24.01.2022 1M students were creating 'selfies' today but they were doing it the old fashioned way - with pencil and paper!

24.01.2022 This term at St Charles', Stage 3 students have participated in a school debating competition. Every student was allocated to a team and had several weeks to work with their team to prepare their arguments. The debates were held every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning and there was a broad range of topics. As the competition heated up over the term, the students ability to coherently argue their point of view also heated up. It was wonderful to see so many confident communicators thinking under pressure. The generosity of spirit between participants was a fine example of how we can embody our school values of peace, simplicity and courtesy. Congratulations, Stage 3.

23.01.2022 Some great online safety tips from Sydney Catholic Schools to keep in mind at this time.

23.01.2022 After reading the Book Week shortlisted book "Hello Lighthouse", Year 4 students used the principles of repetition and pattern to create a beautiful ocean scene bookended by lighthouses. A lot of patience and persistence (and some teamwork!) was needed to create these beautiful artworks.

21.01.2022 Year 1 students have been working hard for weeks and weeks on these mixed media owls. Aren't they amazing? They got the 'thumbs up' from the children.

21.01.2022 Year 5B have been exploring the element of form by making their own 'Magical Tree Menageries'. There are now some very 'Curious Creatures' hanging around the art room!

19.01.2022 Kindergarten students have been exploring clay techniques and started making pinch pots this week. Their little fingers certainly had a good workout!

19.01.2022 It is always a surprise when you 'pull' prints! Will it be blurry, faded or just right? Year 4 students looked at the work of Australian artist Maggie Stein, created their own printing plates and are now pulling prints to use in their artworks. It was a lot of fun...... and a lot of mess!

18.01.2022 Hi St Charles' Primary School Waverley Thank you so much for being part of Day for Daniel! You were 1 of over 4,800 schools and early learning centres who educated children about their personal safety on October 30.... With your support, we continue to build a future where children are free from harm and abuse.

18.01.2022 In STEM Stage 3 students have been looking at the The Power of Origami and how this traditional Japanese Art is being used by Scientists and Architects to develop new technology, as well as creating interesting structures that are aesthetically pleasing. Students were given the task of creating a prototype of a specific structure, following a set of design requirements.

17.01.2022 During Week 5, Year 3 Maroon investigated two-dimensional space during Mathematics. We began the week by looking at indigenous artwork and discovered that some artists use symmetry in their designs. This means that when you draw an imaginary line through it, one side looks like a mirror of the other! The students then found lines of symmetry on two-dimensional shapes and had fun using mirrors to find reflective symmetry. The unit also drew students attention to the names and features of shapes, in particular regular and irregular polygons. To conclude the week, students explored a Maths app called Pattern Shapes where they were asked to further show their understanding of regular and irregular shapes.

17.01.2022 This term, Year 2 Maroon has been reading about explanations of how and why things work and are now writing their own explanation texts. Each week, during Readers Theatre, students delight in acting out stories and enjoy any opportunity to dress up, as they did for the Disco Fund Raiser. Rainy days are students delight and teachers plight - its when the class gets so stay inside and play. The tower construction photo is an example of the spontaneous team building that happens in free play.

16.01.2022 Year 4B have been busy this term and enjoying a range of hands-on activities that help with our learning. SCIENCE We have been learning about 'weathering and erosion'. We placed sugar cubes in a jar and shook them and shook them, watching as they were weathered by the action. We also acted out 'weathering and erosion'. That was fun!... HISTORY We have been researching information about the First Fleet. Did you know that: - there were 11 ships that made up the fleet, captained by Arthur Phillip? - Botany Bay proved unsuitable for settlement, so Sydney Cove (Sydney Harbour) became the best choice? - the British flag was raised at Sydney Cove on 26th January, 1788? - the Gadigal people were the original inhabitants of the lands around Sydney Cove? - our celebration of Australia Day on 26th January is referred to as 'Invasion Day' by many? SPORT Each Wednesday, we go out for a game. We have been playing a modified 3 -v- 3 per team version of netball. The ball has to be passed 3 times before an attempt at goal can be made. You get a point if your team attempts a goal, and 2 points if you score!

13.01.2022 Kindergarten students are excited to have finally finished their owls! All of the students have demonstrated incredible perseverance as they worked on this mixed media artwork. Look at all the work and skill involved in these: painting; adding implied texture with pastel; adding real texture by wrapping with wool; drawing and cutting eyes, beak and wings; choosing a colour palette/ pattern for the beads and pipe cleaner; threading and twisting. Phew! So much hard work! No wonder they are proud to see their owls 'flying' around the school.
