23.01.2022 This morning I have been informed by a family member about an extremely distressing incident that occurred on Sunday afternoon in Victoria involving police brutality against an adult male with bipolar disorder, who is now currently in a coma. As a parent of a young person with significant mental health issues, as a mental health practitioner working in the field, and as an advocate of human rights, I am completely distressed, appalled and outraged by what has occurred and hop...e that a full investigation takes place. And I cannot help but wonder how the outcome for this man may have looked very different if this same incident had been responded to with compassionate and professional responses from qualified ambulance officers, mental health workers and social workers instead of brutal police force. My heart is breaking for this man and his family today. Following is a link to an ABC news article - please note that it includes extremely distressing footage of the incident as recorded by a civilian bystander. If you or a family member are needing support, please contact Lifeline on 131114 or Beyond Blue on 1300224636 https://amp.abc.net.au/article/1266133

18.01.2022 Due to an increasing demand for mental health support services in our local area and an ever growing waiting list, I have had to make the very difficult decision to close my waiting list to new referrals at the present time. I will review this decision again at the end of March 2021 and provide an update at this time. For new clients and families reaching out for support, please consult with your local General Practitioner if you are needing mental health support to discuss alternate possible referral pathways. I look forward to continuing to provide high quality care and support to my existing clients and families and thank everyone for their wonderful support and encouragement over the past eighteen months in my Step by Step practice.

16.01.2022 Parenting adolescents can be such a delicate balance between being present to offer love and support, but also giving space for self discovery and independence. It’s such a beautiful and yet gut wrenching time as parents, and I often find myself not getting it right! Thank you for sharing Faorligh Hunter - I also love and find comfort in these words of wisdom from another loving Mama

15.01.2022 We know independent assessments are a big change for people applying to access the NDIS, and for existing participants. And we understand that change can create... uncertainty. We are committed to working with participants, their families and carers, peak bodies, disability organisations and peer and family networks between now and the start of independent assessments, to make sure they work effectively for participants. We’re already hearing from participants and the disability community about what they’d like to know about the introduction of independent assessments. We’ve answered some of the most frequently asked questions (FAQs) on our website: https://bit.ly/33aNch4
