25.01.2022 Please return your enrolment packages! In these uncertain times of progressive shutdowns, we are concerned that in the near future you may not be able to return your enrolment application to College Reception. Please dont leave it until the last day (April 9). We have deployed extra staff in our office to handle the return of enrolment today. Thank you to the hundreds of families who have already submitted their application.

23.01.2022 Bunnings Warehouse came to visit SFCC this week to help us learn about different herbs and veggies and how to look after our gardens. From reading the instructions on the tags to mulching and fertilising the gardens.. it was all happening! Some of the plants that we now have include snow peas, rosemary, thyme, carrots, squash, cucumber, zucchini, tomatoes, leek, chilli, lettuce, spinach, basil, rhubarb and sage. The students in the SEALS committee aspire to have a monthly he...rb & veggie stall where any students, teachers and families can purchase herbs and veggies for a gold coin donation. Stay posted for our next stall in the coming weeks. A big thank you to Ashley and Antonia from Bunnings Warehouse Crossroads for taking the time to help us establish our new and improved gardens in addition to supplying SFCC with new gardening supplies. Thanks to Miss Cox for organising the Bunnings visit and thanks to Mrs Dalli for sharing her love of gardening with the SEALS Committee.

22.01.2022 A wonderful result for St Francis in the Diocesan Christmas Story Art Competition. On Wednesday evening Miss Cox and I had the pleasure of attending the Diocesan Christmas Story Art Competition. For those who are new to this, Year 5 & 6 students create artworks and provide a written reflection on their work, to tell the true story of Christmas. From this collection of work each school nominates up to 3 works from each year group and send the artworks to Wollongong for judgin...g. This year the Diocese received 175 artworks and the judges selected 54 to be hung on display in the Wollongong Art Gallery. Of the 6 students nominated, 5 were chosen for display. Congratulations to Ilya C, Olivia A, Abbey T, Adian N & Nikolas K. Of the 54 displayed, 17 were chosen to go to the Grand Hall at the Uni of Notre Dame in Sydney where they will be displayed with the best works from the Dio of Sydney & Bathurst. Olivia A, Abbey T, Adian N, Nikolas K were all chosen to go through to the Sydney competition. 4 Major Awards were judged from the 17 finalists. The Catholic Care Hope Award went to a student from the Illawarra. The Directors Award went to Abbey T. Her artwork will also now feature on the Director Peter Turners Christmas cards. The Bishops Award went to Olivia A. Her artwork will now feature on the Bishop Christmas cards. The Student Choice Award (judged by the 54 students who had works hung at the Wollongong Gallery) went to Olivia A. SFCC took out 3 of the 4 major awards which was a fantastic effort! My sincere thanks to Miss Cox, Mrs Vaga and Miss Cusack who lead the work with the students. Thanks to the families for their support & attendance. An awesome effort!

09.01.2022 Over the past couple of years many parents and students have commented favourably when viewing our architects 3D Walk Through concept design for St Francis which has been available on our website. Tonight, we are very pleased to present a new walk through that accurately depicts what St Francis Catholic College will look like in the near future now that the vast majority of our buildings have been designed and planned. 09.01.2022 Year 7 Camp: Day One: The Year Seven cohort ventured to Wedderburn Christian Campsite in a very excited manner, as they embarked on a pivotal part of their Pastoral Care program. The rain stayed away and all activities got underway with groups participating in abseiling, flying fox, giant swing, laser tag and rock climbing. Day One also saw the students begin creating their house group banners and participate in evening activities with Mr. Abernethy where he spoke with them a...bout the origins and foundation of the College and what it means to be a student at St. Francis Catholic College. Day Two: The weather set the scene for another wonderful day for the Year Seven cohort. The groups continued with their rotations, completing all activities by the days end. This evening the students will complete their house group banners and participate in a campfire and evening liturgy. The students of Year Seven have showed courage and bravery completing challenging activities, but have most importantly showed respect, kindness and encouragement to one another, and represented the College extremely well! 04.01.2022 The COUNTDOWN is on - ONLY 367 more trees to Go!! SFCC has its own micro-forest located south of Wagga Wagga in western NSW. This is a fundraising initiative organised by our SEALS group (St Francis Environmental Awareness Learning Society) with the WOODiWILD Organisation. Over the next decade, WOODiWILDs goal is to re-plant 1 million trees on farms across Australia with the help of Australian schools. These trees will provide a habitat for our threatened wildlife and help ...to address climate change. The planting of a tree costs $10, and $2 of this is given to the College. Our target is 400 trees which will see a return of $800 to develop a better waste management system at the college and spruce up the herb and veggie gardens. To get a tree in the SFCC Forest go to https://woodiwild.org/st-francis-catholic-college-edmondso/. You will be asked to name the tree and will receive a unique map reference for you to see, and follow, the growth of the tree. We hope you will get involved and purchase a tree in the SFCC Forest! The count down has started.

04.01.2022 National Tree Day- Help Us Reach Our Target Did you know : Australia has the worst mammal extinction rate in the world with 30 native mammals becoming extinct since European settlement.... More than 1,700 species of animals and plants are currently listed by the Australian Government as being at risk of extinction. This is due mainly to the loss of habitat through clearing of vegetation. National Tree Day is the 31st July 2020. Catastrophic bushfires earlier this year wiped out Australian wildlife and their habitats. In 2019, our SEALS (St Francis Environmental Learning Society) Committee teamed up with WOODiWiLD to establish the SFCC micro-forest in Aussie farmland. The SFCC micro-forest is located just outside of Wagga Wagga supporting the regeneration of trees in our local environment. All you need to do is purchase a tree for $10 and our school will receive $2 for every tree purchased in the SFCC Forest. Click here to help! https://woodiwild.org/st-francis-catholic-college-edmondso/ Over the next decade, WOODiWILDs goal is to re-plant 1 million trees on farms across Australia with the help of Australian schools. These trees will provide a habitat for our threatened wildlife and help to address climate change. You will be asked to name the tree and will receive a unique map reference for you to see, and follow, the growth of the tree. We hope you will get involved and purchase a tree in the SFCC Forest! We set our target to 400 in 2019 and are hoping our forest grows even closer to that total in 2020. The COUNTDOWN is on! ONLY 304 trees to go!

03.01.2022 The Staff of St Francis, celebrated Autism Awareness Week by dressing in blue today. Some of the staff put on a special blue dance routine. The performance is pretty ordinary but the bloopers are hilarious thanks to some dubious editing which makes the most of out of context conversation. Thanks to staff who participated and are prepared to have a laugh at themselves to raise awareness of Autism. Wishing everyone a peaceful and safe Easter. Enjoy time with your families.
