17.01.2022 On Sunday March 22nd 2020, we had great challenging wind for the small group of participants. Andrew Pearce took line honours for both pennant races. Thank you Roger for doing the course in difficult and shifting conditions. He had a couple of helpers in the rescue boat as well - Aya and Nikki :)

12.01.2022 We completed the Lake Fyans Centennial Shield with the #BallaratYachtClub last Sunday for the last two races of a 4 race series. Finally, the SYC with help from the #HorshamYachtClub (thanks Anthony Schellens), took out the points. Its only taken us 4 years... A big thank you to Roger Spratt who performed race officer duties and was ably assisted by Chris Fitzgerald and Phil Chaplin on the start boat. Well done to all participants. Overall results explains it all.

11.01.2022 Sailing Thursday night at Lake Fyans. Nice steady breeze from the south was enjoyed by all. Hopefully we can fit another one in early 2021 :) #Sailing #Yachting #WaterSports Australian Sailing - Victoria

09.01.2022 The club's AGM was held last Sunday the 18th of October. Basically the same office bearers were nominated and all have accepted there respective positions. This follows a trend over the last few years where most committee members do a two year stint in there positions. A great way to maintain stability at our sailing club. Mark Knights was re-elected as commodore. Peter Knight as treasurer, Ross Bennett as Vice. George Grellet was also re-confirmed as racing OC. Tony Hillier ...as secretary. Winners for the Pennant Series for the shortened season were Ross Bennett in first position, Andrew Pearce in 2nd and Jan Ibs von Seht in 3rd. Congratulations to all. Some of us even got out for a sail in gentle conditions. We'll be keeping members up to date on sailing conditions and who will be sailing each Sunday on the SYC sailors WhatsApp. If you don't have this on your smartphone already and would like to be involved, can we suggest you make contact with Steve Marcroft to guide you through loading the app and becoming part of the group.

07.01.2022 Sailing in light conditions on Saturday the 14th of November rather than being blown off the lake in a strong northerly forecast for the Sunday. Enjoyable sail in gentle conditions. No rescue boat required and no damaged gear. Win win. Special thanks goes to Johno Knight and Stawell Glazing for getting onto repairing some windows that were vandalized at the club a couple of weeks ago so quickly. We are hoping the broken glass was just an isolated incident but if club members are driving past, it might be a good idea to do a quick walk around the clubhouse :)

06.01.2022 Hello everyone. We have a updated the #racing calendar up on the #SYC website. Check it out! :) http://www.stawellyachtclub.org.au/calendar.html #Sailing #Sports Sail Melbourne Yachting Victoria

05.01.2022 Due to the severity and aggressiveness of the #Coronavirus COVID-19, and new advice regarding public gatherings by the Australian Government which directly impact on sporting clubs like ourselves, it has been decided to immediately suspend any further competitive #sailing at #LakeFyans. The termination of the 2019-2020 sailing season is regrettable but we believe in the best interest of public #safety according to the current advice at hand. Therefore, there will be no offici...al SYC sailing or events in the immediate future. It is still to be determined if enough Pennant races have been sailed to establish a winner for the season or if it should be abandoned. An announcement will be made shortly. It is hoped that the club will still be able to have its end of year awards dinner and AGM in August, but this will be totally dependent on the public health situation and rules about public gatherings. 03.01.2022 Pennant racing on Sunday, December 15th 2019. Small fleet that had some close #racing in good wind. Lake Fyans at its best :) Sail Melbourne Yachting Victoria #Yachting #Sailing

03.01.2022 Sailing on Lake Fyans on the 22nd of November 2020. The clubs 3rd pennant race was sailed last Sunday in light conditions. With a reduced fleet, we were all going to get onto the podium. So we thought. We got the worst start out of the three of us, having no watch and being too far away from the start line and in irons when the start horn was sounded. Ross got away first with Steve in a borrowed impulse, Jan's boat Equalibrium, a couple of boat lengths back. Ross managed to p...ull away in the light air's towards the top mark while Steve learnt sail trimming on a new boat. Tony managed to claw back the bad start and clipped Steve as they rounded the top mark. Ross was well out in front on a broad reach but with the fickle wind, lost much of his lead as Steve gained experience with the borrowed boat. After 8 legs of low to lower wind, Ross finished the race 3 minutes in front of Steve with Tony another 20 seconds behind that. Line honours going to Ross with Steve in second place and Phil Chaplin taking 3rd for being on the rescue boat. No podium finish for the yellow boat. A second race for fun was held in similar conditions but with stormy clouds and the occasional lightning strike well to the south. As the race concluded, a wind change from the north west to the south and the increase in wind speed was enjoyed by all :)

01.01.2022 Sailing last Sunday at Lake Fyans (15/03/2020). A small group of SYC members headed out on a diminishing Lake Fyans. Still plenty of water but further to drag the boats. Great wind from the SSW averaging at 20km/h made for some exciting sailing. Pennant races next weekend. #Racing #Training #Sailing Sail Melbourne Yachting Victoria
