16.01.2022 Written by Jean-Baptiste Lully exactly 350 years ago as incidental music to Moliere's play, this suite was arranged for brass quintet by James Moule. It has been used in contests by several groups from St.George Brass Band, most recently in the Musica Viva chamber music competition "Strike a Chord". This group of junior high school students was awarded the Brass Ensemble prize for New South Wales and shared a $200 cash prize.

12.01.2022 Great effort from so many members to support such an ambitious carolling schedule. Donations exceeded $5618, far more than expected and more than we have ever collected. Meanwhile, buskers are complaining that people don't have cash anymore. (They're just not cute enough!)

10.01.2022 Excellent Alex & Leo!

10.01.2022 Bravo Leo, Nathan & Alex!

07.01.2022 LEO ROARS ONTO THE INTERNATIONAL STAGE St.George Brass Band tuba player, Leo Huang of Oatley, has extended his success to an international competition. Aged 12, Leo won the NSW Championships at both Under 15 and Under 19 categories in both 2019 and 2020. More recently, he entered a major competition in China with a title that translates as "Wind Music Online Competition of China Orchestra Platform". He chose to play a difficult tuba concerto by Ralph Vaughan Williams.... There were 29 entries in the Under 16 Tuba section, most of them older than Leo. There were two video rounds and Leo was placed 1st in both rounds by the 12 orchestral tuba player adjudicators. The prize and trophy will be shipped from China in the coming weeks. Leo began learning brass at Oatley West Public School before joining St.George Brass Band and having lessons from James Moule. He won a Music Scholarship to Sydney Grammar School where he is in Year 7. Last year, he received a Distinction at 8th Grade AMEB Orchestral Tuba. Leo learns trombone from Warwick Tyrrell and also plays piano. Leo is one of 12 St.George Brass members who have entered the Victorian State Solo and Ensemble Championships. Yet another on-line competition, results should be known on 27th September. See more
