19.01.2022 In a cat's eye, all things belong to cats... Cats can be very independent and living with a cat can be very different to living with other pets. The reason for... a 'Cat' topic right now is... We have numerous tenants who have cats and numerous tenants who wish to obtain a cat for their new pet at their rental property. In a rental situation any pet can be challenging and or not ideal. I am not against pets and pets are a much loved family member in a large number of families and we understand this love. However when it comes to rental situations - some properties are not suitable for pets. Landlords may not approve of pets for many reasons. Back to cats... It is often not thought about but a large percentage of peolpe are allergic/have allergies due to cats. Now this can cause some very difficult issues for a landlord after a tenancy which has approved a cat on the premises. Cats are quite independant pets and we all know cats are mostly indoor types of pets. Information to consider when wishing to obtain a cat... 'In the case of cat allergies, allergens can come from your cats dander (dead skin), fur, saliva, and even their urine. Breathing in pet dander or coming into contact with these allergens can cause an allergic reaction. Pet allergen particles can be carried on clothes, circulate in the air, settle in furniture and bedding, and stay behind in the environment carried on dust particles'. After exit inspections, we have at times had issues with cat fur and or allergens causing serious issues for incoming tenants. It can be very serious for a new tenant after a cat has been present at a property previous to their tenancy. I urge all tenants requesting to obtain a cat and all landlords to consider the effects of a cat and the future for their rental property or tenancy. Apart from allergies we must remember that cats as stated above are very independant and have a mind of their own. They can tend to visit neighbours and or the neighbourhood this may not be invited or appreciated by your neighbours.
