We develop a routine that’s catered towards you, your dance ability and your dance goals! Limited spots available, so please DM for more info

24.01.2022 Accomplishment Post We want to give a massive shoutout to our student Jake Hiscock for putting himself out there and competing in the Jack & Jill competition this weekend! In Jack & Jill you get assigned a random partner to dance with. It may be someone you’ve never danced with before or even met!... In this competition Jake won the intermediate division and then got the opportunity to compete against the instructors! He even made it to the finals against the instructors... congratulations! Also a massive shoutout to Uriah Carpentier, who placed 2nd in the intermediate division! We’ve loved being part of your dance journey! Love seeing our students succeed, super proud

22.01.2022 We’ll be dropping our latest dance video on Friday Make sure to keep an eye out for it... we can’t wait to share this sexy number with all of you! Squad goals

20.01.2022 Sneak peek This is week 2 of our fabulous new ladies styling routine with 12 lovely and gorgeous ladies taking part! It’s hard to believe a large chunk of the class have never danced the style before... A little bit of hard work, dedication and a whole lot of sass definitely pays off ... Loving this ladies team! Demo (left to right): Odette Lawler Kelsy Luengen April Tucker Music: @jlo

20.01.2022 Hi new followers! We’ve had a whole bunch of new followers lately, so we thought we’d take this opportunity to introduce who’s behind Stepping in Sequins. This here is @miss.kelsy - criminologist by day, dancer by night... and somewhere in her spare time does business coaching, too!... Kelsy started her Latin journey when she was only 14, and started her dance first teams at the age of 20. Kelsy wanted a school where people could develop confidence, be helped to achieve their dance goals, and learn in a structured and fun environment. She wanted a classroom which could be full of energy but also provide individual attention. Thank you to everyone who’s followed and liked our page recently! Give us a little hello so we can welcome you properly

18.01.2022 A little behind the scenes action! This week we started adding formations to our routines for an upcoming video! We’ve been doing this routine for 10 weeks and it’s come a long way... so much effort and dedication from this group of ladies Can’t wait to share the final version with you all in a few weeks time... we’re all super excited!

17.01.2022 Ever feel like you’re just not getting it? Same. Sometimes it takes a while before it clicks. It might be the timing of a dance style. The mechanics of contra body movement. How to keep control and balance in spins.... We all have our own battles, but mistakes and failure show us we’re trying something new! Keep going, you got this

17.01.2022 Thank you for the genuine and thoughtful words. This one definitely brought out tears of happiness We try really hard to ensure people feel like they are developing confidence. Not only in their dance, but in themselves through dance. Thank you to everyone who’s trusted us to be a part of your journey so far... we’ll always be there, by your side, as your biggest supporters! @ Brisbane, Queensland, Australia

17.01.2022 It’s been a big few weeks of birthday in the SIS family! Happy birthdays to @isobellasjs @huffpuff27 @lachlandancing and Paul! Sarah first joined us back in 2016 for a ladies styling and burlesque routine, before taking on team routines and a pro/am. She left us for Sydney but we’re proud to say she came dancing back into two routines... you might even see her taking on another duet ... Lachlan joined us first for the Dragon Ball Bachata and Salsa Shines teams in 2019! His positive energy and team spirit earned him the best team player award, with nominations coming from his teammates! Bella joined us this year for our ladies stiletto Cha Cha Cha routine This science wiz has took on a challenging routine and always wanted feedback to improve. Definitely a pocket rocket! Lastly Paul joined us this year for both the Bachata and Salsa shines teams! He was actually one of @miss.kelsy first students when she started teaching partner work in Brisbane quite a few years ago... amazing to see he’s now an instructor, too! Happy Birthday squad, and thank you for being a part of our 2020 teams and videos We hope you’ve had amazing birthdays, and look forward to many more years of dancing with you

16.01.2022 Why are we so excited today! Because we get to start our very own flight crew and welcome a full team wingmen and wingwomen! That’s right, we’re at COVID venue capacity and have even started a wait list for this super fun and dynamic routine ... Plus our ladies team beforehand is also SOLD OUT! So we’re welcoming 12 gorgeous ladies who are ready to develop their samba and take on a fierce stiletto routine! Keep your eyes peeled for updates on how the teams are progressing, we’re expecting some great dance glow ups from our students!

16.01.2022 Not sure what to do after dance class? Stretch! After working your body, moving it in new ways and doing repetitive movements it’s super important to stretch. This helps reduce injury, improves flexibility and can decrease muscle soreness.... Our favourite three standing leg stretches are: 1) Lunging calf stretch Stand with your feet together, then place one foot about 1 meter in front. Ensure you keep the heel of your back foot on the floor to really feel that stretch! Hold for 30 seconds then swap legs. 2. Front bend hamstring stretch With your feet together hinge from the hips and try to touch the floor with your hands. Can’t touch the floor? Spread your legs apart a little and add a little bend to your knees. Hold for 30 seconds. 3. Standing quad stretch Lift one leg, holding it with the hand on the same side (right hand holds right ankle, left hand hold left ankle). Pull the foot towards your bum and try to keep your knees together. Not great with balance? Hold onto a chair or a wall for support. Hold for 30 seconds then swap legs! Try doing these after class and tell us how you feel!

15.01.2022 Happy New Year! Thank you to the wonderful people who supported us in 2020 It’s been the first year we didn’t go to competition or do a public team performance. But, it’s also the first year we taught and performed internationally, the first proper team video, and the first time we had sold out routines AND a waitlist ... To celebrate we had ourselves a merry little end of year celebration. I made lots of home cooked food, we played dirty Santa, and gave out some well deserved awards! Looking forward to making 2021 bigger and better... who’s ready for new and exciting dancing challenges this year? @ Brisbane, Queensland, Australia

14.01.2022 'Tis the season! We want to take this opportunity to wish you and your family a happy holiday season. It's been quite a year, but together with our amazing students and dance community we've finished on a high We hope you've had a wonderful Christmas, make the most out of this Boxing Day Holiday, and have some great New Year celebrations.

14.01.2022 Have you set yourself any dance goals for 2021? We love setting SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Timely) goals at regular intervals throughout the year... and what better time to set new goals than a new year! If you haven't set any for yourself yet, here are 10 suggestions for broad and specific dance goals that you can adapt to suit your dance journey:... 1. Post a monthly video of yourself dancing (shines, socials, or practicing) 2. Improve and practice spotting in your turns (makes spins easier) 3. Practice and make a habit of looking up, not looking at the floor (it helps you look confident) 4. Choreograph your own combination and use it social dancing (to start making moves that suit your style) 5. Take a private with a teacher you haven't danced with before (to broaden your dance horizons) 6. Allocate time during the week to work on feedback received in class/drill the content learnt (this fast tracks your progress) 7. Make a habit of weekly stretching (perhaps to reach your front or middle splits) 8. Develop and improve core control (this helps with all aspects of dance) 9. Drill core body movements (such as isolating for body rolls, contra body movement, weight transfer) 10. Give a compliment to at least one other dancer every social (you get what you give, being positive about other’s dancing will have a more positive impact on yours!) The best way to achieve your new year goals is to narrow in on a particular aspect, write it down, and hold yourself accountable! Comment below and let us know what your dance goals are for this year? @ Brisbane, Queensland, Australia

13.01.2022 Missing this vibe Thinking back to the days we’d have big teams and fun partnerwork routines.... and somehow always amazing performance faces Who’d be keen to join our next fun Bachata routine?

11.01.2022 Bringing in the weekend with a flashback to this one Absolutely missing freestyle and the vibe it brings. This is Jake Hiscock and Kelsy Luengen placing third in the pro/am bachata freestyle at nationals. My favourite part is the sneaky transition from side of stage to in front of the judges.... Jake definitely has some nerve but executed it perfectly.... Goes to show having big energy and a little bit of calculated risk pays off, placing third overall! Can’t wait to get back to this kind of performance

08.01.2022 What a feeling to be social dancing again After filming one of our dance routines we decided to head out to Cloudland’s new Sunday night dance event organised by @jeanluclambs ... and boy did we dance up a storm! Perhaps feeling a little rusty after months of no social dancing, but it was great to see everyone again!... Next time you’re out make sure to grab the Sequins crew for a dance! Nothing but smiling faces and a good time from our lot @ Cloudland

08.01.2022 Caption this We like to have fun at Stepping in Sequins. We don’t take ourselves too seriously and we do it for the love of dancing. But every so often (probably quite regularly actually) we get caught in funny and compromising photos!... This one caught by @bicyclebob45 is no exception! So tell us, what’s going on here? Best caption of the events gets a big team hug!

07.01.2022 Do you like filming yourself dancing? One of the best ways to improve your dancing (and appreciate how far you’ve come) is to film yourself regularly. Personally, we love doing class videos every few weeks to show our students their progress. To look at how much difference a few weeks of classes can make. And to focus in on their progress... not to compare themselves to others in the class.... If you’re feeling like you’re stagnating, grab a camera, set up an little phone stand (we use books/shelves and a water bottle to prop up the phone) and film yourself. You might feel awkward, you might be super critical, but it’s a great way to better yourself as a dancer! Appreciate the dance journey

07.01.2022 Effective Warm Ups When warming up it’s super important to focus on all aspects of body. Your feet, ankles, legs, hips, abs, ribs, shoulders, arms, hands, neck.... get it all moving slowly and thoughtfully! We like to spend 5-10 minutes moving our bodies in different ways. Isolating specific parts. Creating drills or patterns. And going over the fundamental and basic steps.... Warming up properly allows you to work more effectively in class and can help body movement, such as contra body movement, to become muscle memory. If you feel like you’re stagnating in your dance think about adding more drills or focus on body movement in your warm up!

07.01.2022 Body movement that doesn’t disrupt partnerwork or leads We’ve always loved teaching body mechanics and effective body movement. We entered into 2020 hoping to teach and share this skill set at the festivals we attended. Styling in partnerwork isn’t about stealing the show, it’s about accentuating the movements or adding your own flare without disrupting the dance... and something leaders and followers can work on ... More to come in 2021! Dancers: Kelsy Luengen Odette Lawler April Tucker Lachlan Fraser Body suits: Jennifer Stafford-Bush Music: Me Gusra Un Tro - Imperio Nando

05.01.2022 Who’s your biggest support? We try to develop a culture where we can support each other. Push each other. And help each other. The biggest and often scariest step is trying something new. We might not get it right the first time... we might not even get it right the 100th time! But when we have a good support network around us, we can achieve amazing things!... So, who’s your biggest supporter of dancing?

03.01.2022 It started out as a joke.... But it was actually a lot of fun doing the WAP challenge We did it post dance class, so at 9pm after long days at work, and ended up with some pretty fantastic bruises ... We used the un-censored version, so apologies if it offends!

03.01.2022 If you don’t enjoy it, don’t do it! Here’s me doing a tech run for my @divasausnz workshop. I turned a shed (like a proper shed with tools and a tractor) into a mini dance studio for this workshop. Why? Because I love dancing. And more so, I love teaching and seeing others enjoy it!... Is this a perfect run? Nope, this was just playing around with the lighting, speakers and angles.... but you can see how much I enjoy it! You can see the cheeky smile throughout. Make sure you dance for you, not for others

02.01.2022 Dancing can change lives. We meet new people. We are afforded a form of escapism. We can find joy in something we like. Life can be tough, but it’s easier when you go through it together. We might be a small team, but we are a mighty supportive one

02.01.2022 Say hello to these bootyful women Their full dance video will be dropping next week... and we simply can’t wait to share it with you all! In the interim, gold star for anyone who can guess these amazing booties in the right order ... Location: @montaguemarkets Photographer: Bob Mcgahan Ladies in non specific order: Isobella Stone Odette Lawler Sarah JH April Tucker Pattricia Diaz Kelsy Luengen @rebecca Parnell

02.01.2022 Advanced Ladies Team Expressions of Interest This year we are setting ourselves new goals and pushing ourselves and our students even further! Starting soon, we’ll be organising an advanced ladies styling Bachata team, and we’re calling for expressions of interest from ladies who’d like to be part!... More details coming soon, but be prepared to drill and up skill your spins, styling, footwork, flexibility and performance attitude Dancers: Odette Lawler April Tucker Kelsy Luengen Videographer: Jake Hiscock

01.01.2022 Partner dancing, we sure do miss you! The joy it brings. The connections it creates. The skills it develops. We know social dancing like this is still a while away, but we look forward to partner classes starting back soon!... Who else is excited to start a partner choreography soon?

01.01.2022 Who else has Salsa as their first love? Planning out some fun new dance routines for the next month... and wanting to get back to Salsa! Love the rhythm, the musicality, the complexity and the body movement... Who’d be keen to join us for an upcoming challenging but fun Salsa routine?
