24.01.2022 Lockdown Day 2! Great job SA, you are all doing an amazing job! Today we flashback to the 10th of May 1972, and we find ourselves in Bridgewater. The recently restored 520 has bought one of the ARHS (now known as SteamRanger) school holiday specials into the hills. ... 520 was built by the South Australian Railways in their Islington workshops and entered service on the 10th of November 1943. 520 has been preserved by SteamRanger, and restoration works are currently ongoing at our Mount Barker depot. 20.01.2022 Lockdown Day 1 We hope you all are keeping well in these extraordinary times! We have decided to bring back a few of our flashback posts over the next 6 days! ... Pictured is SAR locomotive 700 on a ARHS tour (now known as SteamRanger) on its last run to Victor Harbor, 2nd of June 1968. The locomotive can be seen crossing the Currency Creek viaduct. This is the tallest railway viaduct still operating in SA. Built in 1866, the viaduct stands 23 metres above the creek bed! When this train arrived at Victor Harbor, 700 was used to assist with re-railing of 718 that had derailed earlier in the day. Photo J Liebelt, G Liebelt Collection.

14.01.2022 There’s been lots of talk in the media around QR codes of late. Over the past few months, SteamRanger has implemented our own QR code based check in for guests travelling on our Cockle Train services between Goolwa, Middleton, Port Elliot and Victor Harbor. As the busy summer school holidays approach, in an effort to streamline ticket purchases, we are asking you, our valued guests, to assist us by making use of our QR code based check in. ... QR code posters (like the ones attached to this post) are placed all over our station buildings at Goolwa, Port Elliot and Victor Harbor stations. Please scan these codes with your smartphone, fill in your details, and show our ticket officers the confirmation page when you purchase your tickets. If you do not have a compatible smartphone, paper-based contact tracing forms will still be available, however the phone based check-in remains our preferred option. All of our data is secure, and is rolled over after 28 days. You may opt for SteamRanger to retain your details for marketing purposes, but we have no access to these details unless you opt in. Paper based contact tracing forms are securely destroyed after 28 days. Only SA Health & SAPOL have access to this data if requested. We thank you in advance for assisting us in checking in before you get to the ticket office window we ask you arrive well in advance of your preferred departure time, to ensure we can minimise delays to services.
