23.01.2022 National Threatened Species Day is commemorated across the country on 7 September to raise awareness of plants and animals at risk of extinction. Australia is h...ome to more than 500,000 animal and plant species, many of which are found nowhere else in the world. Carnaby's black cockatoos' nests in Eucalyptus hollows situated high in trees. With much of its habitat lost to land clearing and development and threatened by further habitat destruction, Carnaby's black cockatoos are listed as an endangered species by the Federal and Western Australian governments. It is also classified as endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). This family group from its northernmost distribution at Kalbarri National Park is a rare sighting, undoubtedly rare in terms of being able to approach the birds as a group. #endangeredbirds #australianbirds #birds

09.01.2022 THE ART OF CROPPING ‘If the content of your life is not integral to your Creative Life Purpose, then crop it out!’ - Steve Parish We all know that when we photo-compose and or crop post-capture that our images are enhanced. Yet removing/deleting - those elements that are not conducive to us living our full creative life potential remain one of the most ‘hard-to-get-around-to-doing’ life challenges. Wrong job, wrong partner, wrong place to live, wrong friends, wrong, wrong, ...wrong. Finally, when we sharpen our cropping tools and take action, we soon discover that we should have acted a whole lot sooner. Remember our creative life purpose should not be seen as separate from our everyday life situations. Our real-life purpose can only be fulfilled when body, mind and spirit are in balance. 09.01.2022 SEEK SOLITUDE & STILLNESS IN WILD PLACES ‘When I amcompletely myself, entirely alone it is on such occasions that my ideas ow best and most abundantly.’ Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, composer... Being alone in wild places where our senses are more inclined to enter a meditative state can be just the catalyst we need to fuel creative thought and also calm any harboured anxiety. As time passes, we soon find we begin to see, hear, smell and feel things that otherwise might have gone unnoticed. A heightened sense of awe results as our heart connects with our surroundings. For me, the heightened clarity of thought can become awe-inspiring. The trick, of course, is to retain this clarity and not allow resistance to creep back in as we return home to the familiar - no backsliding! 06.01.2022 'Learn to embrace self-doubts, to see them merely as expressions of your resistance to following dreams, as stories concocted by the mind.' Steve Parish... When we look at the contribution our innate fears can play to as we follow our creative life purpose, we need to perhaps look at self-doubt through a different lens. So what are the fears we harbour? No time, no money, no real talent, there's too much competition and anyway I don't have the technical skills for cameras and computers; these and a whole lot more are the stories that build resistance to fulfilling our dreams. We can always find something for our mind stories to feed on, to garnish the strength it needs to block our pathway forward. The human mind can be very devious preying on self-doubts creating story after story, told and retold until we can no longer recognise 'reality'. Left unchallenged our resistant behaviours can become constant anxiety which can grow into a deep seemingly incurable sadness. However, the good news is that our creative life purpose can act as a signpost, as a guide, a trusted friend we can revisit time and again. Take a look at who and what you are listening to; remember the world feeds on fears. Learn to be discerning about what/who you listen to and dissipate those fears. You cannot give up, keep on regaining your positive spirit. Want more? Join me on my Online Photography: A Pathway To Purpose Masterclass. 06.01.2022 TASMANIA, A RICH EUROPEAN CULTURAL HERITAGE Photographing architecture, artefacts, artworks, bridges, transport devices like riverboats, carriages, wagons and l...et's not forget Australia's penal history with many gaols preserved as museums dotted around the country, can be a lifetime commitment. These often colourful images can be adapted as enhanced artworks through the digital darkroom as creative wall art. While subjects can be found in any town across Australia, Tasmania has a particularly well preserved and managed array of subjects. One of the six modules in my Masterclass covers some of the many techniques that can be applied in the digital darkroom for creating digital art. . 05.01.2022 CREATIVE COMFORT: CREATIVE DEATH 'Dwell not on what frustrates, but on what potential lies ahead. Worry not on what was maybe considered a failure, but what bountiful opportunity lies ahead.' Steve Parish... To feel deeply, to explore new creative expressions, sometimes we must unshackle ourselves from self-imposed restraints. Stepping outside of our comfort zones and taking financial, physical, emotional, creative and time investment risks are essential for giving flight to our creative soul. This might require making small, or even significant, life changes. My most memorable creative adventure began after we lost everything in the 2011 Brisbane floods. That single event snapped me out of a 30-year life-pattern and led to a heightened artistic vision beyond what I could have ever imagined. If I had remained in a state of 'poor me' I would have retained the intense anxiety I was experiencing, and over time my passion would have faded. They must take every opportunity to breed, rest and feed to successfully contribute to the continuation of their species. If these creatures were to take an easier path, there would be no Cairns birdwing butterflies. 05.01.2022 IN AWE ‘The most beautiful experience we can have is the mysterious. Whoever does not know it and can no longer wonder, no longer marvel is as good as dead, and his eyes are dimmed.’ Albert Einstein An overwhelming feeling of reverence and admiration lies at the very heart of what we are passionate about. When in a state of awe we release a powerful stimulant that will heighten our sense...s. It is a direct emotional connection with the source of our creative life purpose. Could be the human form, the birthing process of a human child, a track athlete mid-air or the multitudinous array of wonders of the natural world, the content is irrelevant. Awe lies at the very heart of whatever it is that drives us to create. Your expression of awe in photography promotes your love affair with your subjects. How artfully we create determines how swiftly and deeply we move the emotions of our viewers to feel the same sense of connectedness, or loving-kindness, towards images we display. Awe lives alongside joy, one cannot be fully realised without the other. Only when you are joyful, inspired, and appreciative of the majesty of your subjects, can you genuinely capture their essence? I best capture awe when I’m connected to nature and can see the natural world through the lens of imagination while I am 'present' in the moment. In springtime, in fields of colourful flowers swaying in the breeze, I breathe in the perfume of a thousand flowers, and I capture awe. Let’s go there and play!
