03.01.2022 For this weeks #BRAGStudioSet we take a look at Stephen Hogan. His work will be on display in the BRAG foyer from Tuesday 21 July until Sunday 13 September in ...Stephen Hogan: Imagine Stephen Hogan is a sculptor based in Bathurst, in the central west of NSW, Australia. Stephen is passionate about preserving the unique, hand forged and machine-made pieces of Australias historical past. He sees beauty where others see scrap. Part of the joy of Stephens work is the way he brings these pieces together in surprising new forms. Some pieces wait years to find their companions. As a result, every sculpture that Stephen creates is a unique one-off. For Stephen, the studio is not only a sanctuary where he can express himself but its also a portal that can take him somewhere different every day. His studio is more than a workspace, its where he can be most himself and let his imagination run completely free. "Its the place Ive always sought, a place with no rules." 03.01.2022 Just finished installing at Sculpture in the Vineyards in Wollombi. Heres a little bit about my piece "The Australia Policy" features a lonely figure imprisoned in an isolated cell, held by bars at the front and a rabbit trap at the rear. He is cut off from family, from country. On one level this work speaks to our history of separating indigenous people from their families, their land and their culture. He is held in a place completely foreign to the one he has known. Devoid of hope he will wither and die. 200 years later people, who have lost their land, their families and their culture are coming to our shores and still we separate and incarcerate them. We have learnt very little.
