19.01.2022 "It is more blessed to give than to receive." (Acts 20:35). Today our Church celebrates the 106 th anniversary of the departure of Saint Abraam, the Bishop of Fayoum! 1. Born Boulos (Paul) to righteous Christian parents in Mallawi in Upper Egypt.... 2. He was ordained a monk by the same name at the age of 19 in El-Muharraq monastery. 3. He was later ordained a priest, then became Abbot of the monastery. 4. In 1881 AD, Pope Kyrillos V (112) chose him to be Bishop over the diocese of Fayoum and Giza. 5. He was named Abraam, which is derived from Abraham, the father of fathers. 6. He was renowned for three virtues: a) Charity and tremendous generosity towards the poor, regardless of their religion, to the extent that many sought shelter in his residence and he insisted that they would be hosted warmly and where possible meet their basic needs. St Abraam laid for himself treasures in heaven Its often said that when you take you fill your hands but when you give you fill your heart b) His contentment and asceticism, as he lived a very simple life with the bare necessities in food and clothing. c) His prayer of faith whereby many miracles in Egypt and abroad occurred through his prayers before and after his departure. 7. Anba Abraam prayed the 150 Psalms daily and read the Bible every 40 days!! May the life, character and ministry of Anba Abraam inspire and motivate us to love, care and give to the poor, needy, neglected, widows, orphans with a generous spirit. "God loves a cheerful giver." (2 Corinthian 9:6). Its often said that when God bless you materially do not raise your standard of living rather raise your standard of giving

19.01.2022 The Feast of the Apostles Today we celebrate the Feast of the Apostles in which we commemorate the martyrdom of Saints Peter and Paul. We are immensely indebted to our holy Fathers and teachers the Apostles. 1. The Apostles = Preached the Word of God. The Apostles preached and witnessed to the Risen Lord in the Temple (Acts 17), in homes (Acts 20:7) and (Acts 18:7), in market places (Acts 17:17-19), in prisons (Acts 16:23-34), by the riverside (Acts 16:13). 18.01.2022 Today the Church celebrates the departure of Saint Augustine, the "Son of tears." 1. He was born in 354 AD in the city of Thagaste (modern day Algeria) of a holy and devout Christian mother, Saint Monica, and a pagan father, Patricius, who converted to Christianity on his deathbed. 2. His mother was the central figure in his upbringing, but he initially lost his way, following pagan beliefs. As evil company corrupts good habits, Saint Augustine started leading a life of impur...ity, including having a son, Adeodatus. 3. After teaching Latin and philosophy in North Africa, he moved to Milan where he continued to teach in a prestigious position. Saint Monica followed him there and pleaded with tears to the Lord and to Saint Ambrose, the Bishop of Milan, to accept her son, who later became fond of Saint Ambroses speaking style before being captivated by its content. 4. At the age of 31, Saint Augustine converted to Christianity with his mothers tears bearing fruit, and she departed not long thereafter. 5. He heard an internal voice, "Take up and read." He obeyed it and was so moved by Saint Pauls epistle to the Romans, esp 13:13-14 that he returned home, sold the family possessions and distributed the money to the poor, except for the family home, which he converted to a monastery. Thus following in the footsteps of his beloved patron saint, Saint Anthony. 6. He was later ordained a priest then Bishop of Hippo in 396 AD, where he dedicated himself to serve his flock faithfully until he departed after a brief period of illness at the age of 75. 7. His major works include classic writings: Confessions of Saint Augustine, City of God, On the Trinity and On Christian Doctrine as well as over 350 preserved authentic sermons. 8.Some of St Augustine famous quotes include : *Our souls are restless until they find their rest in thee *God who created you without your will cannot save you without your own will *Faith is to believe what you do not yet see , the rearward of faith is to see what you believe *The Christian is a mind through which Christ thinks , a heart through which Christ loves , a voice through which Christ speaks , a hand through which Christ helps *If you believe what you like in the Gospels and reject what you do not like it is not the Gospel you believe in but yourself *If you are silent be silent out of love , if you speak speak out of love *What does love look like ? It has the hands to help others , it has the feet to hasten to the poor and needy , it has the eyes to see misery and want , it has the ears to hear the sighs of sorrow of people *To fall in love with God is the greatest romance , to seek Him is the greatest adventure to find him is the greatest achievement May the life and example of this repentant Church scholar inspire us to imitate him as he imitated our Lord Christ. Amen.

17.01.2022 Fasting is neither a negative abstention from food, nor a changing in the timing and types of food intake. But rather, it is obedience to the commandment in order to have a deeper relationship with Christ who fasted. Just as we sinned in Adam when he ate from the forbidden fruit, so we are justified in Christ when He fasted (For us) on the mountain. H.G.Bishop Anba Raphael

14.01.2022 Today is The 6th Sunday of Lent .... Baptism Sunday, the miracle of the healing of the man born blind. In this Gospel the man born blind says: "One thing I know, I was blind and now I can see." (John 9:25). Today we run to Christ our lord and say the following : ... 1. I was blind ... I focused on pleasing people and receiving validation from them rather than pleasing You Christ my Saviour 2. I was blind ... I focused on peoples mistakes and amplified them rather than highlighting peoples potential 3. I was blind ... I focused on all the outer aspects of spiritual journey rather than the inner aspects 4. I was blind .... I focused on instant self gratification rather than being selfless and giving. 5. I was blind .... I focused on being opinionated rather than being receptive and respectful to other peoples views. 6. I was blind ... perceiving that taking short cuts was intelligence, leading to indifference rather than having faithfulness and integrity. 7. I was blind .....I was opportunistic when circumstances presented themselves, now I know that abiding by Christian principles and values is more rewarding. Thus, we say with David : "Enlighten my eyes lest I sleep the sleep of death" (Psalm 13:3-4). In your light we see light ( psalm 36:9) Christ our lord the a true light enlighten my heart, my mind ,my conscience that I may walk in the light daily (John 12:35) May God bless you all !! 13.01.2022 Who is the Holy Spirit? The Holy Spirit is God (Ephesians 4:30; 2 Corinthians 3:3), not some force or activity. 08.01.2022 +The Feast Of The Transfiguration Of Christ on mount Tabor + He led them up to the mountain and showed them his Kingship before His passion and His power before His dearth and his glory before his disgrace and honour before His dishonour so that when He was arrested and crucified by the Jews, they might know that He was not crucified through weakness but willingly by His good pleasure for the salvation of the world.... +St Ephraim The Syrian Moses and Elijah appeared beside him so that they might know that he was Lord of the prophets. He transformed his face on the mountain before he died, so that they would not be in doubt concerning the transformation of his face after his death. He changed the garments which he was wearing so that they might know that it is also he who will raise to life the body with which he was clothed. He, who gave his body a glory that no one can reach, is able to raise it to life from the death that everyone tastes. +St Ephraim the Syrian

03.01.2022 *What does Christmas Mean?* Once a servant was visiting a poor area and preaching its residents, when suddenly a poor woman interrupted him and said, Sir, it is very easy to come to us here and talk about the love of Christ and His salvation, then to leave us and go to your luxurious and comfortable house. But are you ready to leave your beautiful house and your rich area and come to dwell among us here to help us better? The servant thought a second and answered, Frankly,... NO I admit that I cannot do that and I think that your request is exaggerated too much! But there is only One Person who could do much more than that million times. The Lord of Glory, Jesus Christ, the Son of God who is worshiped by the Angels had sacrificed heaven with its glory that surpasses all understanding and came to our poor, cursed and polluted world and was born on our earth 2000 years ago as the poorest child. He spent 33 years among us healing our sick, feeding our hungry, raising the dead, blessing the children and forgiving the adulterers and sinners, even those who crucified Him! He emptied Himself from His original glory, made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a servant and humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross (Phil. 2:5-11). Without controversy, great is the mystery, Godliness; God was manifested in the flesh (1 Tim 3:16). Jesus Christ, the Word of God has become flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth (John 1:14). In Him, we have seen God in His infinite love, mercy, kindness, wisdom, power, holiness and perfection. He was please and not ashamed to call Himself, the Son of Man and Emmanuel which mans God with us. His last words on our earth were, I Am with you always, even to the end of the age (Matt. 28:20). He loved the poor and shared their poverty and became one of them to enrich them, for you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich (2 Cor. 8:9). He loved the sinners and came to save them and redeem them by His own precious blood that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life as a free gift. Long ago, Isaiah the prophet urged Him saying, Oh, that You would rend the heavens! That You would come down! (Isa 64:1). And Jesus Christ accepted this request and came down from heaven for you and me, but the people did not believe Him or accept Him and crucified Him. Christmas means, that we have seen God in Christ, and have enjoyed His unlimited love, kindness, forgiveness, riches and salvation.
