25.01.2022 Today we acknowledged our wonderful Principal Mrs Martin. Thank you for all that you do for the students, staff and families of SGM. Thank you to the students who made cards for Mrs Martin, she was very surprised! What a great school community we have at SGM.



25.01.2022 This week SGM Year 5 and 6 students had visits from students and staff at St Monicas College, Cairns, St Augustines College and MacKillop Catholic College, Mount Peter. Our students are lucky to have so many options for High Schools in Cairns. They were given some valuable information about what each High School has to offer and even received gift bags with goodies.

22.01.2022 Bilan Gudan Today SGM celebrates NAIDOC Day. Mrs Christian has organised some amazing activities and we would like to thank her for her hard work and dedication to making this day a great celebration of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and people.

21.01.2022 SGM was well represented at the Peninsula Girls Hockey trials on Wednesday with 7 students playing for the TCS team. The girls had a great day, winning 2 out of their 3 games. Well done to Madi, Kyla and Ruby who were selected to play in the Possibles vs Probables game and congratulations to Madi who was then selected in the Peninsula team! Their coach commended the girls on their sportsmanship and behaviour - a true display of the SGM Way!



21.01.2022 Garden Club The Garden Club have been busy little bees this week collecting all the seeds from the sunflowers and bagging them up to share with our school community. We've watched the full cycle from seed to back to seed! The Garden Club children have worked incredibly hard this year and we are so proud of their sense of community in helping to bring colour to our school gardens.

21.01.2022 This week we acknowledge Mental Health Week and our beautiful Year 4 students provided relaxing hand massages to the staff. Thank you for this lovely gesture.

19.01.2022 Our Garden Club started a Kitchen Garden for our Tuckshop today using recycled materials and seedlings for fresh veges and herbs.

18.01.2022 St Gerard Majella was extremely lucky to be one of only two schools in Cairns to have a visit from the ANZ Tennis Hot Shots Racquet Roadshow. Tennis Queensland brought Australian tennis champions John Millman, JP Smith and Lizette Cabrera to our school to present tennis racquets to our Prep students. There was also time for questions and a hit of tennis with our Year 5 and 6 students. Thank you to ANZ and Tennis Queensland for the tennis racquets and this amazing surprise for our students. Thank you to our tennis coach Fred Lay and HPE teacher Mrs Lay for organising this for us. How lucky are we!!!

Demonstrate a commitment to our Catholic faith. These awards were presented as part of our Catholic Education Week Liturgy this morning. Well Done!

14.01.2022 National Simultaneous Storytime with a difference! Mrs Hofman and her special guests treated us to a Zoom performance of Whitney and Britney Chicken Divas written by Lucinda Gifford. The fun continued with our Chicken Divas entertaining us with a lunchtime dance.

Chris has written a number of childrens picture books, including A Bug called Doug, Chooks in Space, Mission Incrocible and Funky Chicken, many of which we have in the SGM Library. Our students are enjoying a presentation including storytelling, puppets, video slideshows, singing and dancing!

04.01.2022 On Tuesday SGM was represented by 19 students who participated in the inaugural Cross Country Championships held at St Marys. We were up against all Catholic schools from Tully to Clifton Beach. Overall SGM came 2nd in the Primary school division. Louise in 10 years girls came 1st and Charlie in the 10 years boys came 2nd. All students ran well and represented SGM showing great respect and positivity.

02.01.2022 SGM Community Show Today we held our SGM Community show and it was a great success. Well done to all students who entered. The Cairns Show Association volunteer judges were very impressed with the level of creativity our students showed. Congratulations to all involved!

01.01.2022 As a group assessment for their HASS remote learning, our Year 5 students constructed weather stations. The stations were rain gauges, pressure gauges, wind anemometers, and wind direction gauges. It was a fantastic effort by all.
