25.01.2022 Last week was National Science Week and this term our students are investigating materials and their properties. Students were mainly involved in a blind test to identify a substance using three senses: smell, touch and taste. Students in Year 6 investigated viscosity and they measured and compared the viscosities of various substances. ... Science Week Competition The draw for the Science prizes took place on Friday. Students in Year 1 and 2 had to design a musical instrument. The year 3 and 5 group had to design a self-propelled vehicle. The Year 4 students put together a video presentation on forces, which they presented to other classes. The Year 6 cohort entered a model showing their knowledge of circuits. Each child who participated went into a draw for the prizes. The lucky winners of the competition were Beau, Holly and Ashleigh. Well done to all the winners and thank you to all the participants. A big thank you to the P and F who donated these amazing longboards as prizes.

We will endeavour to reschedule Open Night to take place in Term 4, provided we are able to, and will advise families accordingly. Thank-you for your understanding.

19.01.2022 What a wonderful way for our kiddies to start their Friday with the Walk & Bike Safely to School Day!! We even had our very first walking school bus, with parents and students walking together from the Chelmsford IGA! It is events like this that will help us, as a Your Move School to reach our Platinum Target. Thank you so much for your participation today - the sound of students of crunching on their healthy apples was delightfully delicious!!



19.01.2022 Our School Disco is this Saturday! Session 1 Kindy to Yr 2 - 4pm to 5:30pm Session 2 Yr 3 to Yr 6 - 7pm to 8:30pm... Please remember that this year it’s drop and go due to COVID restrictions and no payments on the night. Please be mindful when parking for session 2 as there may still be parishioners in the hall, try where possible to park in the staff car parks. Glow sticks this year 2 for 50c or 5 for $1.

18.01.2022 Walk & Bike Safely to School Day is being held on Friday the 11th September and wed love to see as many of our students and families walking to school as possible. A free red or green apple will be given to every student riding or walking In past years, families who do not live close to the school park at the Stargate Shopping Centre and walk or cycle from there. Dont forget to greet others in the community with a beautiful Bernies smile and wave!

18.01.2022 A friendly reminder that all Scholastic Book Club orders are due on Friday 7th August. School Banking will also recommence this Wednesday - we will be using the same drop and go system that we used last term.

17.01.2022 We love promoting healthy, active lifestyles at St Bs so remember that tomorrow is Fume Free Friday!! Our Sports Ministry will be hand in their high viz at the front of the school to keep everyone safe and to hand out raffle tickets. Wed love to see as many students as possible walking, riding or scootering to school!

14.01.2022 Wow, what a great bunch of athletes our St Bernies kids are! Manning Park was alive with energy and spark for the Interschool Cross Country carnival on Wednesday. We took home the small schools shield and couldnt be more excited! Congratulations to all the schools who participated today, our teachers (especially Mrs Cairns, Mrs Bowe) for the extra training sessions and our amazing runners!!! We also thank the awesome parents who came to cheer on the pumping sideline! What a glorious day for Bernies

14.01.2022 Indonesias Independence DayHari Merdeka Indo Lingo!!! Here are some wonderful highlights of our language week celebrations for Hari Merdeka (Indonesias Independence Day). The Year 6 students researched, designed and hosted a sea of red and white events two lunchtimes this week for all students in PP-Year 5. It was awesome to take part and watch the students join in on traditional Indonesian games, such as tic tac toe, bola net (netball), bola basket (basketball), captur...e the flag, Kerupuk (cracker eating) sack racing, tug of war, Lego building of the Jakarta monument and Indonesian arts and crafts! There were so many smiles spotted all over the school. Many thanks to everyone for celebrating our magical Indonesian language and watching the fabulous Year 6s show off their great leadership skills! 09.01.2022 Year 5 & 6 students participated in the inter school League Tag Carnival yesterday. The B Division team made it to the Grand Final, coming second. Division A finished tied 5th. It was fantastic day overall despite the rain and our students showed great team spirit and sportsmanship throughout the day. Well done St Bernies!

The final points tally was extremely close: 1st Charity House 243 points 2nd Pius House 239 points 3rd McKillop House 229 points... 4th Lourdes House 193 points Well done to all the the participants, it was an awesome effort by all of you! 05.01.2022 Cudiwil - Hello from South Sudan!!! Culture Club has started and is in full flight Over 50 students from years 1-6 are joining in on our cultural journey each Thursday lunchtime. So far, we have created our own passports and will be visiting a new country, hosted by one of our wonderful year 6 cultural ministry each week. Marna taught everyone how to say hi in South Sudanese (Cudiwil) this week as well as the moves of an amazing traditional African dance. We all tried it ou...t!!! It was then time to hunt for an African stamp and stick it in our passports while spending our time together learning all about Africa! Culture club will be heading to Japan on our next journey! 04.01.2022 On Monday 27th July we were thrilled to welcome Madeleine King, Member for Brand, to our school community. Madeleine spoke with our Year 5 and 6 students and presented us with copies of the National Apology for our classrooms and a new Aboriginal Flag as part of our NAIDOC Week celebrations and learning. She also graciously gave of her time to answer questions from our students about parliament. A huge thank-you to Mrs Jody Frecklington and Mrs Ethel Murphy for their organisation of this event.

03.01.2022 Mental Maths Morning Tea: Friday August 14 Parent/carers of all age groups are invited to a Mental Maths Morning Tea after assembly on Friday August 14th. Bring a pack of cards (or we can supply one). Cards can be used to play simple games which can assist your child/ren learn and practise their recall of tables and simple addition and subtraction in an easy fun way. We will look at how the activities can be adapted for different age groups and for individuals or for more than one child in the family. These fun learning activities will be helped along with the sharing of morning tea.

03.01.2022 On Friday July 3 our staff finished Term Three with a Professional Development Day which focused on the Scriptures, the Eucharist and the Fruit of the Spirit. The day was generously gifted to the school from our presenter John Coleman. It was wonderful to have Father Francis with us for the day and to celebrate the Mass with the staff. At morning tea Sharna, our P&F Vice President, gave a Vote of Thanks and the morning tea to the staff on behalf of the school community for a...ll that the staff did during Semester One and the COVID-19 period. Principal Maureen Barrett presented each staff member with a candle of thanks from her, the School Board and school community. Thanks to Sara Abbott for assisting in producing the special sticker of recognition for the candles. It was wonderful to be able to recognise and thank our generous and talented Leadership Team, teachers, education assistants, office staff, School Councillor, Library staff, gardener and auxiliary staff for all they have given, and continue to give, to our school community. 01.01.2022 Wonderful news, two St Bernadettes students were voted into the Rockingham Junior Council Leadership roles yesterday. Romeo was voted in as Junior Mayor, and Sophie Deputy Junior Mayor. This is the first time that two students from the same school were voted in, so it is very exciting. We are so proud of you both!

01.01.2022 We hope all our families and staff have had a relaxing and enjoyable holiday. A reminder that school begins for students on Tuesday July 21. Monday July 20 is a Pupil Free Day with the staff beginning the review of our School Vision. Thank you to the parents who gave feedback to the Form questionnaire at the end of last term. On Monday the staff will also participate in PD on Critical and Creative Problem Solving Techniques across all year levels.... We look forward to seeing students, staff and families on Tuesday.
