23.01.2022 Not a bad morning

20.01.2022 Nice day out yesterday at SEG members day! Students Jade and Belinda placing equal first in Prep A on the exact same score of 66.842!! Jade also doing well in the Prep C with spunky little Molly, placing 2nd. Liesel rode consistent and nicely forward tests to 65% and 63% in the Prelims with 3rd and 4th placings. Well done Liesel for always showing up and working hard, the consistency is now starting to come away from home! Zac had his second competition and was well-behaved and did a sweet test in the Novice 2B, but unfortunately was feeling the heat and was a bit too flat for a good score. I retired him during the 2C as he just wasn’t feeling good (felt like my accelerator pedal fell off!) - hopefully just the heat, and next time in cooler weather he will be happier to bring the goods!

18.01.2022 Finding the counter canter loops really easy... then throwing in a very creative move past the mirrors #isthisahorseoraclown #ottb

18.01.2022 Some absolutely awful shots (video stills) of some quite good work! Starting to feel some sit in the canter now, a looooong way to go, but feel like we might be on the first rung of the ladder towards collection! No comps means we can introduce some more challenging questions without worrying too much if it gets a bit messy while we work it out #justkeepatit #ottb

13.01.2022 On the plus side, the trot is improving! Ran through the 3A for the first time today, and it’s all there, but needs a lot of polishing!

13.01.2022 The link below seems to be broken, but here is a beautiful article about Pedro Torres and his philosophy: https://baroquehorse.com.au/pedro-torres/

09.01.2022 Just when I think things have been going well A new trick from Zac’s very large bag of tricks Ps: I should definitely have been leaning forward but was caught off guard! Pps: He actually has been going really well, but was a bit fresh today!

08.01.2022 Some wonderful training sessions lately, Zac is starting to feel really on board with the work... then today couldn’t even do a decent walk-canter transition Got one each way in the end, but it was hard work! Still, very happy that he is more willing to stay calm and listen when I’m asking more difficult questions, instead of looking for an exit strategy!

07.01.2022 Zac has been lots of fun to train lately... learning about collection and he seems to be on board... mostly

07.01.2022 Playing around with this video program! Training is challenging at the moment, with a few rewarding moments in amongst a lot of let’s just tough this out feeling... I have to keep reminding myself that this time last year we could barely canter in the arena. Day by day...

05.01.2022 Food for thought...

04.01.2022 Little big Zac getting stronger and more consistent. Fantastic lesson with Emma Flavelle on Friday (as always!), getting his ribcage really around my inside leg and loosening up the lumbar area. Now I really need to step it up with my own core work too!

03.01.2022 Some video of work in progress. Here asking for Zac to keep shoulder-fore positioning in right canter, which he struggles with. A bit of resistance, then a few nice steps, then an evasion as it’s hard! Reinforcing by taking it into the trot. This is the hard side of training, when you just have to sit and quietly keep asking, and be satisfied with small improvements (which can be hard!)
