20.01.2022 Congratulations to Tennant Creek High School student, Joel Verdillo. The ASX has announced our Year 11 student, Joel Verdillo as the champion for the Northern Territory after participating in the ASX Schools Sharemarket Game Season 2 held between 27 August and 4 November 2020. A total of seven teams from the Tennant Creek High School competed against 48 teams in the Northern Territory and 15,193 teams across Australia and New Zealand. ... Joel has done some amazing work and is now ranked 17th out of the 15,193 teams throughout Australia. The other Tennant Creek High School teams have also performed extremely well and are ranked 3rd, 9th, 10th and 16th out of the 48 teams in the Northern Territory. At today’s Assembly, Joel was presented with a Certificate and $400. Congratulations to all winners! - Steven Edgington



20.01.2022 Today, was a good opportunity to visit the Alekarenge School and congratulate the staff for doing such wonderful work for their community. In the Northern Territory, the Teaching in the Territory Excellence Awards are awarded annually on World Teacher’s Day (30 October) to many deserving recipients. This year the Alekarenge School performed exceptionally well in the Barkly region with three teachers winning awards.... The Northern Territory Aboriginal Educator of the Year winner was Leonie Dixon; The Northern Territory Primary Teacher of the Year winner was Charlee Leonard; and The Northern Territory Principal of the Year was Colin Kiel. Congratulations to each of the Award winners and thank-you to every teacher at the Alekarenge School for the work you have each delivered under difficult circumstances throughout 2020. - Steven Edgington

The Utopia Art Centre is a community-led initiative founded on a strong and culturally appropriate partnership between Desart, the Urapuntja Aboriginal Corporation and the Artists of Utopia. I look forward to catching up with Sophia Lunn who was recently appointed as Manager bringing a wealth of industry experience to this new position.... 18.01.2022 The $1.5 billion Ammaroo Phosphate Project that will create more than 1000 jobs and export opportunities has been given Major Project Status by the Australian Government. The Ammaroo Phosphate Project, located about 200km southeast of Tennant Creek, has been recognised for its strategic significance to Australia and will now receive extra support from the Australian Government Major Projects Facilitation Agency. The phosphate project is expected to create about 900 jobs durin...g construction and about 250 ongoing jobs when in full production and lead to the creation of a globally significant fertiliser manufacturing industry in the Northern Territory. 09.01.2022 It’s been a fantastic afternoon at the Manungurra Aboriginal Corporation Christmas Party. There was plenty of food and lots of families out enjoying their time together at the Tennant Creek Swimming Pool. Later in the afternoon Santa Clause made a surprise visit and handed out a variety of presents for the young ones and a large Christmas Cake to finish off a great day.... Thank-you to the Staff and Volunteers from Manungurra for arranging and delivering a terrific Christmas Party. - Steven Edgington

08.01.2022 Great catching up with a number of residents in Ali Curung this morning. While my good friend Mick (the Baker) Tsavaris was busy baking bread, his son Andrew, was out showing us his new vehicle which he uses to operate a Mobile Mechanical Service in Ali Curung and the Barkly region. We also met with Janey, Arana and Jerry and discussed a number of community issues including the progress of housing upgrades....
