to what cars will be used in the future, could we find a rear wheel driven alternative or will it be a front wheeled drive machine? This leaves us all something to ponder and debate as we evolve into the next evolution of the Street Stocks category.... God bless and take care, PC Random Recall is proudly brought to you by: State Racing Magazine.

19.01.2022 Random Recall - Today's 'Random Recall' Motorsport photos takes us not back to a time or place but a person affectionately know as 'Throttle' to his mates, Jaso...n Throttle Nottle. I first met Jason when he was a South Australian Super Sedan competitor who had a crack in the 1990's aboard his MB12 XR8 EL Ford Falcon. These photos of Jason in Super Sedan action are from Saturday 21st of November 1998 at Adelaide's Wayville Showgrounds, which was the last season (98/99) I can recall seeing him in competition. This post is not to highlite his racing endeavors behind the wheel but the man who hung up the helmet so he could dedicate more time to working for others and tirelessly for many years as part of the heart and soul that keeps the Murray Machining & Sheds Murray Bridge Speedway pumping along. Jason went from racing on the track to becoming an integral part of the very well oiled and dedicated push car team, pushing away the Sprintcars, Speedcars and many others who have required their assistance at the track. As a man who loves to be behind the wheel 'Throttle Nottle' loves to partake in many Ute Musters with his much loved AU Falcon and occasionally the spirit of competition flows through the veins, (also pictured) as recently as last year when he had a run at the 2019 V8 Lawn Mower Mallee V South East Challenge held at the Karoonda Farm Fair. 15.01.2022 RIP Ray Heart broken to learn of the passing of a man that was truly one of the good guys and a person that lived by the code; It's nice to be important but it ...is more important to be nice. He was as down to earth as they came. I first met Ray Scott when he ventured down to Adelaide from Mount Gambier around 1995/96 for a practice meeting at Speedway City where he took to the track in the ex Dave Ferrall owned Jarvis Ford JSR Sprintcar driven by Jamie Cobby. Also down from the Mount was South Aussie Sprintcar legend Bill Barrows who had given his time to assist Ray and help him come to terms with the SA55 winged machine. Ray and I struck up a conversation in the pits at the end of the night where he had showed me his race transporter and told me how he used an old Scott's Transport refrigeration trailer to build the transporter trailer and from that point forward we struck up a lasting friendship. Before too long Ray had helped me to set up a strong media connection with the Border Watch Newspaper where I would supply them many Speedway photos and many years later Ray would become a strong supporter of State Racing Magazine as an advertiser in every issue for Scott's Transport. Over the years I had the pleasure of photographing Ray race as he progressed into an ex Peter Murphy Maxim, I remember this car well as it was the first car I ever saw with the cut down Maxim bonnet, something that proved to be popular for seasons to follow. Sadly Ray's career would come to an end after a huge crash at Warnnambool's Premier Speedway in Victoria, when he crashed and the diff punched the bottom of the chassis / seat and injured Ray's back. Ray once said to me it was a pity that he had to retire because he felt for an old fella he was just starting to get the hang of the Sprintcar game! Ray started his racing career at the very beginning of the Borderline Speedway and he and the Scott family have been strong supporters of the club since the inception. While Ray was forced into early retirement his passion for Sprintcars was still strong as his son Ashley Scott would take the wheel house of the #55. In addition to Ash, Peter Murphy and The Hurricane Randy Hannagan would both tenure the Scott's Motorsport v55 and in the last few summers Brooke Tatnell has occupied seat as team driver for World series Sprintcars ,where the team has achieved some fantastic results. However one would feel that there is still some unfinished business for the Scott's Motorsports Team as they have been so close to winning some big name events which include The Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic and the Australian Sprintcar Championship. On one of my many visits to the Mount I was without a place to sleep and Ray offered me to sleep at his house, while I did not take up the offer as I traveled back to Adelaide I was forever grateful for the offer and this was just one of my many chat's. The last time I had a good conversion with Ray was at Mark Gilbert's Monster Truck event at the Adelaide Showgrounds in Wayville, I never would have thought that would be our last time but I am thankful for every encounter. Whatever becomes of the Scott's Motorsport Team, I would like to wish them all the best going forward but more importantly at this time my heart felt condolences go out to Ash and the entire Scott family. God bless and take care, PC
14.01.2022 Hold the phone! Today's 'Random Recall' Motorsport photos takes us back over a quarter of a century to 1994 and the place was Adelaide's Speedway Park. But not ...for a race, rather a side event between two of the winged warriors in Philip March s3 and Brett Lacey aboard the v26 Sikaflex Maxim. The event was a Sprintcar Wheelie Competition between two gladiators keen to point the wheels to sky and give the fans something to cheer about. Each of the competitors came out for two cracks on the front straight and down the back shoot, with their top wings pushed forward they both gave it everything they could (as pictured). Philip made the most of his attempts aboard the black attack Maxwill Motors s3 Schnee and the local was chosen as the winner which was judged solely on crowd reaction at the completion of the event. The prize on hand was a new Optus analogue mobile phone proudly presented by an Optus representative and Speedway Park trophy presenter Debbie McCormick. At the time Optus was the new and second phone carrier to enter the Australian market and sponsoring a Speedway event such as this was a good way to get their name across to the demographic of motorsporting fans. In the early 1990's owning a mobile phone was only had by a select few who could afford such a luxurious item, oh how time's have changed! Small side events like this can prove to be a popular attraction to any racing program. Maybe some of the current venue promoters could look at holding the odd novelty event just to change things up a little by using a colour commentator to fire up the crowd, some prizes other than cash such as sponsors products which is a great way to build sponsor / venue relationships and last but not least bring the paying public into the event with some crowd participation. God bless and take care, PC Random Recall is proudly brought to you by: State Racing Magazine.
14.01.2022 During this self isolation period I have had the opportunity to post a few photos and give some praise to a few people who played their own little part in the A...ustralian Motorsports scene. Stand by Motorsport fans, I am currently working diligently on something really special and at some point ASAP I will be dropping a major Speedway photo gallery from an event that I consider the Speedway equivalent to Vince McMahon's ground breaking Wrestlemania 1. The event was designed to take Speedway truly global, it was truly visionary and I was lucky enough to be a part of it with my trusty camera. This gallery will be a mixture of on track action and some behind the scenes with some of the people involved. We are turning back the hands of time, spread the word and I hope you enjoy the gallery to come... What could it be? Watch this space... 13.01.2022 BREAKING NEWS - Valvoline Raceway Season Postponed Many Speedway people around the nation have waited with baited breath to see what the biggest and most well s...upported venue in the land will do in regards to the commencement of the 2020/21 season. The rumors around the back streets and alley ways have ran rife for quite a while and now we have official word from the Made Too Go management group who currently hold the tenure of 3 main Speedway venues... -------------------------------------------------- Release from Valvoline Raceway: Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic restrictions and border lockouts, it is with regret that the Management of Valvoline Raceway announce that the scheduled start to the 2020/21 season on October 3rd will be postponed until further notice. The management team will continue to monitor the restrictions and guidelines set by the NSW government but is not expected to give a further update until November. As this will be the last Season at Valvoline Raceway before the Government take over the venue, we will schedule in racing as soon as it is safe to do so. -------------------------------------------------- With this being said and done in New South Wales, I wonder what this will do to the upcoming season at the Murray Machining & Sheds Murray Bridge Speedway? With South Australia's COVID conditions different to that of the eastern seaboard and not to mention the even stricter restrictions currently enforced in Victoria it will be interesting to see what the 'Made Too Go' management team do at their other venues. From a personal perspective my heart goes out to all sporting codes administrators, promoters, clubs, competitors, corporate partners and fans. I wish you all the very best going forward and I hope that you stay safe and healthy in this most challenging time. God bless and take care, PC :)
12.01.2022 DID YOU KNOW: Helmets are now fitted with a detail card. Helmets that have this red sticker (in photo) indicates it is fitted with a rider information card in...side a padded flap in the top of the helmet. This card has all the urgent details of the rider from emergency contact right through to blood type. This is so first attenders know who and what they are treating on top of the accident injuries. IT IS IMPORTANT INFORMATION. please do not remove a helmet from a seriously injured person, wait till medics arrive and once they have safely removed the helmet it needs to be checked for this card. If you are just a by stander or witness please make sure first attenders are aware there maybe patient details in the helmet. They are suppose to already know this but: This helmet is a brand new carbon fibre helmet fitted with all the safety equipment including the gel padding it was involved in a serious mva on the weekend but family were not notified by emergency , police had no details because the person wearing it was seriously injured they let the medics attend to the person. Then the police had this helmet in possession but had no details. Luckily i rang the police looking for personal belongings they were greatful i called so they could get personal details. They had it in their possession the WHOLE TIME! PLEASE PEOPLE THIS CARD IS IMPORTANT TO THE RIDER, TO THEIR LIFE AND THEIR FAMILY!!! We are lucky as my brother had a blue tooth device fitted to this helmet and he was conscious enough to command it to call mum to let us know. Otherwise we would have had no idea for a lengthy time he was seriously injured.

11.01.2022 Flashback #6..... OK Facebook Universe, here is another one, a little bit of fun so get your thinking caps on.... Can you name this driver? Throw any names into... the comments section, have a wild crack! On the 28th of February 2004 this driver made his debut in Sprintcars at the Murray Bridge Speedway. Who is at the wheel of the ex s75 Tony Bartlett Gambler and what were some of the characteristic things that made the s69 car so uniquely special (3 of the 4 of the differences are physically visible in the photos and the 4th clue is given before your eyes but you can't see it), compare it to most other cars from this point forward and you will notice the differences. For bonus points can you name the other classes that this driver has competed in before entering Sprintcars? It is fair to call him a journeyman and is a much respected member of the South Australian Motorsport community. Proudly brought to you by: State Racing Magazine.

09.01.2022 Vale' Darran Harrison Four days a go I smiled when I read on Facebook Memories about your 5 year wedding anniversary and I reflected back to the time when you ...flew me to Melbourne with the highest honor of being trusted to take the photos of your Wedding day with the beautiful Michelle. Today the South Australian Dirt Circuit and Speedway, no make that Motorsport community has lost one of the good guys, a gifted race car fabricator, painter and Dirt Circuit competitor of yesteryear. It is with the heaviest of heart that I learned of the passing of my really close mate Darran Harrison. I want to sit here and write about a long bunch of things to honor you but truth being said I don't know where to start? All I know is that you are a great man who loved his family and they loved you every bit as much in return. You and your family took me under your wing when I was a bit of a lost soul and trying to find my feet when I returned home from New Zealand in 1997. We spent many times together building, working, racing cars but more importantly than that we and the group of people in the Harrison Racing Team were tight, we always laughed, you taught me 'bat flattery' and you guys always made me welcome and I felt like part of the family. Speaking of family my heart goes out to the Harrison family and those who were close. I understand the pain you are feeling because I feel it also. When I learned the news I wanted to pull my car over and cry as my heart sunk to my feet but I felt I owed it to Darran to get home and honor him the only way I know how and this is it. Darrin could drive the wheels off anything and this was evident when he raced Dirt Circuit at the Black Rock track. I remember the times we would travel to Whyalla and Port Augusta, etc for state titles and interclub meetings, man we had some fun as a unit and those times, faces and places will always be remembered. It's only been a few hours since heaven called for you but I miss you already. Darran Edward Harrison (RIP) God Bless, PC

08.01.2022 Random Recall - Before the 2016 Harvey Norman Supergirls wildcard entry for Bathurst piloted by Simona De Silvestro and Renee Gracie, today's 'Random Recall' Mo...torsport photos takes us back to the 1997 running of event and the emergence of South Australia's Kerryn Brewer who teamed up with Melinda Price to form the Castrol Cougas Team racing under the Castrol Perkins Engineering banner at selected rounds of the Shell Australian Touringcar Championship. The 1997 Primus Bathurst 1000 event proved to be a successful venture for the all girl team, having finished in a very creditable 12th position after starting from the rear of the 41 car grid after crashing during qualifying. The following season (1998) the girls came back for another crack at the Mountain and went one better to finish 11th in the FAI 1000 Classic. Prior to the the running of that event I recall going to Kerryn's house in Paralowie, just around the corner from where I was living in Salisbury North to take her profile photo for the Chevron Publishing produced 1998 Bathurst program (photo below) it was the first time that I spoke with Kerryn and I found her to be a really nice and polite person. At the end of that season the team was dissolved but the following season Kerryn found an opportunity to drive the #98 Owen Parkinson Racing CSA Wheels Holden VS Commodore in her home state at the 1999 Sensational Adelaide 500 which was the inaugural running of the Adelaide 500 street race. Kerryn claimed 26th in the opening leg of the 40 car field and unfortunately failed to finish the final 250km leg on the Sunday. After that I lost track of Kerryn's career, but I can recall where it began in her earlier days cutting her teeth in Karting, Super Karts and HQ Holdens at Mallala Motorsport Park. In 1994 Kerryn became the Australian 100cc non-Gearbox Super Kart Champion aboard her Benson-Yamaha. Wherever Kerryn is today I wish her and family all of the best going forward and I hope that they are living happily and healthy. Thanks for the memories. 06.01.2022 Rod Brady The Man In Black I thought I would take this opportune time to honor the career of Modified Sedan competitor Rod Brady or to his mates 'Bear'. A pass...ionate racer in the day and a man who loves his Motorbikes almost as much as he loves his wife Anna, or is it the other way around!? Rod started racing at his home track in Broken Hill New South Wales and throughout country Victoria aboard a Holden Torana before making the move to Adelaide. Upon his arrival in the big city he quickly joined the ranks of the South Australian Modified Sedan competitors and became a consistent front runner in the SAMPA Series which was a successful series ran throughout the state. Rod always had an immaculately presented #3 VK / VL Holden Commodore and the RB30 power plants never lacked in the horsepower department. From the best of my memory Rod always had black racecars except for the his last one which was dark blue, I recall joking at the time that his longtime sponsor Protec ran out of black paint for that car! I first met Rod through my mates John Burton and Trevor Best (RIP) down at the old Best Mechanical workshop on Bridge Road Pooraka around 1994 when I was working on my very first Street Stock which was also a Commodore. Rod and the boys mentioned above helped me to ready the car and I will always be grateful for their assistance. After a chat with John (JB) on the phone this morning I learned that Rod is the reason why Speedway has a mandatory yellow light thrown if a car is stopped on the track. In the olden days racing would continue with a stranded car on the track if it was deemed to be out of harms way. This rule was introduced after one night at the Murray Bridge Speedway, Rod pulled infield during the SA Modified Sedan Championship and had passed out behind the wheel from the Methional fumes. He sat in the car for quite sometime before the St. John attendant went to check on him as he was motionless in the cockpit. Rod's passion for the sport was strong, he was regarded as a very knowledgeable and mechanically minded person. After he had retired from competition he remained involved in the sport for the following season or two as a technical officer before moving onto the next chapter of his life. Sadly Rod is doing things a little tough at the moment in the health department but knowing Rod he will tackle it like he did his racing and that was flat chat and head on. I would like to wish Rod and his wife Anna all the very going forward and to let Rod know that he has the support of many behind him. 03.01.2022 Guess Who - Double Trouble! Good morning Facebook Universe and welcome to this beautiful Saturday morning and I hope that you have a great weekend a head. The y...ear was 1994 and the place in question was the final season of Adelaide's Speedway Park. The Super Sedans and Street Stocks in these two flashback photos both display that crashes can and will happen on any given Saturday night at the skids. For my Motorsporting / Speedway Sedans friends I thought I would give you a little something to think about. Time to get your thinking caps on and try to workout who are the drivers in both the Super Sedans and Street Stock images. Have a wild guess at naming any of the drivers, see how many you can get right? I will give you a (L-R) hint: Super Sedans: 3, 28, 6, 7, 34 and 5 Street Stocks: 36, 8, 124, ?, 59, 41, 104 and 49 * There is a big bonus point if you can identify the black car on the outside in the Street Stock photo, I can't work it out? I will post the answer tonight around 6pm. Have a great day and God bless, PC Random Recall is proudly brought to you by: State Racing Magazine.

01.01.2022 Happy Birthday To You! South Australia's iconic Mallala Motorsport Park unfurled their first green flag on Saturday the 19th of August 1961. 59 years ago to th...is day, so I would like to take this opportunity to say Happy Birthday to a place that has played host to some of the best races and faces in the Motorsport industry. Before officially becoming a Motorsport facility the venue's land was used as a RAAF Air Base, anyway I digress... For just over a quarter of a century I have been very lucky to be a part of the Mallala Motorsport Park Media Crew having photographed and scribed for many publications which include Auto Action, Motor Racing Australia, Motorave, Motorsport News and in more recent times State Racing Magazine. I have also been extremely fortunate to also have worked for iconic promoter and all round nice guy Clem Smith (RIP) on various occasions over the last decade as a commentator working alongside Motorsport identities like Michael Agius, Mark Nancarrow and Matt Bubner to name a few hosting events like MallaNats, G1 Drift, SA Time Attack and just pre COVID the Street Machine Magazine SuperNats. Before I sign off I would like share some photos from the final time the iconic venue hosted the Shell Australian Touringcar Championship / V8 Supercars, round 6 over the 2224 of May 1998. My memories of the weekend was what Motorsport was all about and the venue was jam packed to the rafters with fans crammed into every vantage point. Sadly this would be the last time the popular series appeared for official points at the venue. Being South Aussie proud, on this occasion we had three local competitors take to the track in the V8 Supercars events. #8 Russell Ingall, #38 Mark Poole and #39 Chris Smerdon all piloting Holden VS Commodores. Ingall proved to be a popular hometown hero, taking the victory for the weekend aboard his Castrol / Perkins entry. On a personal level I sponsored my good mate and proud Novacastrian #45 Wayne Russell as his team stayed at my Salisbury North home, I did the team photos and a feature story for Motorave Magazine. My housemate at the time Anthony Lifshack pit crewed and we used his ute as the pit transporter to take race equipment from the garage to pit lane..... Great times and memories made. Once again I would like to wish a very Happy Birthday to Mallala Motorsport Park. Clem, sadly we all miss you but I am sure that you will be smiling as you look down at your venue knowing that it is still rolling along nicely under the new management group. I am thankful for all of my time spent at the venue and having met many Motorsport greats and made many friends along the journey. Post COVID I hope to be invited back again to slide on a headset located on the second floor of the tower of power on the front straight and call a few events and or slip down to turn one with my trusty Canon camera and capture some more moments in history. Until then, God bless and take care, PC :)
