25.01.2022 Today we celebrate the feast of St Faustina. Born in 1905, Helena Kowalska (as she was then known) came from a very poor, religious family in the countryside of... Poland. She joined the convent at 20 years of age and lived the humble life of a religious, praying and working in the kitchen and garden. St Faustina's greatest legacy was her diary, in which she wrote her conversations with Jesus, who visited her and entrusted her with an incredible mission: Today I am sending you with My mercy to the people of the whole world (Diary, 1588) St Faustina's diary has since been translated into more than 30 languages and has become a source of hope and consolation for men and women across the world. As Pope John Paul II said at her canonisation: 'It was between the First and Second World Wars that Christ entrusted his message of mercy to her. Jesus told Sr Faustina: "Humanity will not find peace until it turns trustfully to divine mercy" (Diary, p. 132). It is not a new message but can be considered a gift of special enlightenment that helps us to relive the Gospel of Easter more intensely, to offer it as a ray of light to the men and women of our time.' Let us pray that through the intercession of St Faustina, the tender mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ may be poured out and heal our suffering world. And may each one of us say with confidence, 'Jesus, I trust in you!' St Faustina, pray for us!

On the completion of her earthly pilgrimage, she was taken up into heaven body and soul. May we too have th...e courage to say yes to the Lords will in our lives. And, assured of her gentle motherly concern, we entrust to our Holy Mother all those suffering during the pandemic at this time. 21.01.2022 + What makes someone volunteer to die in the place of a stranger? For St Maximilian Kolbe, whose feast we celebrate today, it was a natural conclusion of a remarkable life dedicated to selfless love. Maximilian Kolbe was a Franciscan friar, with a particular love for the Blessed Virgin Mary. During the war, he made his monastery a hiding place for 2,000 Jewish people. The monastery also housed a printing press, which produced anti-Nazi newspapers as well as radio broadcasts. ...His vocal opposition to Nazism led to his eventual arrest in 1941 and sentencing to Auschwitz. In the death camp, many survivors witnessed the saints adherence to his own often-repeated principle: Love without limits. Following an escape, Auschwitz Deputy-Commander Fritsch gathered the men and randomly picked from the crowd those who would suffer death by starvation. One prisoner, Francis Gajowniczek, pleaded for his life to be spared for the sake of his wife and children. Maximilian broke ranks and pushed his way to the front saying, I want to die in place of this prisoner. According to witnesses, Deputy-Commander Fritsch seemed taken aback and asked, Who are you?, to which Maximilian replied, A Catholic priest. Francis Gajowniczeks life was spared that day as Maximilian took his place. In the starvation cells, he led fellow prisoners in prayer and song. Nazi guards remarked that it sounded more like a church service than a death cell. Today, the cell where Maximilian died is a shrine. No one has greater love than this, to lay down ones life for ones friends. (John 15:13) Let us pray for the courage and faithfulness shown by St Maximilian Kolbe, whose life reflected a love without limits. Who knows what well face today or tomorrow? Who knows what well be called to do or say that might lead us far beyond our comfort zone or into unknown territory? With the words of Christ in our hearts and the modern day example of discipleship that St Max leaves us, perhaps we can meet whatever comes with the kind of courage and grace that comes only from the Lord. St Maximilian we ask for your intercession, so that our lives can be of service to someone today! God is indeed my saviour, I am confident and unafraid (Isaiah 12: 2)
21.01.2022 Today is World Homeless Day, an opportunity to highlight the needs of people struggling with housing. Homelessness affects people of all ages but is becoming a ...growing problem especially for older Australians. Non-profit Catholic aged and disability organisation VMCH provides affordable homes for around 400 people aged over 55 who are at risk of homelessness. And together with CatholicCare - Greater Melbourne, Geelong, Gippsland and other Catholic service organisations across Australia, VMCH is a supporter of the Everybody’s Home campaign which aims to see 500,000 new, low-cost rental homes built by 2026 to meet incredible demand. There is much work to be done, but let us remember Jesus' words as we serve our neighbours in need: ‘Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not take care of you?’ Then he will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’ : ‘Homeless Jesus’ sculpture by Timothy Schmalz
20.01.2022 + Friends! Today we celebrate the Solemnity of St Mary MacKillop, our very own Australian Saint! On this special feast day, we reflect on Marys incredible life and witness of selfless Christian love, service and leadership. May her wise words and example always echo in our hearts: "Whatever troubles may be before you, accept them bravely, remembering Whom you are trying to follow. Do not be afraid. Love one another, bear with one another, and let charity guide you all your life. God will reward you as only He can." St Mary of the Cross, please pray for us!! Pray for our country and may you continue to inspire our young people, giving them confidence, ideals and a hunger to know Christ and His love like you did

19.01.2022 + This week is Refugee Week. A unique opportunity to make time to learn about the experiences of people from refugee backgrounds and to celebrate the valuable contributions made by refugees to the world. The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary & Joseph were themselves refugees in a foreign land, when they escaped the violence and persecution of King Herod for the temporary safety of Egypt. The below image is known as the Icon of Christ the Refugee by Br. Robert Lentz, OFM entitled Christ of Maryknoll. May its invitation to see the face of Jesus in all refugees and asylum seekers move us all to be agents of compassion and justice. This week, lets take a moment or a few minutes to pause and pray with all those who flee their homes from violence, war and death. #refugee #prayer #asylumseekers #solidarity
18.01.2022 + Today is the feast day of St Therese of Lisieux, the little flower of the Child Jesus! One of the great masters of the spiritual life through her "Little Way". Doctor of the Church, example of simplicity humility and a child-like faith, totally surrendered to Jesus. Patron of missionaries, florists, pilots, sufferers of disease and severe illness... St Therese, pray for us! ... . . Do you realise that Jesus is there in the tabernacle expressly for you for you alone? He burns with the desire to come into your heart Miss no single opportunity of making some small sacrifice, here by a smiling look, there by a kindly word; always doing the smallest right and doing it all for love... Remember that nothing is small in the eyes of God. Do all that you do with love. For me, prayer is a surge of the heart; it is a simple look turned toward heaven, it is a cry of recognition and of love, embracing both trial and joy. Jesus, help me to simplify my life by learning what you want me to be and becoming that person.

17.01.2022 SAFEGUARDING CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE + Dear friends, recently our Parish of St Clement of Rome endorsed and adopted the Safeguarding Children and Young People Policy developed by the Archdiocese of Melbourne. Essentially, this means that we hold the care, safety and well-being of our children of utmost importance and commit to a zero tolerance for all forms of child abuse, maltreatment or harm. The Safeguarding Committee encourages all parishioners to view the Policy togeth...er with the Parish Statement of Commitment and the Safeguarding Children and Young People Code of Conduct. These documents have been uploaded and can be accessed on our Parish website https://www.stclementsparishbulleen.org.au/professional-sta Volunteers will also be receiving a personalised email requesting them to sign the Code of Conduct Declaration form after they have provided the Parish Office with a Working With Childrens Check (WWCC). PLEASE NOTE: We still have volunteers who have not provided the Parish with their WWCC. It is vitally important that we receive this. Please notify the Parish Office, via email, if you do not intend to continue as a volunteer so we can update our records. Thank you & God bless.
16.01.2022 + The Solemnity of All Souls! . . All Souls’ Day is a holy day set aside for honouring and praying for the dead. The day is primarily celebrated in the Catholic Church, but it is also celebrated in the Eastern Orthodox Church and a few other denominations of Christianity. The Anglican church is the largest protestant church to celebrate the holy day. Most protestant denominations do not recognise the holiday and disagree with the theology behind it....Continue reading

15.01.2022 On this World Mental Health Day, we are reminded of each person’s human dignity and their right to live life to the full. "Mental health is not simply the absen...ce of illnesses, but having the capacity and opportunity to thrive that is, to participate in the fullness of life to which Jesus invites us (John 10:10)." (Australian Catholic Bishops' 2020 Social Justice Statement, "To Live Life to the Full: Mental health in Australia today) Mental ill-health is nothing new and yet, sadly, many who experience it still encounter stigma and discrimination, or go unnoticed and fall through the gaps of community care. As Pope Francis reminds us, we must take the initiative to go out and seek those at riskthose on the margins and whose voice would otherwise go unheard. In our local communities, this could mean learning more about mental health, linking in with mental health networks, advocating for the rights of individuals and their families and encouraging peer-to-peer support. Let us always be attentive to the needs of others, especially those who suffer, and listen closely to their lived experience. For it is in their suffering that we hear the cry of Jesus and encounter his merciful love.
15.01.2022 + Remembrance Day Today, we remember the sacrifice of so many men and women who gave their lives against injustice, in defence of the freedoms we are so blessed to have today. At 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918, the sounds of the guns on the Western Front fell silent after more than four years of continuous warfare. The allies had driven the German invaders back, and the Germans called for an armistice (suspension of fighting) in order to secure a peace settle...ment and bring an end to the First World War. Lord, help us to remember today and every day to be at peace with ourselves, with each other (despite our differences) and with the beautiful creation you left us to enjoy and to steward responsibly. May that mean an end to all wars and violence, to all attacks on the dignity of human life, the victims of which we remember, pray for and honour today. Lord, ultimately, help us to know You - Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and to always remember Jesus’ words: As often as you did it for the least of your brothers and sisters, you did it to me... Lest we forget.
14.01.2022 Today we celebrate the feast day of St Frances Xavier Cabrini, patron saint of immigrants. Mother Cabrini, as she was affectionately known, was a remarkable wom...an, combining a keen intelligence, business acumen, and organisational ability with an indomitable spirit and deep faith, true to her motto, ‘I can do all things in Him who strengthens me’ (Phil 4:13). As a child growing up in Italy, she dreamed of being a missionary, prompted by her deep devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and by the great Jesuit missionary, St Francis Xavier, from whom she took her religious name. In 1889, she went to New York to serve thousands of Italian migrants who were living in ghettoes, enduring hardships, and in great need of care. A teacher by training, her ministry soon extended from schools to catechism classes, orphanages, social support and hospitals. When the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (the Order she founded) arrived in Melbourne back in 1948, they managed a small community hospital in Malvern, looking after Italian immigrants arriving after the Second World War. Today their outreach extends to refugees and asylum seekers, continuing the legacy of Mother Cabrini who said, ‘Now is the time for love not to be hidden but to become active, vibrant and true.’ St Frances Xavier Cabrini, patron saint of immigrants, pray for us! 12.01.2022 + Happy Fathers Day to our amazing fathers! A prayer for our Fathers. God our heavenly Father, we give you thanks and praise for all the fathers in our lives- young and old.... We pray for young fathers, newly embracing their vocation; may they find courage and perseverance to balance work, family and faith in joy and sacrifice. We pray for our own fathers and those around the world whose children are lost or suffering; may they know that the God of compassion walks with them in their sorrow. We pray for our priests, our spiritual fathers, that God may continue to direct and inspire them, as they help bring us Christs truth, mercy and love through the sacraments. We pray for men who are not fathers but who still mentor and guide us with fatherly love and advice. We remember the fathers, grandfathers, and great grandfathers who are no longer with us but who live forever in our memory and nourish us with their love. Amen See more

11.01.2022 + Happy feast day of St Francis of Assisi! Lover of Christ in the Eucharist, in the poor and the abandoned. Lover of God’s beautiful creation, the animals and the environment. Passionate evangeliser of God’s love through simplicity and humility. Model of peaceful and respectful inter-faith dialogue. Stigmatist, poet and champion of the faith... pray for us!! A prayer inspired by St Francis ... Lord, make me an instrument of your peace Where there is hatred, let me sow love Where there is injury, pardon Where there is doubt, faith Where there is despair, hope Where there is darkness, light And where there is sadness, joy O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console To be understood, as to understand To be loved, as to love For it is in giving that we receive It is in pardoning that we are pardoned And it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life. 05.01.2022 People of faith have co-operated with COVID restrictions, implementing COVID-safe plans and proving ourselves fair-minded and civil, patient and prepared. But w...hy would pool water shared by 30 swimmers at a time be considered any safer than baptism water poured over one infant child? Parity means consistency. Make your voice heard to ensure people of faith are not overlooked in the easing of restrictions. Here's what you can do: Call your local state Member of Parliament to voice your concern. Find out who your local MP is here: www.parliament.vic.gov.au/about/electorates Follow up with a short letter to your local Member of Parliament. bit.ly/ParityForAll Spread the word! Encourage your friends, family and parishioners to do the same. 02.01.2022 + Today friends, October 2, is the Memorial of the Holy Guardian Angels! In the Gospels, Jesus indicates that there are guardian angels for us. He says: See that you do not despise one of these little ones; for I tell you that in heaven their angels always behold the face of my Father who is in heaven... (Matt. 18:10).... Pope Benedict on this memorial some years ago said: Dear friends, the Lord is ever close and active in humanity’s history and accompanies us with the unique presence of his Angels, whom today the Church venerates as ‘Guardian Angels’, that is, ministers of the divine care for every human being. From the beginning until the hour of death, human life is surrounded by their constant protection - Pope Benedict XVI Angel of God my guardian dear, to whom God's love commits me here. Ever this day be at my side, to light and guard, to rule and guide, Amen.
