25.01.2022 Is your lawn experiencing browning, yellowing or just simply unsightly bare spots? This could be due to soil quality and pH levels. Not to worry though, these issues can be easily rectified before the weekend is through! There is a simple test you can easily carry out with odd bits from around the house which include a jar, water and a few squirts of dish liquid. Step 1 - Dig a section 6 inches into the top soil. If concerned about more than one area in your lawn it would be ...suggested to repeat this on more than one site. Step 2 - Fill the jar with the sample halfway and fill the rest with water, adding 2-3 drops of dish liquid. Step 3 - Allow for the test to settle which should take about 12 hours or until they settle in all of their sedimentary levels. This will give you a visualization of the characteristics of your soil. In addition with this diagram, top notch quality soil is easily achievable and being the envy of neighbors is a very real possibility! Remember to keep us in mind for any fertilizer, sand, soil or any other material supplies!

23.01.2022 Winter Grass If you're unaware of winter grass it is a bright, light green grass with fine leaves that infests lawns throughout winter. Apart from the unsightly appearance, winter grass will continue to spread and cause damage to a lawn for as long as it remains untreated. The root system of Wintergrass is a mass of very fine, white, spider web like roots that can easily invade and choke out the root system of a lawn. Even when the Wintergrass is not evident throughout most... of the year, its root system continues to deprive lawns of space to set down its own roots, causing the lawn to continue to be nutrient deficient and unhealthy. Treatment must be timed correctly for when Winter Grass is actively growing and still young, when the weed becomes too mature, the herbicide will no longer work, and will need to be applied again the following year. After June, the success rates for eliminating the weed will begin to greatly reduce! Call or message us today for any advice on treatment & products! Remember to share and like if you know a weekend warrior that would benefit from our tips

20.01.2022 Wetting Agents Understanding the uses and purposes on a conveniently wet night. You may have heard of wetting agents but dont quite understand what they do. The main purpose of wetting agents is to increase the free flow of water throughout the soil profile for your lawn and your gardens.... Water resistant or hydrophobic soils are those soils where the dispersement of water is uneven meaning that some areas get enough water while other get very little. For hydrophobic or water resistant soils the application of wetting agents aids in breaking down the waxy coating, allowing the soil to more freely absorb, disperse and hold onto the water. This will result in more even coverage of the water and less dry patches of lawn. The end result will be less water left sitting on the top of the lawn to be evaporated, water wont be so quickly forced away from the top soil, and an overall healthier lawn. We offer the best and industry proven wetting agent products on the market. Contact us today for a full range and price list of our wetting agents Dont forget to like and also a share if you know somebody who would benefit from the advice we give

20.01.2022 Last night we touched on Overseeding/Oversowing but had some messages on the techniques of this at home. From acreage to sports fields to golf courses to residential, the general technique still applies! So here we have.. A 10 Step Guide toImprove Existing Lawns by Overseeding 1. Mow the lawn first and foremost. Choose a time when the lawn is dry. Remove any rubbish from the surface of the lawn before mowing. 2. Rake the lawn using a spring tine rake to remove and break up... the layers of dead matted grass or thatch. This process can be made easier using a de thatcher or verticut. 3. If the ground is compact it needs to be loosened to improve the root growth and the drainage. It can be spiked with a fork to a depth of at least 15cm. This job can also be done by machine such as an aerator or vertidrain method on large areas. 4. Select a suitable mixture of lawn seed from our range. Ideally the mixture should contain the same species as the original old sward in order to avoid differences in appearance. 5. Mix the seed and sow either by hand or machine, depending on area mass. To ensure an even lawn the seed should be sown in two directions at right angles. Mix the seed with sand to give a more even seed distribution. The seeding rate is approximately 4.0kg per 100m2. 6. Feed the lawn with a quality lawn fertilizer (high Nitrogen in spring, low Nitrogen in autumn). 7. To get a dense grass growth and to remove minor hollows it is recommended to top dress the lawn with a mixture of sand, peat and loam. 8. To improve germination the area should be raked. This ensures that the seed comes into contact with moisture and that the topdressing is worked into the grass. Lightly roll if possible. 9. Irrigate with a fine spray, keeping the seedbed constantly moist. After establishment irrigation should be restricted. Water between 30-40mm at time to secure a deeper root system. 10. Mow on a high cut when the grass is 40-50mm. Trim lightly and gradually lower blades to an ideal cuttingheight of25-30mm. Mow regularly, however try not to remove more than 1/3 of the growth at anytime. There you have it, your lawn and turf area will be the envy of all whose summer varieties have gone dormant! We carry stock of all rakes, rollers and seed so dont hesitate in placing an order for a trusted and quality brand of tool

19.01.2022 Do you have problems with your lawn producing seed heads from time to time? Generally seed heads form when your lawn is in stress, either due to a lack of nutrients, water or incorrect pH This can be easily fixed, by simply fertilising with a granular NPK fertiliser such as the Sir Walter fertiliser, giving your lawn a few good deep waterings and checking (and correcting) the soil pH.

14.01.2022 So picking up where we left off from last post, the benefits of using instant turf (sods). Here we will highlight the many advantages of laying sods as opposed to synthetic turf and any other alternatives. - As the name suggest, sods are INSTANT. There is no waiting around and tending to lawn areas that have been sown with seed which can at times, be temperamental and not 100% effective. The enjoyment can be experienced immediately. - On establishment, instant lawn requires f...ar less water usage. - Improving and increasing your property value by upwards of $75k in some cases. Also research has been carried out and found that greenspaces have a drastic positive affect of mental health. Strong correlation much? - It helps increase the water quality and traps many pollutants from runoff ranging from the simple backyard to any areas running adjacent to hard stand areas such as walkways and roadside. Water that is filtered through turf is 10 times less acidic compared to the alternative. - Absorbs co2, heat and disperses radiant energy causing a cooling affect and is proven to drop the celcius by a considerable amount. - Can be used as a very efficient not only for dollar value but also for performance, form of erosion control. - Reduces injury for the little ones, providing a cushioning effect. Hope this has made your decision that little bit easier to go for sods rather than seeding it or installing that artificial lawn. Dont hesitate to contact us in regards to ordering or also feel free to send us a message if you would like any other questions answered! Remember to like and share!

10.01.2022 Overseeding/Oversowing Over-seeding should be done in Autumn which allows the lawn to quickly establish before the Winter cold arrives. Over-seeding lawns means to put down new lawn seed on top of an existing lawn. This is done for the purpose of re-seeding an existing Cool Season lawn to help thicken it up and repair damage. But it is also done with Warm Season Lawns which are over-seeded for with a Cool Season grass for Winter.... Most Warm Season grasses will become semi-dormant in the Winter, slowing in growth and losing their dark green colour and vitality. Often in lawn areas of partial shade which may have previously kept a warm season lawn alive, the lawn may die off due to the shifting of the sun and the lower daylight hours of Winter. The best type of grass to use for over-seeding lawns for Winter is almost always Perennial Ryegrass, it establishes very quickly, tolerates the cold, tolerates shade, and will die off very quickly when warmer weather returns. This is why it is usually combined with other seed in lawn mixes. We stock a large and diverse range of grass seeds in many sizes also so do not hesitate to send us a message to discuss your seed needs! Send us a like and a share for anybody in need of some tips, more will be added regularly to ensure your turf area is the envy of neighbours or property owners!

10.01.2022 Even though the seasons are changing and holding on those extra few weeks, now is the time to fertilise to overcome to rigours of winter. Potassium and iron are the key elements to work with this time of year, as they harden the leaf and assist in avoiding any potential fungal issues. As per normal maintenence, an application of slow release nitrogen is also benefical as this assists the production of a green, healthy leaf. We have many solutions to help overcome these frosty... periods may it be a liquid or pellet fertiliser. A large range of applicators are available from spreaders to pallet/liquid dispersion nozzles. Please contact today to directly discuss your lawns needs

10.01.2022 Something else to work on when the days get shorter and the temperature starts to go on decline! Broadleaf weed control in lawn & turf. One of the best things you can do for your lawn is to treat weeds in Autumn. Whether youre tending warm or cool season turf, tackling weeds as autumns cooler days arrive can help you create a lush and lovely lawn heading into spring. Treatments knock out both annual and perennial weeds and can actually be the key to killing established pe...rennial invaders such as dandelion and clover. We recommend Barmac Broadleaf Weeder for your next application. Its one of the most effective selective broadleaf herbicides available because it incorporates three major, well known weedkillers. (Mecroprop, MCPA & dicamba) Each of the constituents has particular strengths and weaknesses across the wide range of broadleaf weeds which can become a pest in turf situations. We believe this product is the best available weed control for golf courses, home lawns, bowling greens, cemeteries, public parks, ovals and turf farms wherever immaculate turf must be maintained. Price is $300 per 10L Lower quantities available on request Remember to shoot us a message with any questions, queries and/or orders

09.01.2022 Caring for your couch lawn in winter Couch grass often suffers more than other lawn varieties when Winter arrives, this is caused primarily due to its very fine leaf blade. This high requirement for sunlight is the reason Couch lawns suffer in Winter. When sunlight hours are severely reduced, food supply decreases and the lawn can often look a little worse for wear. Couch lawn may even die off in some areas which are now in almost permanent shade due to the shifting of ...the sun. Coring lawns for Winter should be done in late Autumn, and the holes should be left open for greatest benefit. While lawn coring in late Autumn will not give the great green leaf results that it does when completed in Spring, it will aid greatly in having a much nicer lawn over Winter, and continuing through the rest of the year. The lawn area can also be over-seeded for the Winter with a Cool Season grass, when planted in Mid Autumn it will remain green for the Winter and then die off as the temperature increases, allowing the Couch to re-grow in the area, that is if your not aiming for a 100% Pure couch turf area. These cool season grasses inc. - fine fescue. - kentucky bluegrass. - perennial ryegrass. - rough stalked bluegrass. - tall fescue. Dont hesitate to send through any thoughts or questions! Remember to keep us in mind for any aeration works and also the supply of any seed!

09.01.2022 Happy Easter from all of us, hope everyone has had a much needed break from the tools..even if tractors is life

05.01.2022 Just a quick tip on a Sunday arvo for preparing your lawn when heading into Autumn! It is usually thought by many that when the warmer months and seasons are behind us that it is not at all necessary to keep up with the maintenance plan but this is certainly not the case as you want to give your lawn the best chance when going through the cooler periods. In regards to watering, adjust it conjunction with the natural rainfall, shorter days and lower temperatures in mind. Aim f...or only 2.5cms of water per week across the entire lawn. If you have received rain, or rain is on the horizon, you dont want to water your lawn unless it needs it. Youll know when water is required as the blades will begin to yellow and wither. The best time of day to water is early morning; - before moisture will be lost to evaporation when you water during the heat of the day, and - before moisture will sit on the leaves and open up the risk of disease when you water too close to nightfall. Remember, regardless of the time of the year or the season, water less frequently but always more deeply to encourage a strong and deep root system. Make a plan to fertilize (with a slow release fertilizer) your lawn and have it in optimum condition by Easter; this will help your lawn to survive and even thrive throughout Winter. 04.01.2022 Soon after your target turf area has had its selective and broadleaf herbicide treatment you will most likely be left with bare spots where the weeds once were, very unsightly. Solution? Top dressing and overseeding/oversowing! What is top dressing? Top dressing a lawn involves spreading a blended soil mixture up to 1cm thick over the grass surface. In most cases top dressing is done to correct poor preparation and lack of soil underneath or to fill in low spots and correct u...neven areas. How does top dressing benefit the turf area? Top dressing brings many benefits to a lawn that is looking a little lacklustre, including helping to reduce the accumulation of dead grass clippings and stems, known as thatch. It helps to increase nutrient retention, improves drainage and increases disease and pest resistance. To carry out topdressing, spread the mix evenly over the desired area then rake, level lawn or broom it into the lawn profile. We supply tools to assist in top dressing from domestic to large scale turf projects inc. parkland and oval construction. Contact us today to speak about the right tool for the application!
