08.01.2022 Callitris gracilis- southern cypress pine , native pine, Murray pine The native pine is an attractive conifer growing prominently throughout the Murray region but occurring in much of the lower rainfall areas of SA. Callitris gracilis is usually found growing on sandy, rocky well drained soils, where it can sometimes form pure stands or be the dominant tree in low woodland. ... This drought resistant pine is a useful tree for windbreaks, shelter or shade. With its lush green foliage it should be considered more often as an ideal feature tree in medium/large gardens or parks. It is also an important food & shelter plant for many birds. Commonly used by early settlers for fence posts and building pug and pine cottages due to its durable, termite resistant timber. Tubestock available at both Belair & Murray Bridge Nurseries.
