25.01.2022 Welcome back to Term 3! We have all had a busy week and are ready for the weekend and some well-earned rest. From cooking lessons, to learning all about the letter ‘U’, from Library lessons to lessons with Mrs Federow, we have certainly settled back into our school routine! A fabulous start to the term St Doms!
25.01.2022 This week, our St Doms community farewelled two amazing members who will be sorely missed- our Valencia teacher and REC Mrs Anderson, and our Principal Mrs McLoughlin. Both these leaders embody the Four Pillars of the Dominican charism- Community, Ministry, Study and Prayer- and will forever have a place in the heart of our community here at St Doms.
23.01.2022 Valencia was hard at work, improving their addition and subtraction skills in maths today. They ended the day with Art session completing Cherry Blossom Trees. Excellent work Valencia!
23.01.2022 Valencia have been looking at the qualities of being a friend with Mrs Federow. Today we practiced our listening skills by being directed by verbal instructions to follow a path & to pick up a toy! A great trust exercise too!! Just fabulous work Valencia!
22.01.2022 Valencia had a very interesting Science lesson today. Students have been learning about how the state of an object changes when it is melted, that is, when a solid becomes a liquid. Students placed chocolate, lolly snakes and plastic forks in the oven and recorded what they looked like before and after they were heated, followed by animated class discussion as to how this change occurs! Valencia found it fascinating... but were definitely more interested in the melted chocolate!!
21.01.2022 Valencia students spent some time yesterday creating their own Aboriginal Artworks. The results were amazing! They even created their own ‘paint man’! Great work Valencia!
19.01.2022 Today Castilian had a fun lesson with Mrs Federow! All the students created Mr Potato bodies as our class book of the week is Potato People. Then in Religion students practiced cutting skills by cutting out a love heart. They then talked about all the people and things in their lives that they love. Great work Castilian!
18.01.2022 Siena had a very eventful start to Term 3! Learning about the letter ‘y’ saw students giving amazing examples of words starting with that letter, such as yoghurt, yacht and yellow... great work! They even had a treasure hunt to find letters of the alphabet; this then became a Maths lesson as students counted the number of letters they found. Siena love a competition! Finally they had a cooking class. Using a choice board giving them the options of vegemite, honey, jam or butter, students were amazing little chefs making their own sandwiches. They even enjoyed cleaning up!! Great work Siena!
18.01.2022 Secondary students have been working hard across all learning areas. In Science they conducted an experiment using the pH of common materials found around the home, using boiled cabbage liquid as the indicator . In this way they were able to gauge where each substance lies on the pH scale. During LOTE they had fun making their own Kendama (cup and ball ) traditional Japanese children’s game, Maths was all about money and in PE they enjoyed practicing their ball skills with g...ames of both volleyball and bocce. There is never a dull moment in our secondary class!
18.01.2022 Week 9 was so productive for Guzman! In maths, students were investigating ways of measuring, using formal and informal methods. Students measured their height and the length of things, using a ruler, tape measure, height chart, their hand shape and foot length. Ending the week we baked, and students were very excited noting the height of their scones before and after baking in the TAS room oven. Well done Guzman- those scones look delicious!!
17.01.2022 St Dominic’s is open for 2021 enrolments.....check us out! Feel free to share with friends.
17.01.2022 This term secondary students have been learning about the Crusades in Religion. We have discovered the importance of knights and castles. Through an inquiry bas...ed format, students formed two groups to design, create and evaluate their castle. The castle’s were named Gabriel and Gerathy, keeping a connection to our Dominican class names. See more
16.01.2022 Our secondary students have been very busy in TAS ... as this video shows! Making coasters is quite a process, from sanding then painting the undercoat, to creating each individual pattern and even more painting, students were totally engaged in creating these gifts. They were so proud of the end result! Brilliant and creative work by our secondary students!
16.01.2022 Students totally embraced the theme of ‘Curious Creatures, Wild Minds’ for this year’s Book Week! Our day started with a delicious breakfast, followed by our parade then activities in classrooms and in Library lessons. Another great day at St Doms!

14.01.2022 On Wednesday the St Doms community came together to acknowledge Remembrance Day. Students dressed our Sacred Space and observed a minutes silence during our Liturgy.
14.01.2022 Castilian have been working really hard learning all about the letter ‘b’. Students have been practicing their handwriting skills as well as sounds, and have come up with some amazing ‘b’ words, like box, bee and bat, which they then verbally use in short sentences! They are enjoying group work and are really progressing with independent work at their workstations. Awesome work Castilian!!
13.01.2022 Valencia have jumped right in to Term 4! Students enjoyed creating their own circuit in the Movement Room, and showed their competitive spirit by trying to beat each other’s times, not to mention showing great turn-taking skills! This term Valencia students have the responsibility of raising the flags each morning, an activity they undertake with pride. Welcome to Term 4, Valencia!
12.01.2022 This afternoon our St Doms community came together to not only acknowledge the Feast Day of our patron saint, but to celebrate and thank our principal, Mrs McLoughlin, with a blessing. We wish her well; she will be missed, and will always be in the heart of our community.
11.01.2022 Last science lesson, Valencia looked at the state of objects when melted, so this lesson students experimented with what happens when objects are put in the freezer. Students placed water, honey, lolly snakes, chocolate, water and rubbing alcohol in zip lock bags and then put these in the freezer. We then discussed what we thought might happen, before we got to see what actually happened! The most fascinating was the rubbing alcohol, which stayed exactly the same (just a li...ttle colder). Great investigation Valencia!
11.01.2022 As we approach the end of Term 3, Guzman class would like to share with you photos of their investigations of chance, 2D shapes, 3D shapes, counting, place value, addition and subtraction. As you can see, Guzman are always engaged in their learning! Great work Guzman!
09.01.2022 Castilian have been mastering addition and subtraction, and are absolutely enjoying this new challenge. The letter ‘v’ has also been their feature letter, and students have been having fun thinking of ‘v’ words! Castilian have also been hard at work creating their secret Father’s Day gifts... no peeking! Brilliant work Castilian!
08.01.2022 It looks like Siena has a challenger for the title of St Doms Mini Masterchef! Today Guzman combined their work in shapes and sequencing to make Ham, Cheese and Tomato toasties! Students discovered all the different shapes in the food as they were preparing, and enjoyed eating their Maths lesson as well! Students learned all about safety and hygiene in the kitchen, and, like all good chefs, used teamwork and cooperation to clean up the kitchen.... Great work Guzman....we all hope to sample your cooking next time!
08.01.2022 Lunch and recess time is always fun time at St Doms. Students participate in active, imaginative structured play with the guidance of our play facilitators, and, thanks to the successful Sports Grant application, there are many more fun and engaging activities now on offer! Balancing, shops, colouring and dress ups are always a huge hit, along with table tennis and soccer... and imaginations run wild with the car and train tracks! St Doms students... fun and learning in play!
07.01.2022 Secondary students finished their recycled photo frames today. They added abstract patterns using tape and a variety of fun colours. Students also created and inserted pictures of things that are special to them. Great work Secondary they look fantastic!
07.01.2022 Our secondary students completed a very interesting Science experiment today- how to stop fruit from going brown. Students placed apple slices in separate bowls; one slice in bowl with nothing added, one slice in a bowl with water and one slice in a bowl with lemon juice. The result? Lemon juice preserved the apple slice with no change in colour to the fruit!! PE in the afternoon saw some energetic Table Tennis and Table Soccer... a great way to end Week 2!
07.01.2022 Valencia enjoyed their Sensory Regulation lesson today with Miss Evans. Students discussed our school focus of Safe Hands and Safe Feet. We then enjoyed a fun game of Fish before the hard work of Maths began. There was certainly great number recognition and turn taking in action! And of course we can’t forget fun during break time on the playground! Valencia students are always happy to join in the games!

06.01.2022 Siena students are really taking their cooking skills to the next level! Last week they created amazing pizzas, and this week their banana bread was so delicious! Students are utilising so many skills to create these culinary delights- sequencing, measurement, mixtures and chemical reactions to name a few. They have been so proud of themselves... and we hope there are many families tonight enjoying some banana bread! They now know cleaning up is a huge part of cooking, and t...hey get that done with no fuss, working as a team to make the job quicker. What is cooking next week Siena? We can’t wait!

01.01.2022 Creative Art classes have been such fun this term! Valencia students have such fabulous imaginations, and today they were presented with different materials to make their own boats. Their creativity was amazing! HSIE and Religion were all about how information was passed on before the written word. A quick few rounds of Chinese Whispers showed the students how quickly a story can change! Awesome work Valencia!
01.01.2022 Castilian had fun in Creative Arts today, colouring and decorating beautiful shells. I think there’s a few Archibald entries there! Then off to Library, where students made three owls based on the book Mrs E and Leo the Librarian read to the class. Such a creative day Castilian!
