25.01.2022 National Reconciliation Week, like so many public events due to COVID, had many events cancelled. The importance of the week still remains the same, it is a time for ALL Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieve reconciliation in Australia. (Reconciliation Australia). I miss the wonderful, heartfelt events of last year organised by Jie Pittman and Blacktown City Council and look forward to future events.
15.01.2022 Congratulations to Shadow Minister Julia Finn MP and Labor to negotiate with the upper house cross benchers in NSW Parliament to address some of the problems faced by tenants and landlords. The amendments allow access to NSW Government financial support of up to $2,500 per property if the following is demonstrated: - tenant has suffered loss of income of 25% or more - tenant has less than $5,000 in savings... - tenant paying more than 30% of their income in rent We need to keep people in their homes and support during this pandemic. It is up to State Liberal / National parties to accept the amendment in Parliament today. If you live in Riverstone or Seven Hills, please contact the Liberal member and ask them to get their Government to support it.
04.01.2022 New Schofields Public School planned for 600 but already has 723 enrolments for next year. Liberal Government all spin but fail to properly fund the massive growth in Blacktown City despite having a local Liberal MP who campaigned back in 2011 to get elected that he would deliver what is needed for the growing population. Thank you to Prue Car MP Labor Shadow Minister for Education to highlight another Liberal hypocrisy when it comes to the Western Sydney. https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au//a1e806cd8c9de38fef14249
04.01.2022 Women’s World Cup bid successfully won by Aus/NZ! I am sure a team or two can base themselves out in Blacktown City! 2023 will be an exciting year! Go the Matildas
01.01.2022 Even though the current COVID crisis has stopped celebrations in the mosques and community gatherings BUT nothing could stop the goodwill and peace that has been harnessed through prayer and self sacrifice by the people of the Muslim faith. Wishing you all Eid Mubarak
01.01.2022 Round 1 was a win to the workers with the NSW Legislative Council voting to block the pay cut to State Government employees. This is a win to all workers as many employers take guidance from Government wages policy and would have argued for no pay rise for private sector employees as well. We have seen the Liberals/Nationals and business lobby groups argue against the current Federal Wage case to increase the minimum Award wages.... Putting money into individual’s pockets will stimulate the economy. They will spend money on goods and services helping to people employed. Whilst we acknowledge businesses are struggling, but it is no time to cut wages. The business support packages must be more focused on providing timely assistance to where it is needed. Now for Round 2, the Industrial Relations Commission which means the Government can adopted the low tactic of dragging it out so they don’t have to pay for the increase.
