24.01.2022 Our 1915 heritage listed home has SOOOO much wood internally and it makes it look so dark! I won the battle/didn’t really tell Samm my full plans about how much wood would be painted in the reno! I’ve had a vision in my head for YEARS and I’ve known exactly what I’ve wanted and if I had my way and some spare cash- I would paint all the wood in the house but to make the husband happy, all bedrooms and the two side rooms upstairs get painted fully and all other rooms have the original wood left as is! It’s a good compromise I think! Super happy with our painters Watkins Morgan who have two female painters onsite doing a fab job. Loving our choice of lexicon half strength and domino by @duluxaus. Can’t wait to see it all come together over the coming weeks.

23.01.2022 Same room- no joke! We turned the dining room into an en-suite! We’ve been fortunate enough to own a few homes in our time together but we’ve never had the luxury of having our own en-suite! It’s amazing and I feel very lucky.

23.01.2022 It’s been a huge two weeks for us with moving house, school holidays and juggling work! We’re 90% done at Boa Vista but in short- it’s been very challenging! We’ve had our stuff go to 3 different places and let’s face it, we have WAAAY too much stuff. I’m a hoarder or furniture and homewares and @samm.harrington is a hoarder of go karts and gadgets! Ive o my showed you snippets of Beresford as my ocd wants to have things sorted before I give you a full tour! Time has been p...ulling us in all different directions with work and the kids and I’m off to the Gold Cost for 4 days this weekend to attend a tattooing conference so I will just get things done when I can(which is killing me as I want it organised ASAP) We’re loving loving at Beresford, it has such a lovely feel to it and living with mod cons is an absolute luxury. Although it’s 1/4 of the size of our other home and it’s taking some getting used to, especially with 4 pre teenage kids, I’m sure we will get used to our new way of living! Happy Monday guys, Alex x

22.01.2022 This funky way to dry our clothes was a late addition which meant added costs as the ceiling had to be reinforced from the roof but I’m glad we did it as it looks really cool. We have two washers, two dryers and no clothesline and we have always utilised an indoor hanging rail as with 4 kids- there is always LOTS of washing! Loving our new laundry although we made some small design errors but no one else would pick up on it if we didn’t tell them!

22.01.2022 It’s beginning to look a lot like move in day! 6 days to go! Everything crossed that all trades get their bit done so we can finally move after 5 date changes! It’s been bloody frustrating and hard to run a business or two around it but we’re nearly there and it’s looking AMAZING! @ New Town, Tasmania, Australia

22.01.2022 Changing these double French doors to one glass of pain took a bit of time to convince Samm! As per usual, he should just trust my judgment and say yes instead of arguing and resisting change! He loves it so much he now wants to do the same to the opposite window! We didn’t use this door that goes out onto the deck because we have another double door that we use off the sunken dining area! How good does it look? I need to find that before photo!!! ... #renovatingisfun #alwaystrustyourgut @ New Town, Tasmania, Australia See more

21.01.2022 Carpet, floorboards and tiles chosen for our Beresford houses. Big thanks to Bert @wyllietiles for always giving us a great deal and a laugh along the way! We’ve got some very experienced brickies doing their thing- they did our Claremont houses too. Can’t wait to see these go up out of the ground. #wyllietiles #crumparchitects #eddystoneconstruction #buildinghousesinhobart

20.01.2022 It’s been really important to us throughout both of our renovations at Beresford and Boa Vista to giveaway and sell(for bargain prices) as much as we could do that people could repurpose items rather than it all go to landfill. There are a fair few people out there who have a bit of our old home now happily in their home which makes us happy. A client and friend of mine came to collect the entire house full of blinds and curtains today. They live in a house similar to ours i...n Campania and don’t have the funds to renovate it yet and apparently the window furnishings they have are really bad so we happily gifted them ours. I don’t even want to calculate how much it costs us 8 years ago but well over $10k!!! We could of sold them but I couldn’t be bothered measuring all of those windows! Plus, paying it forward when you can is the best way to operate. There are so many tools now to advertise such as gumtree, marketplace, buy and sell pages to name a few. Try and reduce the amount that goes into landfill, you will be surprised the things that people will take. #upcyle #recycle #renovation

20.01.2022 Thankyou @innovate.build and crew for helping us bring the vision to life! Can we do it again soon? @samm.harrington

17.01.2022 I’ve had 4 of these chairs sitting in storage for about 10 years. I got given them from my step dad and they sat in his accounting firm for a few years before that. When sorting through the shipping container full of my beloved furniture the other day, I decided it was time to give these chairs some new life. I found some great fabric at spotlight that happened to be on sale for $10 a meter and my awesome upholsterer recovered them for $65 each! I would say that’s a bloody good up cycle!!! Don’t ask me where they’re going in Boa Vista, I’ve got no idea but I will find a spot for them that’s for sure! #upcycledfurniture #recycledfurniture #funkyfabric #oldintonew @ Moonah, Tasmania, Australia

17.01.2022 We love the simplicity of our powder room downstairs off the laundry. We have the luxury of 4 toilets which is two more than we used to have but my goodness we need them sometimes with a large family. #reeceplumbing #whitesubwaytiles #blackpennyroundtiles

15.01.2022 We have waited very patiently for this reno! Nearly 8 years to the day since we walked into our beautiful house and I thought, I don’t know how but we’re going to buy this. We had just purchased @toyworldhobart and things were tight! @samm.harrington was pretty annoyed with me for a few years as he didn’t want to move and buy it as much as I did! He has since apologised and thanks me for forcing him into buying our forever home. I spent years in this house as a child as I wa...s friends with the eldest daughter. They were like a second family to me as my Mum was studying full time uni and juggling 4 kids while being a single mum so we had to be very independent. Fast forward and our architect Nathan at @crumparchitects has been working on this for 6 years! It was put into council 5 years ago but we have always put it on the back burner as other projects had to be completed first. Our builder has waited very patiently for us. He runs a super tight ship and is a perfectionist and he adores our house which is lovely. Im so happy, I could cry. After a month of moving our shit out, we’re finally starting today. Our kids were super excited too which is nice. A day doesn’t go past that I don’t appreciate how lucky I am. We look forward to sharing this huge renovation with you. 15.01.2022 What a transformation this room has had... And it’s our favourite room in the house! We have poured some hours into it and have kept many original features like the old owners writing- a polish man who used it as his workshop had written on the walls and the back of the original storage unit. We can’t wait to have the previous owners children around to show them. We still have a few things to do like blinds, sheers and styling and organising but we absolutely LOVE this second living room and playroom for the kids! What do you think? @ Moonah, Tasmania, Australia

13.01.2022 When you come home and someone’s been in your house but it’s totally fine because it’s @innovate.build and they left you a lovely card and a beautiful potted plant from @botanicalhobart. We’ve loved working with you too @kaitlinsul and Brodie the team. We will forever be grateful that you could fit us in. Don’t worry, we’ve already got some other projects on the cards that we would love you to do. The kids already miss you all! @bon_mac_ especially

07.01.2022 I’m interested to know, what colours, style, fixtures and fittings would you do at Boa? Keep in mind it’s a 114 + year old house with lots of wood and parts of the house are pretty dark with not much natural light. #givemeyourpictureinspo

06.01.2022 So... When we first posted the plans there was a suggestion by someone(can’t remember who) to open up a room that we call the piano room. At the time I dismissed it and then a month or so later I mentioned it to @samm.harrington and he nearly had a hernia but I couldn’t let go of it. On Christmas Eve, I was in the kitchen at Beresford cooking and the kids were watching the carols and I love how connected the two areas were so I contacted our architect @crumparchitects and as...ked him the possibility of it happening. After climbing under the house and getting himself pretty dusty and making a phone call to the engineers, we’re pretty sure it’s all good. So I told the husband and he didn’t put too much of a fight up which was both great and a tad disappointing so watch this space! We decided to incorporate a second oven in the new walk in pantry. Being a large family and also having a large extended family, our gatherings can be big so getting a small 600 oven will make a difference. It’s a luxury but given we plan to stay in this house for a very long time, I think it’s a good investment. #boavistagetsrenoed

05.01.2022 It’s only taken me 2 years to do this but I really wanted to reuse this old bag somehow. It belonged to my grandmothers second husband and then my eldest brother Dave used it as a tack bag for his horses for years. He was one of @samm.harrington’s closest friends- that’s how we met all those years ago and in 2002, he passed suddenly in a car crash. I could just see Dave rolling his eyes at me with another one of my unconventional ideas and asking me how it’s going to work with drainage etc but that’s ok...I will figure that one out later but for now, it makes me happy and I’m hoping this olive tree loves it’s new home!

01.01.2022 We’re excited to be starting our next project- building a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom and a 2 bedroom, 2 toilet house on our Moonah property. This has been our vision when we first layed eyes on this property and we can’t wait to take you through this project over the coming 6 months. We look forward to working with Matt and Julian as they launch their new business. Thanks again to @crumparchitects for another great job. This will take us up to 24 houses over the last 12 years!#hobart #moonah #buildinghouses

01.01.2022 When we looked at buying Beresford- which was off market and the first time offered for sale, we new immediately that it ticked all of our must have’s if we were going to develop again. We had just finished building 12 houses at Claremont which to be honest, was an awful experience due to a number of factors so we were pretty burnt out. Beresford provided the chance to do a full scale renovation which I was keen to do, a place for us to live while our family home underwent ...a full transformation instead of renting, a chance to customise the house so that my mum and step dad(who has a mobility disability) were able to live comfortably into their retirement and a chance for us to get back on the horse and build two houses again. This place is extremely important to me. I actually had visions about it just after my lung cancer surgery so when I walked in the front door- I knew it was the one. Both of the houses will go on the market in about 4 months time once I’ve styled them. They will suit professional couples or retirees ideally as they will be very low maintenance with a small amount of yard space. We look forward to sharing this next journey with you.
