18.05.2022 May 2017 - I was fortunate to be at a trauma conference in Israel with group of Australian researchers who got to visit Tel Aviv University and see the amazing research program being run by Professor Yair Bar-Haim - on the way back on the plane we wrote a research partnership proposal. The resulting research has just been published. Despite many challenges- not least COVID - and thanks to the dedication of the research team but also the staff at Open Arms - Veterans & Fami...lies Counselling - we were able to complete this novel proof-of-concept pilot in the early intervention space. ‘Military populations have altered threat-monitoring systems that would benefit from recalibration upon transitioning from military service to reduce their risk of developing mental health disorders, including PTSD. Attention-control training is a simple early intervention strategy that has the potential to rebalance threat monitoring to more adaptive levels suitable for civilian life. The results of the present study provide preliminary evidence that the provision of attention-control training early in the military transition journey results in fewer PTSD symptoms and less functional impairment for veterans.’ This is an exciting pilot and demonstrates the power of partnership and persistence. https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/jts.22828

30.04.2022 Being the keynote at the Australian Government Department of Veterans' Affairs, International Woman Days diversity event, was an opportunity to acknowledge the woman who has had the greatest impact on my life - my mum - Jill Elizabeth Fulton. Mum joined the public service in the 60’s at a time when you had to leave when you married. She did not have the opportunity to have a career, meeting and marrying my dad, but she raised girls to have the confidence they could do any...thing. I am grateful that I have had a 29 year public service career, first in the Army, DVA and currently Health. My mum supported me throughout this career to follow my passion but also raise a family. I am so grateful that in a single generation that opportunities have changed so much - however more needs to be done to achieve full equality- but so hopeful for the next generation. #breakthebias2022 #strongertogether

11.04.2022 Humbled and incredibly grateful to be able to work with amazing people on work that matters. Always forever grateful to my husband and boys for their tolerance and support, my bosses for their confidence and willingness to take risks and peers and teammates who have become friends. #StrongerTogether

09.01.2022 Over the last two weeks, our peers have challenged the veteran community to reach out and check on 5 mates. If you're looking to go beyond the challenge, we ha...ve online or in-person suicide intervention programs or workshops to help you learn how to talk to someone who may be struggling: https://www.openarms.gov.au/get-support/suicide-intervention You could re-check in with those 5 mates and encourage them to do the same. #Check5. Educate. Encourage. Connecting with someone might save a life. #CheckYourMates #StrongerTogether

09.01.2022 Only a week left for veterans to assist with this project...

04.01.2022 New Years can be lonely for some, especially if they have lost the person this year they would usually celebrate with - spare a moment to check in with some mates #check5

04.01.2022 Often talk about the positive impact of dogs - but I also love cats Apollo would have been a great war cat - loves catching mice and is the size of a small dog #StrongerTogether #ForApollo
