24.01.2022 Our Year Three students were lucky to have a visit from author and illustrator Michael Speechley, who read them his latest book, "The All New MUST HAVE Orange 430". Michael also spoke with the children about the writing process, the importance of saving our planet, and why we should save money for important things rather than spending it on unimportant things. Michael was amazing and the children loved it!

24.01.2022 We have begun NAIDOC Week at St Columba's with an inaugural flag raising ceremony. We were privileged to have respected Noongar Elder, Dr Roma Winmar Yibiyung, perform a very beautiful Welcome to Country and Mrs Candy McKay, our Transforming Lives Engagement Officer, speak about this year's theme 'Always Was, Always Will Be'. 'Always Was, Always Will Be' recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. They are spirituall...y and culturally connected to this country. NAIDOC 2020 invites all Australians to embrace the true history of this country a history which dates back thousands of generations. Thank you to the Yr 6 students, particularly our student leaders, for assisting with the ceremony.

22.01.2022 The Year 5 and 6 students were very excited to open computers, pull them apart and put them back together again in Digital Technologies today. A huge thank you to Greg McKeaig who facilitated the session and regaled us with his stories and experiences.

21.01.2022 Pre-Primary Green are learning about the countries of the world. They were very lucky to have a Teams video call with Dr Malcolm Vernon, whose granddaughter is in the class. Mal is the Macquarie Island Expeditionary Medical Officer and is an ex-student of St Columba’s. Mal answered a lot of interesting questions about Macquarie Island and Antartica that the Pre-Primary children had for him. They all enjoyed chatting with Mal and are now mini members of the Australian Antarctic Program!

21.01.2022 Lest we forget.

18.01.2022 Congratulations to our Year 6 students who received the sacrament of Confirmation this evening in a beautiful outdoor Mass.

18.01.2022 It's been a real page turner of a week with lots of activities, including an outdoor library for the children to enjoy. A big thank you to our parents and staff for making Monday's Book Week parade such an event.

16.01.2022 Good Morning All Hope you are all travelling okay. Please find an update for Term 2 operations here at St Columba’s School in Bayswater.... I have taken 4 photos of the document. Take care Art

15.01.2022 The OSHC children collect their scraps from afternoon tea each day and put them in our red scraps bucket and then we put them into our commercial composting bin. All of our cups and straws at the canteen are made out of bioplastics that we can add to the bin as well. This gets collected each week by Write Solutions and turned into community compost. We received some bags of the compost ready for the school holidays and used it to replant the OSHC garden. We now have a fruit t...ree the children have called Janine the Nectarine, and we are looking forward to being able to start the cycle again when we have nectarines off of our own tree that we can have for afternoon tea and those scraps can make new compost to feed the tree again! We are also collecting any children’s old gumboots to add to our collection of interesting planting containers. Jess (OSHC Supervisor)

14.01.2022 The Pre-Primary children have been teaching our Bee-Bots their favourite nursery rhymes over the last few weeks. This group worked as a team to program their Bee-Bot to travel from the beginning, to the middle, then to the end of Humpty Dumpty. Well done, Pre-Primaries!

14.01.2022 We are very privileged to have Aboriginal Artist Kamsani Bin Salleh create a unique artwork for our school, depicting our place on Whadjuk Noongar Country. This year's NAIDOC theme is 'Always was, always will be' and we have a visual representation of our place on Country. Kam was Western Australian Young Person of the Year in 2018 and has created art pieces which have been displayed at Yagan Square, in East Perth, in collaboration with the West Coast Eagles and at various s...chools throughout WA. Kam is creative director of Arts Company Kambarni where he seeks to share his heritage and educate people about Aboriginal culture through murals, paintings, sculptures, animations, and other art forms. As Kam completed the artwork in our undercover area, he shared the story and the significance with the students. Kam has also written and illustrated two children's books.

10.01.2022 The Year 5 classes went on an excursion to Fremantle yesterday. Their first stop was the Fremantle Prison, where the children stepped inside and explored the prison from its convict origins in the 1850s until its closure as a maximum security gaol in 1991. They were captivated by the story of Moondyne Joe, his escape-proof cell and his marvellous escape. The children then walked to Twin Fin where they enjoyed delicious fish and chips, then finished their day with a play in the park at the Esplanade.

07.01.2022 Good Morning Everyone Welcome Back to Term 2! I have posted a quick message, well, you know me, said I would keep to 3 minutes, but I got carried away and went for nearly 7. Opps! Anyhow, always a ‘one take’ video so embrace the imperfection of it.... No need to watch unless you want to, as I am sending out a notice on the website this morning as an update for the week. Look after yourself and enjoy the day. Art See more
