18.01.2022 We wish all our clients a Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year!!
18.01.2022 COVID-19 RESPONSE UPDATE As you will all be aware the Australian Government has announced a business and economic wide stimulus package that will take some absorption and so we are in the process of studying that and getting a newsletter out to the public to our clients and will attempt to have that posted either directly to you or on Facebook and my website tomorrow 24 March 2020 this will include matters covered by the Australian Taxation Office. Boosting cash flow for empl...oyers Provides up to $100,000 to eligible small and medium sized businesses, and not-for-profits (including charities) that employ people, with a minimum payment of $20,000. Temporary Relief for financially distressed businesses Increasing the threshold at which creditors can issue a statutory demand on a company and the time companies have to respond to statutory demands they receive. Including a temporary increase in the threshold a creditor can initiate bankruptcy proceedings. Increase in Instant Write off The Government is increasing the instant asset write-off threshold from $30,000 to $150,000 and expanding access to include businesses with aggregated annual turnover of less than $500 million (up from $50 million) until 30 June 2020. Business Activity statements Jan Mar due May 2020 April June due July/ August 2020 This includes following: 1. Cash or credit for withholding tax 2. Deferral of time to lodge 3. Deferral of time to pay 4. Elimination of penalties and interest charges Income support for individuals There is an amount of supplement to pay at the rate of $550 per fortnight, the application will be via Centre Link and will need to be handled by clients directly. Payments support households Two separate payments will be made to eligible payment recipients concession card holders. Individuals will need to lodge a claim to quality for these payments. First Payment: 12 Mar 2020 13 April 2020 Second Payment: 13 July 2020 These payments are $750 and are exempt from tax and will not count as income for the purposes of Social Security. Loan Guarantees Another response will be supporting the flow of credit whereby the Government and Reserve Bank will provide lenders with guarantees for loans as a result of economic downturn. This would seem to be a measure that will not be accessed by people unless they are in difficult financial circumstances. Self Managed Super Funds These will be able to reduce the amount of pension required in order to comply with the existing concessional taxation treatment i.e. if your minimum is 4% it will now be 2% at your discretion. 05.01.2022 COVID-19 RESPONSE UPDATE - 9th April 2020 As we are all aware the Australian Government has announced further business and economic wide stimulus packages that will assist businesses and individuals in getting through the economic side of the current health crisis. I suggest that you do the following:... 1) Assemble all information required for Activity Statements - Instalments (based on income) - Business Activity 31 March 20 Processing of financial information ready for lodging by 28 April 2020. Cashflow Boost credits will be triggered by lodging your BAS. 2) Cash Flow Planning is essential to look at cashflow expectations, some of which are difficult to predict Income. However, you know all of your overheads and each of these should be reviewed line by line to see whether there might be potential savings you can make. 3) Rent Reviews the availability of these have been announced by the Government and will need to be dealt with on a case-by-case basis, so the things you should do now is look at the following a) Review your lease to determine what dates and clauses are relevant. b) Turnover Analysis - look at the March to June 2019 with a view to have a comparison column for April to June 2020: in an Excel spreadsheet or other means, in readiness for determining the claims that may be available. 4) Please ensure that your Business has registered for the Job Keeper that may be available in May 2020 - depending upon your individual circumstances. 5) Working from Home - many of you will be working from home and there are some things that you should do to maximise Home Office expense claims for the 30 June 2020 year. a) Set aside a dedicated work area that can be used exclusively as your home office. The Tax office do allow for a greater range of deductions where the tax payer sets up a dedicated room. b) The Tax Office has issued a ruling that 80 per hour can be claimed for power, heating, cooling, etc for the period of 1 March 2020 to 30 June 2020. This is up from the standard rate of 52 per hour. Other expenses may be deductible so record any expenses relating to the use of home expenses. 6) If yours is an employment situation, then an immediate claim of $300 is available where the equipment costs $300 or less. 7) Special Write-Off Stimulus Incentive - in a business situation, the stimulus package contains an eligibility to claim up $150,000 this will be influenced by: a) Cashflow implications b) Taxable Income expectations 2020 (see budgets above) For further information, please contact our office on 8363 5222 or Stephen 0414 646 069
02.01.2022 COVIDSafe App After consulting with our IT Support and Security provider - at Stephen K Shirley Management and Staff have been downloading the COVIDSafe App and we highly recommend to all our Clients and Friends do the same. In brief, here are some key points to address your concerns:... State and territory health officials can only access app information if someone tests positive and agrees to the information in their phone being uploaded. The information is encrypted and that encrypted identifier is stored securely on your phone. Not even you can access it. The contact information stored in peoples mobiles is deleted on a 21-day rolling cycle. Based on this information, we have no concerns about using the app. I recommend everyone use it to help Australia get through this COVID-19 situation as quickly as possible and get the ECONOMY moving again.
