24.01.2022 May the 4th holds a significant place in the hearts of many (and not just the Star Wars fans ). May the 4th is International Firefighters Day & Saint Florian's Day (Patron Saint of Firefighters). On this day we recognize the enormous strength, bravery, courage and sacrifice that each firefighter makes. When that alarm sounds and we respond, we don't know what is about to face us but we know we will do anything to help and some have paid the ultimate price. ... Today at Station 256, we’re incredibly proud of each and every one of our firefighters.. not just in our station but world wide, and those that serve in all brigades wether it be paid or volunteer. We are all a family and we acknowledge the hard work we all do as a team. Today we particularly honour the men and women belonging to the spare hooks on the shelf, the empty locker and the broken hearts of many that they left behind. We thank you. We miss you. We will always remember you. If you see a firefighter today, or know one you’d like to thank, give them a shout out. Happy International Firefighters Day to all, & may St Florian always watch over you all each and every time that alarm sounds. #PreparedForAnything #Fire #Rescue #InternationalFirefightersDay #StFlorian Fire and Rescue NSW

22.01.2022 Our firefighters from across Region West have banded together to raise money to support the Jordan family by selling beanies in the lead up to the colder months.... Bridie is the daughter of Damien Jordan, Deputy Captain at 300 Gilgandra station. Bridie suffers from Mainzer Saldino Syndrome, a rare genetic syndrome only diagnosed in around 20 others internationally. It effects bone growth and organs in the body. As a result of this, Bridie's kidneys are failing, and she's currently undergoing extensive treatment in Sydney, hundreds of kilometres from home. This fundraiser has been set up by firefighters in Region West Area Command, and is designed to help support the family, who have been forced to live away from home during Bridie's treatment. In 2018, Damien Jordan was the second highest individual fundraiser in the Firies Climb for Motor Neurone Disease. It's time for us to support Damien and his family during their time of need. To purchase your beanie, simply visit our website at https://beaniesforbridie.com.au/

16.01.2022 October means the Bush Fire Danger Period for the Cobar Shire Council area will commence for the 2020/21 season. During the Bush Fire Danger Period, landholders wishing to light a fire in the open will require a free fire permit from the NSW Rural Fire Service prior to lighting any fire. Fire permits help ensure that fire is used safely by setting out how a fire is lit and maintained, and lets firefighters know when you are conducting burning activities on your property durin...g this time of year when the risk of fire is heightened. Once a fire permit is obtained, landholders also need to provide at least 24 hours’ notice to all adjoining neighbours and the NSW Rural Fire Service. Locally, this can be provided: Online www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/notify Phone 02 68361226 Social Media Cobar Headquarters Rural Fire Brigade For more information, visit the NSW RFS website (www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/fire-information/BFDP) NSW Rural Fire Service Far West Team #frnsw #firerescue #PreparedForAnything #protectingtheirreplaceable #australia #newsouthwales #cobar #regionwest Cobar Shire Council

15.01.2022 As the temperatures drop and we get closer to winter we see an increase in residential house fire and house fire related deaths. Today our Fire Investigation an...d Research team showed us just how easy it is for a fire to start in your home when a heater is left unattended. Remember always to keep furniture and blankets at least one meter from the heater, and not to overload powerboard as we head into the winter months. For information on how to prepare your home for winter visit www.fire.nsw.gov.au/winter #PreparedForAnything #FRNSW #ProtectTheIrreplaceable

Thank you for all you do for everyone around you! #MothersDay #ThankYou #BossMums #WeWouldBeLostWithoutYouAll Fire and Rescue NSW

14.01.2022 Today marks the one year anniversary of the passing of two brave firefighters in the horrific fire season of 2019/20. Today we remember Firefighter Geoffrey Keaton (32 years old) who was the Deputy Captain of the Horsley Park Rural Fire Brigade and a former member of the Plumpton Brigade. Today we also remember Firefighter Andrew O’Dwyer (36 years old) who joined the Service in 2003, and was also a member of the Horsley Park Brigade. ... Our thoughts are with the firefighter’s family, friends and fellow brigade members, today and always.

13.01.2022 Just a reminder about our opening hours over the festive period. Absolutely no calls will be taken outside of these hours

13.01.2022 BBQ SAFETY | Hosting a BBQ for Father's Day? Avoid a mis-steak and always keep looking while cooking. There should always be an adult in charge of a BBQ (and a dad in charge of the jokes - we don't make the rules) #PreparedForAnything #ProtectTheIrreplaceable

05.01.2022 What if I told you that we played with LEGO to help save lives? Effective communication is vital to the safe, efficient and effective management of any incident. In this weeks training, we refined our radio communication skill by trying to put together some Duplo Lego via radio. In pairs one firefighter has the instructions and the other, whilst wearing a SCBA mask, has the bricks and together must communicate effectively to achieve a goal. Practice makes perfect. #preparedforanything #frnsw #cobar #duplo #lego #NotSureWhatSomeOfUsMade

05.01.2022 Its HOT outside Did you know that heatwaves kill far more people than natural disasters like bushfires, cyclones and floods? Adequate preparation is essential, especially for people at high risk: the elderly, babies, young children, people with health and mobility problems Please be extra cautious this weekend and - remain hydrated - keep extra water out for pets ... - pack extra water bottles for kids school bags - be mindful of excessive physical activity particularly for the elderly - stay sun smart (slip, slop, slap) - always follow fire rating advice Windy conditions are also expected for Saturday so be on the lookout for fires and check local weather and emergency alerts. 02.01.2022 Have you ever wanted to see exactly what it's like to fight a fire first hand? Well, thanks to Fire and Rescue NSW Station 83 Riverstone you can. Riverstone Fir...e Station were called to a kitchen fire on Wednesday, 9 September after a pot of oil caught alight. The kitchen was extensively damaged, however the owner's of the home escaped with only minor injuries. Check out the below video to see a kitchen fire through the eyes of a firefighter. Kitchen fires are the leading cause of house fires in NSW and a hot oil fire can engulf a room in a matter of minutes. Never attempt to put out an oil fire using water. Use a fire blanket only if it is safe to do so. Act quickly. Get out. Stay Out. Call Triple Zero (000) and wait for firefighters to attend. You can prevent a kitchen fire from happening by never leaving cooking unattended. #PreparedForAnything #MoreThanFire
