25.01.2022 Bonsai Horizons has been cancelled due to Covid-19 virus. It is very sad as the committee has put in a large effort to get this conference organised. It is also... sad because we wanted to spend this amazing weekend with you. So looking forward to next year. But most of all please keep safe. See more

22.01.2022 No prizes for guessing why the airmass is going to be so cold over SE Australia later this week once you look at this forecast graphic! The flow is coming all t...he way from Antarctica. Even though that flow takes a somewhat meandering path on its way to Australia and has to travel over ocean waters that are warmer than it (in comparison), it'll still be very cold by the time it reaches the continent...... and combined with the moisture it picks up along the way, it's likely to cause the widespread highland snowfalls expected in SE Australia later this week/weekend. For more info including the upcoming widespread strong winds (which may also eventually affect SEQ), refer to: https://www.facebook.com//a.2791336025/10158564781512505/ Graphics courtesy of Unidata, IDV, and UCAR. 20.01.2022 Some of my Penjing in development, I tried taking the pictures in the dark of the morning to get a dark backdrop, usually the background is to green and busy to... see the Penjing. There 2 Australian natives in there, a Hebe and an Eucalyptus. I tend to look for stock that I can get and that is suitable for my needs, be it exotic or Australian native I do not mind as long as it is stock that suits me or one of my students. Most of these Penjing in development have cages around the roots, for the trees are planted very high in the pots so that in time I slowly reduce the cage size to expose the roots for effect. Dedication to duty for it was only -1 deg app temp See more

19.01.2022 Watching the clock for so many years, I did not pay attention to it. What a magic.

15.01.2022 Today I finished planting up this 1.8m x 60cm landscape onto a marble slab for a client. I used some 25 year old bonsai stock she had. Tasmanian shale rock, some are mounted on top of bricks to give the setting extra height.

07.01.2022 First day back for the Bonsai and Penjing School of Tasmania conducting the regular monthly public demonstrations. Social distancing still in place so a spread out day. Low key but here, oh by the way only -2.4deg so may have some time to myself before others get out.

05.01.2022 Potted a couple of 30 year old ground grown Mugo pines for a client yesterday, into pots from Bonsai Ceramics SA. I needed some help to get one of them of the bank where it was growing.

02.01.2022 I rescued some large old Spruce Ex-Christmas trees from a certain death. They would be about 35 years old and it was great to have them as a single trunk, not m...ulti trunked as they are often grown for Xmas trees. They were not selling, for I think they were too much of a challenge for my students . So I thought I would put so styling into them to give them some ideas and future direction. This is one of them . See more
