23.01.2022 According to this from July 1st this year even dogs/cats/puppies/kittens being given away for free will need to be microchipped and the person advertising them will need a source number. MC can cost anywhere from $50- $80 apparently. Cheaper to get your cats desexed now, before this rule comes in. Please share this around.

Our normal adoption protocols will still be in place. Staff in both stores will be given a run down on the kittens personalities and will home them accordingly. We will stipulate if they will need quiet homes with older children, or if they are suitable with young children and other animals ect. 21.01.2022 MAX IS LOST. Not our rescue but this is Max, wolfhound x border collie, his story is a very sad one, just before Christmas he was sent from a QLD pound to a carer in Melbourne, somehow he escaped care and got lost on Monash Freeway, his carer has searched ever since, he was microchipped but to a W.A. company, carer has reached out to us to get Max,s story out there, just in case someone might have picked him up and couldnt trace his owner and decided to give him a home, hoping he is well loved and happy.

20.01.2022 In the last 2 weeks we have taken in several mum cats with little ones ranging from a few days old to 5 weeks old. Sadly we have also had several little ones come into care without their mums so we are hand raising them. The babies below are only 2weeks old and require very intensive care, feeding 2-3 hourly, toileting and keeping them clean is a full time job. We are lucky this is a multiple kitten litter, even though it’s more work. Kittens do so much better with a mum cat but if there is no mum they should always be paired up with another kitten or litter of similar age kittens where possible. Lots of cuteness in the pics below

15.01.2022 IF YOU FIND KITTENS !!!!!!!!!! What to do and NOT do FOR TINY KITTENS During high kitten season in the spring and summer, its not unusual to discover a nest... of unattended kittens or a single kitten seemingly abandoned by the mother. You want to help, right? Before jumping to the rescue, WAIT Mama Cat may be off searching for food. She has to keep herself well fed to produce milk for the babies! It is not unusual for a mama cat to be gone several hours. She may also be in the process of moving the babies from one location to another (especially if youve found one alone). Assess the kittens apparent health: *. Does their fur look healthy, full and fluffy? T OR Are they dirty? Sickly? Eyes crusty? *. Are they sleeping quietly? In a heap? OR Are they crying? Squalling? *. Are they dry? OR Are they wet/soaked? Are the kittens in IMMEDIATE danger from: Rain? Wet weather/flooding? Cold? Wild animals? Dogs? Traffic pedestrian foot traffic? mean neighbors/kids? bicycles or cars? UNLESS THE KITTENS ARE IN IMMEDIATELY DANGER it is best to watch to see if the mama cat will return. You should be at least 35 feet away (more is better). Do NOT place food near the kittens to lure Mama Cat. (Mama Cat almost always purposely hides her litter away from food sources as she knows that food will attract other cats and even bigger predators!) You may need to leave completely and come back later (4-6 hours) to check whether the kittens are still OK (dry, sleeping/quiet, appear fed, etc.) Especially if shes feral, Mama Cat will most likely NOT return until she no longer senses human presence. Know that healthy kittens can survive several hours without food as long as they are warm. Please please share this

15.01.2022 Upcoming Bonded Adoption 2 kittens, Lion and Bear. Please read this entire post before contacting us! Its a long one, but its full of important information. In the near future we will have 2 male kittens available for adoption together. These boys are very timid and shy and are looking for a very particular home. They are approx 13 weeks old and are very good with other friendly cats and are ok with friendly dogs who leave them alone, but humans are big and make them very... nervous. These boys are working so hard in foster home to overcome their fears and are settling very well, but we would like to find them an experienced and very patient home that is willing to work with them on building their confidence. This will possibly take some time, but they have shown us already how much love there is under that fear, and we just know, if In the right home, they will flourish! So, if you think you may have the right home, and are interested in possibly adopting 2 lovely young men, please send us a message. The more information you supply us the better, this helps us in assessing if you potentially have the right home for them. A little info about the boys. Lion is becoming very outgoing and playful! He loves attention and purrs and smooches your hand for pats. Bear is slowly learning that hands arent going to hurt him, but they make him nervous. However, they also provide food and he does enjoy a good feed, even from those scary hands. Together they play and play and play, then snuggle up for nap time! Neither of the boys particularly enjoy being picked up at this point. These boys need indoor only homes, with possible access to an outdoor secure cat run. Please know that whilst we love for kids to learn responsibility and the roles of being a responsible pet owner, these boys are not at all suitable for a home with children. They are in foster care with a young child, who is experienced with cats/kittens and they have shown us very clearly that children will affect their progress and the most important thing is to find them a home where they can become their very best cat selves. And to ensure Rescue Charities and Rescue Groups can save deathrow animals, as well as reviewing outdated behavioural assessments. And initiating more desexing programs including TNR (trap, neuter, release).

15.01.2022 Over the last week we have had quite a few adult cats and kittens come in to care We have a mum that our carer Aimee spent several days back and forwards trying to trap, eventually catching her and all her newborn babies! Another cat gave birth on someone’s doorstep overnight and we were alerted the next day and bought her with her 7 newborns into care. We have also had this gorgeous little ginger nut come into care on his own as unfortunately the home owner was unable to get the mum and litter mates before the mum cat moved them and disappeared. Please note he is only 4 weeks old so not ready for adoption and we are not taking enquiries. Please continue to watch our page as kitten season is well and truly underway!

12.01.2022 Rescue can be rewarding but it can also be heartbreaking. This week 2 of our carers had to say goodbye to 2 little fighters. Rambo was 8 weeks but weighed less than a 2 week old kitten. He was getting feeds and appeared to be doing well. Then this morning he crashed and there was nothing the vets could do so he was given his wings. The beautiful black and white girl was 5 weeks and healthy weight but she too crashed and was given her wings. Our volunteers put their hearts and... their souls in to the animals in their care. We have good days and bad so if ever youre dealing with anyone in rescue please be kind if we seem grumpy etc because we may be having a bad day. We may have been up every 2 hours feeding a kitten. We may be battling to help save a dog or a cat. We may be exhausted, stressed or sad. We are human and not perfect but we do our best. The tears have flowed for these beautiful babies. 09.01.2022 Beautiful Billy Billy came into care this week and has had things a bit tough. He has been an indoor/outdoor kitty in his previous home and being undesexed has managed to get himself into a few scrapes recently! He was at the vet on Friday for his routine vet work to be done but also had a few other issues. One of his canine teeth had a fracture which would have been painful for him so he had that tooth removed and also had a scale/polish while under anaesthetic.... Billy also had a bit of swelling on his toe so that was clipped for a better look and found to have an abscess that was very infected. He has been given a long acting antibiotic injection and is also on pain relief to keep him comfortable during recovery. His coat is a little dull and thin but in the coming weeks being indoor only we are hoping he cleans himself up and his coat will improve. This type of vet work doesnt come cheap with Billys costs already up over the $700 mark, and once ready for adoption in a couple of weeks his adoption fee will be $150. We often have cats and dogs come into care that need more than routine vet work before being available for adoption, this is why we are putting out a call for donations to help us through. Kitten season is just around the corner and we want to be able to help as many animals in need as possible! 04.01.2022 We say goodbye to Mary Ham 1st July 2020 after short illness, Mary was a great friend to SGAA, past sectretary, helped in Paws Galore and great kitten carer when she lived in San Remo, nothing for 20 to 30 kittens running her home, feeding them on the best fresh foods, none of this tinned stuff for Mary s kittens. Mary was magic at applying for grants when funds were low. Mary will be sadly missed, will miss sending Mary little photo.s and updates of Jack and Junior her cats, both just had their yearly vet visit and are well and happy. We send our thoughts and love to Mary,s family and friends.

02.01.2022 UPDATE: 26/11/19 Miss Choccy has now been in care for several months recovering from her fractured pelvis and being monitored. On the 7th of this month we took her to Melbourne Veterinary Specialist Centre for an echocardiograph, the results of this were as we feared!! Choccy has BOTH an atrial and ventricular septal defect 2 holes in different chambers of her heart) These defects are having having an impact on her cardiac blood flow and as such her prognosis is poor. Choccy... is unable to be put under any stress which also includes anaesthetic to desex her so she will not be available for adoption. Choccy is happy in her foster home and at this stage is showing no signs of heart failure or fluid in her chest. As such she will be looked after and loved for however short a time this may be, she is very affectionate and has won the hearts of her foster family This gorgeous kitty came into care after being found in a gutter in the freezing cold. Its believed she had been hit by a car and she was close to death. Choccy has a broken pelvis and was hospitalised for 5 days on fluids and is now being looked after by one of our carers and is getting around the clock care with syringe feeding hourly and heavy duty pain relief. She is very malnourished and is the size of a 6 month old kitten although we believe she is an adult. We are crossing everything for her to make a full recovery so that we can eventually find her a wonderful forever home. So even though kitten season has subsided for a few months we are still as busy as ever behind the scenes looking after many animals until they are ready for adoption.
