23.01.2022 Solid upgrade on the PB Barra here - landed a 124cm Teemburra fish on BARRA Tour practice. Event is on Teemburra tonight, although there’s no coverage there, so don’t expect an epic live scoreboard session like we saw at Kinchant Dam yesterday. It ate a Shads Lures Jew candy with upgraded hooks on 20lb braid and 55lb leader.... Biggest Barra I’ve caught on the smallest lure in the tackle box. Full BARRA Tour coverage on www.abt.org.au
21.01.2022 Thinking about moving on some of my collectible Daiwa... or fishing them. Anyone see anything that they can’t live without?
19.01.2022 Day job nearly done for the year. Good to see that after a year of turmoil we're still printing the biggest possible magazine that can be saddle-stitched (stapled) - just like we have always done. There have been some readers very upset that we're not doing business-as-usual with all of the four state magazines, even if that was to mean that we'd have gone broke after a 70% advertising drop on April when COVID hit. But to the 90+% of happy readers, thank you for your support ...this year! Also a big thanks to Matthew Drinkall, Peter Jung, Nicole Kelly, Nicole Penfold and Jacqui Thomas for riding the wave this year. And to Marie and Kym for keeping the office going - albeit from your respective homes. Bring on the BARRA Tour!
15.01.2022 Barra love the A-Rigs.... Interesting! And before the warriors jump in - it’s a one-hook rig that’s well clear of the border of Queensland Freshwater Fishing guidelines. The other hooks are cut off. Crikey they belt it, though!
15.01.2022 By no means am I a barra expert, but I’d like to share some bait choices that help us to well over 30 fish during the BARRA Tour. 1. Samaki Redic jerkbait (100mm). This caught at Kinchant and Faust along weedbed edges. Wind it down and twitch with reasonably long pauses. It comes with awesome BKK hooks that are perfect straight out of the box. We used the one set the whole trip. 1. Duo Australia 100mm jerkbait. This is one of the truest running jerkbaits I’ve ever used. You c...an’t twitch it too hard, and they like it twitched hard. This caught at Kinchant and Teemburra. Factory hooks are great - but not for barra- I swapped them out to some stainless BKK Hooks Australia in the open and to a bigger BKK on the middle hanger without a rear hook in the tight country. 3. Shads Lures Jew Candy (30g). Only landed one Barra this trip on it .... but it was 124cm. Same bait I caught a 110cm barra on in the Brisbane River a few years ago. 4. The crowd favourite, 130mm black/gold Squidgy Slick rig. Throw out the factory jighead and replace with a Tackle Tactics 1oz Gamakatsu replacement head and a proper treble (often a BKK or Decoy YS-81). Boil the body to soften it, score the tail to make it more flexible and dip the tail in garlic chartreuse. They look nothing like the original but they still catch. 5. Japan specials bin Alabama rig. This caught in Kinchant and Teemburra - even with the one hook as per Queensland Fisheries regulation. I’d like more time to experiment with these in non-tournament conditions. It’s sufficiently different to attract their attention! I need to get better on the Fish Traps and Flat Shads - they’re still not my confidence baits but you can’t argue with their results. Other tips - fish with a locked drag. It’ll help you set the hooks and with 30lb braid and 55lb leader you won’t get busted. And you’ll find that the drag isn’t really locked after all.... you can back it off when the hooks are in. I’m still pretty low on the barra learning curve .... but it’s a fun journey.
14.01.2022 Seems plenty are interested in reels. Here's pricing (delivered within Australia) since nobody made any actual offers. 103M SOLD pending payment. Ize SOLD pending payment. boxed pink 103 SOLD.... The pink 103 with box is mint. Pink without box some tiny marks. Ringa is used with small marks. 103M is used but cosmetically amazing (considering I used it) and 2506 has some small marks and a sticker missing from handle cover. Can provide detailed pics to serious buyers.
13.01.2022 Looks like I’m fishing the BARRA Tour with Carl Jocumsen this year.
13.01.2022 With these turning up in stores this week, it might help you simplify things a little.
11.01.2022 Think there's not many fish on your local rock bar? This Garmin Marine LiveScope recording shows a big fish in its favourite spot. What species of you fish does it look like to you? Brisbane-based recording - not from the BARRA Tour! Watch how they react when you hit them with your lures....
10.01.2022 Site is now live to buy Hydrowave, Kong and YoloTec poles. http://tournamentboats.com.au/boat-accessories/
09.01.2022 Am I the only one that sees a yabby in this image? In related news, ABT runs COVID-Safe events!
09.01.2022 Faust practice done. Nice to not donut for a change!
09.01.2022 That time I was smart enough to screenshot the time we were nearly leading a BARRA event!
08.01.2022 Found some pics from early testing of the new Fat Jacks. Timmy would send samples with all variations of beads and we’d try to find the one that caught best. Early 2020.
05.01.2022 A couple of years old now, but there's never a shortage of takers for the lead role.
03.01.2022 Definitely not enough of these around this year. Still haven’t landed a $1. This one was 98.
02.01.2022 Got me Garmin flavored Cool Foot from Minn Repairs & Servicing.
