24.01.2022 Top Tip Tuesday UNCERTAINTY Uncertainty is the spice of life. Unfortunately, sometimes life over-seasons and it all gets a bit much ... With the world in its current state and this year being one extravagant shit-show after the next, we are all too rudely reminded that uncertainty is an inescapable and constant part of life. The bad news is that there is no easy-hack to eliminate uncertainty from our lives. But the good news is that there are ways we can learn to live with and relate to it even when its particularly challenging. Below are 3 suggestions that I have found that have helped guide me through the rocky terrain of uncertainty. 1. All things must pass. This now cliched and overused phrase is a useful reminder nothing lasts forever, however good or bad. Its simple truth is at once confronting and comforting we cant hold onto the good times, but we can be sure that the bad times wont hang around forever either. 2. Catch yourself out for catastrophising. I believe we all over-think, some more than others. One of the hallmarks of anxiety is that our minds tend to zero-in on the worst possible outcomes or worst-case scenarios. Our minds do this from a misguided sense of protectiveness because we are wired to attend more actively to negative stimuli, we think that ruminating over the worst outcomes will provide a sense of preparation and safety. Unfortunately this is rarely the case. Instead, when we catastrophise, we send our minds and bodies into Fight or Flight mode making it difficult to do, well, pretty much anything helpful. 3. Get clear on what you can control vs what you cant. In the face of uncertainty, it can also be helpful to develop a clear understanding of what is inside your control and outside of it. There are a lot of things in the world around us that can impact us sure. But we are also empowered to react and respond in positive, prepared and supportive ways. I hope these tips help you during these uncertain times. I dont want uncertainty to dominate our lives and creat fear. We will get through anything together! Much love Ash

18.01.2022 Why you SHOULDN'T skip CARDIO like our girl Ruby The truth is that Cardio is vital for building muscle If you’re a an endomorph (naturally heavier) than cardio is a must. But the same thing applies if you’re an ectomorph (hard gainer).... In the past it’s been a struggle for me to put on any type of weight or muscle. For some this would be a plus, but for me, it wasn’t so great. Always being stuck. But after countless trying I found a formula that worked. Enter Calorie expenditure Calories in- Calories out = Gains/weight loss This means that you must eat and you perform enough cardio toward your desired goal. Easy yeah For the longest time I believe the opposite. I thought the only way I could gain muscle was by completely neglecting Cardio. I was brainwashed into believing cardio would AFFECT MY GAINS. The amount and type of cardio you perform is the most important aspect to achieving your fitness goal. For me, I always wanted to put on lean muscle, strength, and while minimizing all fat. Cardio helps you build muscle by enhancing your recovery from weight training. It promotes blood flow and oxygen transport to your muscles. Cardio can improve general recovery, but too much of it can impair your recovery. It keeps body fat down when lean bulking. If you want to keep your body fat levels low, then it is imperative to follow some sort of cardio. Why? It increases oxidative enzymes, which break food down to release energy, and as a result use glycogen and fat as fuel. Your metabolism, raises after a session an effect called EPOC occurs. (Excess post-exercise oxygen consumption AKA the after burn effect). This effect speeds your metabolic rate for up to 48 hours after a complete your routine. This means you’ll still be burning fat even after you’ve left the gym. If you need help come and talk to one of our coaches and we will be happy to share our vast knowledge with you .

18.01.2022 Tip Tuesday Leg day!! Love it or hate it, here are 3 reasons why you shouldnt skip it. #1 - Skipping leg day makes it harder to build muscle.... According to some studies, training your lower body muscles can help speed up the release of growth hormones and testosterone because of the sheer size of the muscles. Leg day, therefore, helps to create an anabolic environment. In other words, an environment thats going to allow you to make some serious gains. #2 - Leg day is essential for a balanced physique Leg day might not be your favourite but spend all of your gym sessions building your upper body, and youre going to find that youre not only aesthetically uneven, but your muscular balance is way off. Leg day is therefore essential to get a balanced physique that can perform both in and outside the gym. #3 - Skipping leg day makes you more prone to injury As mentioned before, if youre skipping leg day then youre not going to be building balanced muscles. When you have some muscles that are significantly stronger than others, you are more likely to overcompensate during exercise, which can cause injury. Make sure that when you are doing a leg day, youre working all the different muscle groups (this goes for your upper body workouts as well). Keep your chest up, engage your abdominals, and shift your weight onto your heels as you push your hips back into a sitting position. 3. Lower your hips until your thighs are parallel or almost parallel to the floor. 4. You should feel the squat in your thighs and glutes. 5. Pause with your knees over, but not beyond, your toes. 6.
