24.01.2022 Why is understanding so important? It's because when we come from a place of "knowing" we can react without thinking. This kind of knee jerk reaction doesn't take the time to listen and get the whole picture of what is going on for someone. This can result in us judging or labelling people because we put them in a box with the other stuff we "know" rather than being curious and learning about them and their situation. So when we take the time to listen with the intention of understanding, we learn something new, and our companion feels heard, seen, validated and important.

10.01.2022 The old me is gone. I cut all ties of the old me. That is not me. I want to bring forth the me, that wants to represent who I am as a woman, that though I may have had traumas in my life, I won't let that define who I am. I am going to be the better version of who I am, truly inspired to wear the invisible badges of strength, confidence, courage, compassion, empowerment and fearlessness. 08.01.2022 Mental Telehealth and Wellbeing Telehealth is an emerging reality in Australia. Our current situation with COVID 19 has shown how important it can be to have access to health services in the comfort of our own homes. Australia is a big country and services are not easily accessible to those living in rural and remote areas. Telehealth makes accessing mental health and wellbeing services easy.... Australia has alway been quick to pick up new technology and as a result 9 out of 10 Australian consumers own a smart phone. This makes people in the most remote areas only a phone call away from getting the support they need. In fact it is so convenient people no longer have to postpone other trips or commitments in order to keep therapy appointments. For people who are very busy with work, or have caring responsibilities, are not physically well or have no transport, online services open up opportunities

07.01.2022 The tests we face in life's journey are not to reveal our weaknesses but to help us discover our inner strengths. We can only know how strong we are when we strive and thrive beyond the challenges we face. Kemi Sogunle Image by Elias Sch. from Pixabay

06.01.2022 #Attn: Teachers & Principals Peer Support Australia runs several implementation workshops for training schools to deliver the Peer Support Program. Participat...ing students realise the significant outcomes of the program, including better connectedness, reduction in bullying behaviours, improved resilience and a greater sense of possibility. The Peer Support Program achieves this by helping students develop and sustain: positive relationships agency sense of self responsibility for self and others How to implement the Peer Support Program: 1 Schools register teacher representatives to attend a Peer Support Implementation Workshop where they will learn about the implementation, resources and benefits of the Peer Support Program. These attendees will be qualified as Peer Support Coordinators for their school. 2 Schools purchase membership, providing them access to the resource portal and consultancy services. This access will be activated once the membership invoice is paid. 3 Schools conduct two days of training with older students, where they learn skills to facilitate activities with younger students. 4 Under the supervision of teachers, these trained Peer Leaders facilitate sessions from a module with a group of 8-10 younger students. Module activities include skills and strategies for developing connectedness, resilience, sense of self, and sense of possibility. 5 Teachers offer students ongoing training and support throughout the group sessions and afterwards through the implementation of debriefs. Workshop Content: Understanding of a whole school approach to creating a positive school culture A best practice model for implementing the Peer Support Program Key underpinnings of the Peer Support Program Curriculum, policy, and other educational initiative links Supporting research on mental health of young people Action plan for implementation Opportunity to network and share ideas with other teachers The Workshop allows time for planning and discussion of your school’s specific implementation plans. Having a colleague from your school to work with during this process is particularly valuable, although not essential. If there is no workshop listed in your area, please contact us to discuss other training possibilities. Cost: $375 for first participant 20% discount for every subsequent participant at the same session *prices exclude gst Please note that online workshops commence at 9:30am and run for 2 hours. Training is completed after a tailored phone or zoom meeting with a Wellbeing Education Consultant. Cost: $300 per participant. More info: https://peersupport.edu.au/our-programs/implementation/

06.01.2022 The world is not going to begin to look normal until three things have happened. One, we figure out whether the distribution of this virus looks like an iceberg, which is one-seventh above the water, or a pyramid, where we see everything. If we're only seeing right now one-seventh of the actual disease because we're not testing enough, and we're just blind to it, then we're in a world of hurt. Two, we have a treatment that works, a vaccine or antiviral. And three, maybe most... important, we begin to see large numbers of peoplein particular nurses, home health care providers, doctors, policemen, firemen, and teachers who have had the diseaseare immune, and we have tested them to know that they are not infectious any longer. And we have a system that identifies them, either a concert wristband or a card with their photograph and some kind of a stamp on it. Then we can be comfortable sending our children back to school, because we know the teacher is not infectious. And instead of saying "No, you can't visit anybody in nursing home," we have a group of people who are certified that they work with elderly and vulnerable people, and nurses who can go back into the hospitals and dentists who can open your mouth and look in your mouth and not be giving you the virus. When those three things happen, that's when normalcy will return. https://www.wired.com//coronavirus-interview-larry-brill/

03.01.2022 Times are tough right now and the future is uncertain, so it is timely to remember that we can overcome much more than we think we can. We are strong and we do have the courage and determination to overcome.
