21.01.2022 It’s very spooky at home: over the last few days we’ve had smoke from fires some great distances away: today was hot and humid before the rain came and now we have this low-cloud, mist and smoke. Enjoying the drop in temperature.

19.01.2022 Singing in a choir is not only about communality, social cohesion and harmony; for many it is an essential source of emotional wellbeing and positive mental health. Moreover it is a powerful expression of our culture and humanity, and it cannot be allowed to fade away.

19.01.2022 Here's another article for family and friends in the UK ... locals here would have read it or heard the news on the wireless. I watched the early part of the pr...ess conference before heading out to the new deli in Bacchus Marsh ... no churches are open in Victoria .. so Sunday's have become a day for food shopping before hitting the desk, attending to correspondence and looking at the meeting agendas for the week ahead. It was a warm and sunny day so I took the opportunity to take some images of the Moorabool windfarm on the Ballan-Egerton road. I mainly show the Lal Lal windfarm on the Egerton-Yendon road which I pass every day on my way to Ballarat: today was an opportunity to stop and take a close-up look at the larger and denser of the two local facilities. Images to follow ....

17.01.2022 With so many local small businesses already at breaking point, this 'stay home' V. 'life-as-normal' argument is coming to the forefront. Yesterday the local vi...llage at Ballan was bustling. The monthly Farmer's Market - with fewer stalls than normal - was attracting a small crowd and parking in the main street was at a premium. Today the street was empty with bored shop owners closing early and going into the larger regional towns to stock up on larder essentials as the threat of a 'lock-down' is looking increasing more like a reality. How do you maintain a community spirit when the message is to isolate and with all gatherings of 500+ cancelled? With the increase in free SMS and messenger services like Facebook, What'sApp and the like, we have lost the art of the telephone call which allows for immediate two-way communication and the opportunity to 'hear' how our friend at the other end is feeling. You can hide behind an emoticon but not the sound of the human voice. There are a few old skills and attitudes we need to brush up on to help us get through these next few months. When was the last time you said, or heard someone say: " So nice to HEAR your voice"?

03.01.2022 ‘Less is More’ - especially when it comes to the finest ingredients A two-cheese toasted Turkish bread (Sonia selected a rare soft Blue and a hard Chedder for me) had all the flavours that this cosmopolitan corner of #ballaratfood is renowned for. Simple and elegant yet stimulating the senses of taste and smell, just like the accompanying wine and faultless service.
