19.01.2022 'Sometimes it’s frustrating being an autistic person. Sometimes neurotypical friends and family members can have a hard time understanding me. I don’t blame them, they are not in my body, so they can’t feel what it’s like to have ears that are like microphones, and what it’s like to feel sick when I smell a certain scent (mashed potatoes for instance).'

03.01.2022 STEPS shone brightly at the Sunshine Coast Australia Day Awards 2021 held today at The Events Centre, Caloundra. Carmel Crouch (STEPS managing director) was awarded the prestigious title of Senior Citizen of the Year for her work helping young people with disabilities and their families. ‘STEPS is quite clearly a heart project for me. It’s an indescribable privilege to get to see young people with disabilities live their lives to the fullest. We’re really proud of our stude...nts and we’re really proud of our parents. I’m also incredibly proud of the team that actually help me do what I do, Carmel said. STEPS was also honoured with nominations for both the STEPS Pathways College and for a graduate of the College, Ariana Nioa. What a tribute! A HUGE and HEARTFELT ‘thank you’ to EVERYONE who contributes in some way to the work of STEPS and to Carmel’s dream of giving young people with disabilities a life of independence. Well done, Carmel - we are all very proud of YOU!
