23.01.2022 Good morning old friends... We have missed seeing your faces at Stellar Violets over the past year. Hopefully this will change soon. A gentle bloom of community energy is returning here, in tune with the scatterlings of sunflowers that survived the guinea fowl, magpies and peacock! We opened up this new ground with a borrowed rotary hoe, knowing most of it has poor fertility and low organic matter. Enjoying the flowering buckwheat, young carrots from our saved abundance of s...eed, and Japanese millet as they grow and as usual, can’t bear the thought of cutting any of this growth now to turn it in, and improve the soil. Instead perhaps we’ll let seed set to feed our chickens and the birds. We forgot to add the mung bean to the sowing mix so missed the nitrogen fixer... next time. We have a new volunteer, local PhD scriptwriter and facilitator, Rose Ferrell. She will work with us to invite community here soon for an Open Space gathering. More details soon.

19.01.2022 "You give me Fervor" Things heated up beyond 100 degrees fahrenheit on Saturday night as Native Food Chef Yoda Iskov and his entourage rolled into Stellar Violets and increased the heat with a tantalizing array of culinary delights.
17.01.2022 NATURE PLAYGROUP WEEK 8 - This week is our FINAL playgroup session for 2019 and we want to see the year out with a SPARK ! 17.01.2022 Welcoming 2021 with this Threshold Musing from Lucinda | Last night in this place, sitting witness enwrapped... in a rug, imagined being enCroned beneath mythic thunder and lightning, eyes on a full moon, itself aglow for an age in a strangely clear parcel of eastern sky I’m deep inside a brief passage of time a precious life that will pass some unknown day too soon when it comes, or maybe it’ll be enough when I look back here from there at another threshold when time in this body has almost gone pfffffoof, I’ll be off, becoming an ancestor, should it come to pass that I am worthy of being claimed What would it take, to become an ancestor worthy of being claimed? feel the aliveness form part of this coursing rage of energy where lightening torchlights are out seeking seeding carrot and fennel, blinding me with a vast spectacle announcing this chance at heartfelt clairsentience... 15.01.2022 Bit of a fun start to the day popping this little addition into place! I didn’t even break a sweat pointing nor taking these snaps . The Claw unleashed super impressive, slick manoeuvres during unloading (swipe right). In the industry they call it a side lifter, which totally dumbs it down in my view. Volunteers have generously put up with all sorts of ad hoc tool storage setups over the years: walking one way for this thing, that way for the other. To find out that thin...g is somewhere else. Such patience and tolerance! We can’t wait to set up and warm up this streamlined tool store promise for 2020. It’s time to have some MORE fun! The container came with built in shelves and lighting already wired, missing doors at one end but otherwise like a whistle and a song! 40ft for only 1K is unheard of, until today. Two hours later I got a call, to be offered not one, but several more train carriages, also for a song... . Stoked to have Alistair of @urban_journey (Insta) along for a ride, donating expertise as landscape architect. He is fully supportive of the levels of madness embraced here thus far, as one needs to be... and presently drawing up a coherent master plan from this creative soup ! #thisiswa #communitydevelopment #volunteerism #voluntourism #seacontainer #livingmuseum #culturalcentre #flourish #cocreators #toolshedgoals #manjimup #placemaking #westernaustraliauncovered #westernaustraliauncovered #regionalaustralia #regionaldevelopment #womenwholead @ Stellar Violets
15.01.2022 Bouquets of gratitude to @aravisflowers , who we have to thank for bringing the Café au Lait to Manjimup, and sharing the love. The bulbs I gifted went in on time, but ours were planted in mid December and I worried that was too late... not to worry. Here’s the bloom by the lime tree from a few days ago. Planting aspirations for this winter - spring are peaky already! Dahlias by every path to tend one’s heart. #bloomsoftheday #stellarviolets #manjimuplife #gardengoals
15.01.2022 Wandered around in the cooling late afternoon plucking crunchy black Bing, and a few early Rainier - white fleshed bliss. They are particularly, pleasingly plump this year. Several too many never made it to the bag, and the remaining healthy load landed in the fridge awaiting the final Nature Playgroup for 2019. All welcome, let’s have a lovely last gathering! We’ll ensure to have not just ample cherries but gorgeous activities for little ones, and a few refreshing light mi...sters on hand to counter the heat! Beyond this week we are fast approaching our very special Fervor pop up. For those who don’t know Fervor, this promises to be an extraordinarily memorable journey of discovery into native foods. Naturally, ample cherries will be festooned upon our night, as will the family cider, apple spirit, and luscious Lillian wines by John Brocksopp (which are very hard to get hold of, and we have them thanks to @jobelini . #thisiswa #cherryfestival #tourismaustralia #restaurantaustralia #cherries #farm #knowyourfarmer #culturegram #stellarviolets #flourish #discovery #foodjourney #popupdining
08.01.2022 Left tantalised and in states of high satiety following a hugely successful Saturday night of Fervor at Stellar Violets! 03.01.2022 Anyone lucky enough to get a Boxing Day reading session? Had a luscious lay down for a few hours and gobbled up Heartwood by Rowan Reid, a rich and informative book that has broadened the way I’m thinking about the role of trees in a changing climate on our land, and my own as a land steward. I have a lot to learn. Stellar Violets land lease size recently increased from two to eight acres, and we’re taking some time to consider what we might do.... How and why might we select, and manage future tree plantings? Trees have so many possible functions, so with good design selection and management, we have the opportunity to create effective windbreaks, shade, animal fodder, while increasing soil fertility and water holding capacity, locking up carbon, creating wildlife habitat and even, producing food. What miraculous life forms trees are! Rowan is convincing. Indeed, why not also prune trees in their early years to nurture a tall straight trunk rich in heartwood, and suitable for fine furniture or construction? He echoes the sentiments of our recently passed mentor, silvoculturalist Michael Gill. I can’t see any reason why not to create a micro farm plan incorporating our own version of sustainable farm forestry, and look forward to incorporating Reid’s experiences and knowledge into our design process as it unfolds in 2020. Thanks Jeremy Connor for the book loan, and helping us on our lifelong learning path. I’d like to connect with locals who completed the Master Tree Growers courses, and have applied these principles already on farm. If anyone catches wind of a similar course coming up, please let us know.
03.01.2022 A dear friend, Vive Oldham, who runs festivals in Perth , said to event manage well, you need to be a good problem solver. I always feel pressure in the lead up to our events to get all the things done. The lending of hands is always gratefully received yet sometimes inconsistent, or not as timely as needed. Still, without being able to predict how or when it will happen, an element of mystery always seems to enter. I’m found by solutions at just the right time. Last year it ...was a merry cohort of travellers in Conglobo & Eddie Harran, who actually saved us as we outworked a bigger vision than had really time or people for! This year, our usual bar managing suspects are busy, and a few calls to various people over a few weeks hadn’t bore fruit. Yesterday I received a completely random text from a woman called Jade, a Parisian who has spent four years travelling NZ and Australia. She had seen I wasn’t active on Couchsurfing at the moment, but I had good reviews and the photos looked beautiful so... she thought she would try anyway. I welcomed Jade, whose enthusiasm revived me - i think this is the most beautiful place I’ve been. She lit up at the idea of helping out at our bar, too! I’m off soon to drop her off to a cherry picking job, as farmers stock stores for Manjimup Cherry Harmony Festival this Saturday. Tickets for our Fervor event are available until Thursday. Jade and Dan, a newbie to town, will be there to pour you a reviving ice cold one at the end of a hot festival day on Saturday 14th! #bistrotable #thisiswa #culturalcentre #tourismwa #couchsurfing #worldtravellers #collaborations #manjimupisok #stellarviolets #traincarriages #popupdining
03.01.2022 A few stellar gals
01.01.2022 We're braiding more of these beauties tomorrow, Wednesday 27 November. If you'd like to help and learn how, pop out to Stellar Violets around 10am to join in. If you'd like to buy a braid, now's the moment to PM an order. Delivery to Margaret River Thursday, Perth Monday. Otherwise pickup Manjimup. We will only offer braids for a week or two, as after that the stems will be too dry so we'll take a break from garlic to focus on cherries & Christmas!
