24.01.2022 RAINFOREST RHYTHM... THAT was a long overdue forest immersion today. Fungi galore and many myxo plasmos on the move. Once our rain passes there will be an abundance of myxos fruiting...
22.01.2022 PHYSARUM PHRIDAY! This little duet popped up in my Slimarium overnight and I thought it was worth sharing... Can I guess at a Physarum Species...?? Can anybody add to that please? #bruxnerparkrainforest #supermacrophotography #myxomycete #slimemold #macrophotography #amihavingfunyet
21.01.2022 After a hard day toiling over gravels looking for opalised fossils, some of the Australian Opal Centre volunteers and crew spent time watching the sun slowly subside westward. Drinkies and designer nibbles were the order of the evening...
21.01.2022 ANOTHER GREAT SHOW LAST NIGHT. Returning back to my van after a great night out, this was my view looking East... At the Eromanga Natural History Museum. #stormchasing #eromanga #eromanganaturalhistorymuseum #lightningstorm #amihavingfunyet
21.01.2022 MY SLIMARIUM IS ON FIRE! This morning I checked it after not doing so for about three days. Ceratiomyxa fruticulosa, Arcyria cinerea, Stemonitis sp. x2, one I have no idea about that I will post next...and this lovely swarm of Clastoderma Sp. maybe C. debaryanum?? Any thoughts on this one please guys?? The central fruit is exactly 1mm tall and is 120 microns in diameter at the top. Quite a joy to be able to bring it to life in all its glory this afternoon!
20.01.2022 Found this really tiny plasmo in my Slimarium a few days back. The average width of the plasmo threads was around 170 microns (0.17mm). I took the first image because I found it such an incredibly delicate swarm. Within 12 hours it began to clump and then it only took another few hours before the fruits had formed. Finally the mature colours revealed themselves the next day. I am not sure if it a deep blue or indeed a grey black. In any case it has been an absolute pleasure recording this one... As usual I will be very grateful of some assistance with ID thoughts please... #Supermacrophotography #Myxomycetes #slimarium #slimemold #slimemould #amihavingfunyet
18.01.2022 Well that was a pretty spectacular show last night! Such a great way to end the week! Mother Nature doing what she does best!
17.01.2022 Had a new work experience student in today. I rabbited on about super macro photography as usual...but I'm not sure how keen he was to listen...???
17.01.2022 Always had to stop for a quick snap of these! I think they are so photogenic! These popped up in my Slimarium a couple of days back. So I have tried to record their growth through varying stages. Ceratiomyxa fruticulosa I just love those external spore masses! #supermacro #macrophotography #slimemold #slimemould #myxomycetes #ceratiomyxafruiticulosa #slimarium #amihavingfunyet
16.01.2022 Have been on other things for a few days and hadn't checked my SLIMARIUM. These sneaky little Cribrarias had popped up and I have missed their glorious younger stage, but nonetheless am delighted they have joined the community! I recall a massive patch of these occurring on very similar redgum timber up in Dorrigo at last years FORAY WITH FRIENDS. These ones grew on a similar piece of timber collected in Bruxner Park Rainforest. Am I right in thinking this is C. cancellata folks??
16.01.2022 Left my forests for a couple of days after continuous rain and went to one of my hot spots for a look see...3-4 Arcyria species, Lycogala sp., large swathes of Physarum Viride and Physarum Album, Stemonitis sp., Hemitricia calyculata, Cribraria sp, many plasmos active AND these two stunning Cordyceps! These were my favorites!!
15.01.2022 When I find a red Arcyria I automatically jump to the A denudata conclusion. This I did on my previous post (2nd image). The subsequent three flushes in my Slimarium are pink! In future I'll be more circumspect! Time for microscopy! Any thoughts on ID's please??
11.01.2022 These little Myxos popped up in my Slimarium. I am still not sure how I founds them as they are only 500 microns long. I did a quick calculation that makes the width of the caps down around 130 microns (0.13mm). I would love some help on ID please? I'll start the ball rolling by suggesting Clastoderma Species..??
10.01.2022 SMALL, SMALLER and SUPER-SMALL...! These popped up in my Slimarium yesterday afternoon. The 'large' fruit measure 1.4mm tall while the mid-sized fruit measure 700 microns (0.7mm) and the tiny black ones around about 140 microns (0.14mm) I am continually amazed at the size and overall diversity down there at the millimetre level!!. Any thoughts on ID will be very much appreciated please.. The big one maybe a Comatricha species?? The midsized one Clastoderma debaryanum maybe?? And for the tiny black ones...who knows??? #amihavingfunyet
07.01.2022 JUST A DENUDATA DAY...! A lovely little swarm of Arcyria denudata popped up in my Slimarium and I photographed its colour evolution over the ensuing 24 hours. Sadly these guys have stalled at the moment so I don't have any final stages. Also the springtails have stepped in and are munching down on some of the fruits! I have seen a new flush beginning so hopefully in a day or two I'll have mature fruits fully open...These studies utilise around 130 images of the 150 shot for each stack. #supermacrophotography #macrophotography #imagestacking #myxomycetes #slimemold #slimemould #arcyriadenudata #bruxnerparkrainforest #amihavingfunyet #slimarium
06.01.2022 BEEN A BIT QUIET on the fresh Myxo front of late! So I dug out a goodie from my collection. Found early this year at the inaugural Dorrigo Foray with Friends. This tiny little Cribraria species is still holding on to a mass of spores for prosperity! Love these delicate little bird cages. The caps on these are around the 750 micron diameter. So looking forward to next years event!! If anyone wants to join the group...just let me know!! https://www.facebook.com/groups/1553084334831480 #Myxomycetes #slimemould #slimemold #cribraria #Dorrigo #Lookoutmountainretreat #CovidShmovid #amihavingfunyet
04.01.2022 More of the fruits I posted last week called "GNARLY BUT NICE" have appeared in my Slimarium and it has given me a better opportunity to capture them very fresh and then aging. They are yet to break open but I will keep watch. I am thinking they might be Physarum bivalve... Any thoughts please???
04.01.2022 Thought I had found a very small Myxo growing on a leaf. These 2 images seem to point me in the direction of Ascos though. These would probably be the smallest I have photographed so far. They average 200 microns (0.2mm) across. I notice the one bottom left in the field view has that characteristic hollow cup evident in the centre.
03.01.2022 Is this Trichia decipiens or Hemitrichia calyculata...? This (and some others) has appeared in my Slimarium very recently. I have shot this single fruit over the last 6 days, although it was at its final stage a couple of days earlier. I know I have asked this question a couple of times before...but I just love the similarity that these two Myxo souls have! I have a leaning towards HC...but as usual I am entirely in the hands of the people who can add valuable commentary! Thanks in advance...! #Supermacrophotography #macrophotography #Slimemold #slimemould #Myxomycete #Bruxnerparkrainforest #amihavingfunyet #Bruxnerparkrainforest
03.01.2022 Found these in my Slimarium yesterday morning growing on a decaying pine needle. Very small with the elongated one coming in at around 800 microns (0.8mm). As usual I would be grateful of some help on ID please... Can I start with a guess at Physarum cinereum ...?? #slimarium #KororaNSW #myxomycetes #myxo #slimemold #slimemould #supremacrophotography #macrophotography #amihavingfunyet
02.01.2022 AWESOME AND SCARY DISPLAY last night out at the Eromanga Natural History Museum. Storms passing through literally all points of the compass at once! Very soon after this image it was time to get inside as the lightning was beginning to extend overhead. #eromangaqld #eromanganaturalhistorymuseum #stormchasing #lightningstorm #amihavingfunyet
01.01.2022 These popped up over night and I am fairly certain the plasmo responsible I photographed some six weeks back making its way over the same substrate... Love this...but I have no idea of who it is....Some help with ID as usual will be gratefully appreciated...
