21.01.2022 Whose brother can I be? Pope Francis continues to challenge us to re-evaluate our place in this world as true brothers and sisters to all. This upcoming movie ‘Francesco’ comes at a time when Pope Francis exhorts us to read and embrace his latest encyclical, Fratelli Tutti, that he signed standing at the tomb of Saint Francis of Assisiin last week.. Fratelli Tutti addresses both fraternity and social friendship; together they are the central message of his text. The realism t...hat runs through the pages dissolves any romantic emptiness that always lurks about whenever we speak of fraternity. For Francis, fraternity is not just an emotion, a feeling or an idea no matter how noble but a fact that also implies an outcome, an action (and the freedom to act): Whose brother can I be? https://vimeo.com/465339526

20.01.2022 BUILDING CONFIDENCE AND JESUIT LEADERSHIP IN Railaco Mission We may be located remotely in the very small nation of Eaat Timor, but the students here at our secondary school in Railaco still receive an holistic Jesuit education. in addition to academic development, much effort is devoted to NOSSEF students receiving leadership training and character formation to better equip them to be true Catholic leaders for their country into the future. ... We form their leadership potential to become agents of transformation to the student body they are leading. Often, those in the student government body end up the best in their classes. And the majority of them are from our girls and boys dormitories. The newly elected student government of NOSSEF have recently participated in programs that started with a pilgrimage from Nasuta to Montserrat in Kasait on foot. They had prayer vigil on the first night. Then the whole day next was filled up with formation sessions and a short recollection to cap the formation. Fr Erik John Gerilla We at @St St Canice's KingsCross Sydney are very proud of the activities of this Jesuit Parish school Railaco Mission and so thankful of the generosity of St Canice parishioners who contributed to get the school off the ground and make progress over the years.

15.01.2022 St Canice's continues to celebrate Masses respecting social distancing and other Covid-19 safeguards.

15.01.2022 At the core of ‘Fratelli tutti’ is Francis’s conviction that the world is fast losing its sense of the oneness of the human family. With the disappearance of the common good, dialogue, and solidarity as animating social ideas, humanity is fast sliding into the darkness of civil strife, conflict, tribalism, and nationalism. In part this is the outgrowth of a lopsided modernity. Of the three great aims of the French Revolutionliberty, equality and fraternitythe Western world... has been obsessed with the first two, while ignoring or downgrading the third. Yet without fraternity, liberty descends into permissiveness and avarice, a license for the powerful to possess and exploit, while equality is reduced to a kind of abstraction, with endless squabbles over identity and a constant temptation to uniformity. Only a proper sense of the worth of every person and a recognition of his or her dignity provides an adequate basic principle of social life. Unless this basic principle is upheld, says Francis, there will be no future either for fraternity or for the survival of humanity (107). https://youtu.be/s8v-O_VH1xw
