24.01.2022 Self-Care Why is self-care so important? For many people, self-care does not happen automatically. Yet, it is impossible to achieve wellness without the ability to effectively care for yourself on all levels - body mind, and spirit. Why don't you give your self-care some fresh attention? Below are some examples of self-care. Drinking loads of water (2 litres p/day)... Getting enough sleep (6-9 hours per night, go to bed early) Getting outside regularly for fresh air/sunshine/Vitamin D Resting when unwell or fatigued Practicing yoga, meditation or mental relaxation Plenty of exercise (3 or 4 times p/week) Having at least one person in your life you can truly talk to Associating with people who support you Reading an inspirational book Relaxing via a hobby such as painting, craft, reading, gentle exercise or drawing Having at least one hour free time per day Doing something enjoyable everyday See more

21.01.2022 Stigma. It discourages over 2 million of us from seeking help every year, it makes recovery harder and it fuels isolation. Find out more about how you can help change mental health stigma below. http://www.healthscopepulse.com.au/n/health-blog/mhw-stigma

20.01.2022 Recently a well-regarded local radio personality spent some time at St Helens Private Hospital. He shared his story openly, describing how he had felt worn out, not doing things he normally would, had horrible feelings of absolute anxiety, hadnt realised he had been feeling unwell for a while. But he wanted to get the key message across that you need to put yourself first, dont feel guilty or weak, lots of people are in the same situation, get help . He was very happy to report that he was back on track and feeling fantastic.

12.01.2022 "There is top quality, gold standard evidence...that TMS is effective in treating depression. The trials we are doing now is to improve the current treatment." ...Like other treatments, TMS doesn't suit every instance of depression, however increased funding could see it become more widely available and accessible for the individuals who will get the most benefit from it. 06.01.2022 World Health Day, celebrated on April 7 every year to mark the anniversary of the founding of the World Health Organisation, provides us with a unique opportunity to mobilize action around a specific health topic of concern to people all over the world. The theme for World Health Day in 2017 is depression.

05.01.2022 Welcome back to St Helen’s Private Hospital Facebook page. We would like to acknowledge Mental Health Week 2020 and the theme of the Mental Health Council of Tasmania ‘We all have a role to play’. The theme provides an inclusive and overarching theme for Tasmanian communities to come together. One in five Australians will experience mental ill health every year, so it is important to encourage Tasmanians to stop and think about their mental health and seek and celebrate th...eir wellbeing. This year in particular, we’ve all had some challenges to face, and it can be tough to stay mentally healthy. MHW is an opportunity for us all to consider how to enhance our social and emotional wellbeing by enhancing our personal resilience and support networks. Perhaps you could do some checking in: Check in on your own mental health, check in on a neighbour or friend, what’s happening in your community. Check in for a mental health check up with a GP. Remember help is at hand and here are just a few of the many valuable services and resources you can access, eg www.sthelen’sprivatehospital.com.au, www.lifeline.org.au, www.beyondblue.org.au, www.sane.org, www.suicidecallbackservice.org.au, www.mensline.org.au, www.checkin.org.au See more

01.01.2022 The inpatient group program is one of the most valuable resources for patients and education on mental health is a critical step in the path to recovery. The Program provides participants with information about their illness and useful strategies to assist in the self-management of mental health. Patients are encouraged to participate in a range of therapeutic group activities as well as individual counselling sessions designed to provide crucial support and help smooth their return to their community. 01.01.2022 SELF CARE - PHYSICAL AND MENTAL WELLBEING Self-care is so important and doesn’t happen automatically. But it is impossible to achieve wellness without the ability to effectively care for yourself on all levels - body mind, and spirit. Why don't you give your self-care some fresh attention? Each of us could focus on just one thing that might help eat well, sleep well, exercise, try creative ways to engage socially, walk or bike ride, visit a friend, have a massage. Find someone you can really talk to and associate with people who support you. For more ideas see this calendar. And for further information: https://lookafteryourmentalhealthaustralia.org.au/
