25.01.2022 Training Tip: If you're lucky enough to have a sand arena or have access to one, organise to harrow it and then have a ride over it, practicing your shapes, changes and lines, trying to be as accurate as possible. At the end of the ride stop and have a look at your tracks and ask yourself... How closely did you stick to your lines and tracks? Were your circles an accurate size and did they hit the right markers? Was your change through the middle in line with X? Ar...e your tracks relatively concise, following the same path or wide and a bit all over the place? It's a simple and easy way to get visual feedback on how accurately you consistently ride around the arena. By being more conscious of the path you take, you can improve your accuracy to markers and the size of your circles. It also helps to boost your dressage marks, being able to consistently ride an accurate line, and saves nerves when you're the first rider out at a comp on a freshly harrowed arena with no fellow competitors lines to follow! #horsesofinstagram #horseriding #horseridinglessons #horseridingcoach #horsecoaching #trainingtip #freshtracks #betteryourdressagescore #selfevaluation

23.01.2022 Hi Guys, Just to answer a few common questions I'm getting with the new Covid restrictions: - yes I'm still running lessons, however I'm unable to offer group lessons at this time - I can come to you for lessons but unfortunately you cannot float out for the purpose of a lesson... Have a read of the document below if you have any other questions, this is the official joint release from EV, PCAV and HRCAV and should cover everything. If you have any questions or want to book in a lesson, DM me or give me a call on 0437 251 420. Stay safe everyone x

21.01.2022 Thankyou so much to everyone who's messaged me and booked in, it's been wonderful being able to get out and see you all again, meet some new faces, and see some gorgeous summer coats coming through! We've certainly hit the ground running with restrictions easing, and things are starting to get quite busy so just a reminder to message me early (best to book a few weeks in advance) to get your desired day/time. Saturday's are completely booked til Christmas, with limited availability on Sunday's (some Sundays are completely booked already). There's still some mid week availability but if you're after a weekend lesson get in quick, these spots fill fast! Happy riding everyone!

21.01.2022 If you have some spare cash please consider buying a ticket to support this incredible club. Such a resilient club with such wonderful, friendly, hardworking members and supporters. Would be awesome to get off the steep grassy hill and into a sand arena! Plus there's some great prizes on offer!

20.01.2022 A great explanation of the biomechanical effect of looking down at your horse while you ride rather than looking up at where you are going. When I say "eyes up!" it's not without reason! A very simple cue that has such a significant impact on how you travel as a pair.

19.01.2022 I can relate to more than a point or two here...

17.01.2022 Feed is such a key component of our horses wellbeing and performance. Especially coming into Spring with fresh green grass sprouting and some ponies out of work or returning to work with Covid it's crucial you make a plan and reassess their feed over the next few weeks. As always if you have any questions please don't hesitate to give me a call or pm me, always happy to help. I also recommend you check out the upcoming zoom with KER, a great initiative by PCAV, and a great opportunity to further your knowledge in this area

17.01.2022 Some key things to note as the spring grass is coming through...

16.01.2022 CO-VID19 Update: Coaches can now coach on public grounds as well as private, so lessons can go ahead at pony club grounds Private and Semi-private (groups of 2) only at the moment due to Covid restrictions, so no group lessons for the time being. Pm me or give me a call on 0437 251 420 to book

15.01.2022 It's so important to make sure your girth sits in the right areas and that the buckle does not rest straight onto the horses side but rather is seperated either by a buckle guard or by the saddle. Incorrect girth placement can cause discomfort and even cause girthy behaviours in some horses. It's important to be conscious of this and check each time before you ride, as the area your girth sits is likely to change as your horse's weight changes so you may need to move it or change it to ensure it sits in the right areas. When did you last check your girth placement?

14.01.2022 Merry Christmas Everyone! Wishing you all a safe and happy Christmas

07.01.2022 An interesting read and definitely something to look out for. I identify pain through a combination of change in movement, an appearance of discomfort and their face. They can be quite expressive sometimes when you know what to look for, and the ability to identify pain, discomfort, and/or abnormal behaviour is key to maintaining a happy and healthy horse. When was the last time you evaluated your horse's comfort levels?

06.01.2022 "A thought-provoking read... By Jane Smiley Most horses pass from one human to another - some horsemen and women are patient and forgiving, others are rigor...ous and demanding, others are cruel, others are ignorant. Horses have to learn how to, at the minimum, walk, trot, canter, gallop, go on trails and maybe jump, to be treated by the vet, all with sense and good manners. Talented Thoroughbreds must learn how to win races, and if they can't do that, they must learn how to negotiate courses and jump over strange obstacles without touching them, or do complicated dance-like movements or control cattle or accommodate severely handicapped children and adults in therapy work. Many horses learn all of these things in the course of a single lifetime. Besides this, they learn to understand and fit into the successive social systems of other horses they meet along the way. A horse's life is rather like twenty years in foster care, or in and out of prison, while at the same time changing schools over and over and discovering that not only do the other students already have their own social groups, but that what you learned at the old school hasn't much application at the new one. We do not require as much of any other species, including humans. That horses frequently excel, that they exceed the expectations of their owners and trainers in such circumstances, is as much a testament to their intelligence and adaptability as to their relationship skills or their natural generosity or their inborn nature. That they sometimes manifest the same symptoms as abandoned orphans - distress, strange behaviours, anger, fear - is less surprising than that they usually don't. No one expects a child, or even a dog to develop its intellectual capacities living in a box 23 hours a day and then doing controlled exercises the remaining one. Mammal minds develop through social interaction and stimulation. A horse that seems "stupid", "slow", "stubborn", etc. might just have not gotten the chance to learn! Take care of your horses and treasure them." #wadifarmlife #gowiththeflow photo (c) KAW
