25.01.2022 Guess what!? Afterpay is now available on my website! This makes bigger, fancier items more within reach, like commissions. I love it when people treat themselves to a painting of their favourite fish that they have coveted for many a year. People's favourite fish ALWAYS surprise me. If you could commissions painting of any species, what would you get and who for? I would paint myself a real-to-life sized shark ray #rhinaancylostoma if I had the time. ... https://www.stickfigurefish.com.au/pages/comissions-form #art #artist #painting #passion #illustration #carcharhinusmelanopterus #blacktipreefshark

23.01.2022 Preorder now and receive 10% off Fine Art Prints! I have taken the big step this year to print on demand in-house. This allows me to customise prints (dm me or contact me for any customisation requirements you may have) and saves time and shipping cost (yay). I have purchased an Epson Surecolour P906 printer from @imagescience. This model has just been released and is cutting edge in producing outstanding exhibition-grade prints with UltraChrome PRO10 archival pigment inks.... The printers were due to arrive in the country in mid-August, but, you know, #corona . So now they will hopefully be arriving mid-September (any minute now). Am waiting with breath baited... This is why all of my fine art prints are currently on preorder in my shop. To celebrate this #levelup and also say sorry that you have to wait (I know, we all want things right now! Me too.) I am offering 10% off all of my preorder fine art prints. This will be for a LIMITED TIME and the offer will be over as soon as the printer arrives (come on EPSON). All you need to do is go to my website (https://www.stickfigurefish.com.au/collections/art-prints) and order a fine art print (or two, or three, free shipping on orders over $100 in Australia and $250 international, remember) using the PREORDER BUTTON. (You don't get the discount unless you use the 'PREORDER' button to add to cart). Afterpay and layby payment options also available . #nobarewalls #preorder #fishprints #fineartprints #art #artisticcommunity #arttherapy #epson #epsonp906 #epsonsurecolour #ultrachromepro10 #mahimahi #afterpay #fishart

22.01.2022 So what species/families would you like included in the last few pages of my Rays of the World calendar? Let me know and I might be able to put them in! Priority will go to people who have already preordered a calendar. Use #SFF2021CAL So I can find your suggestions. Remember to preorder your calendar before The end of November to make sure you get one! https://www.stickfigurefish.com.au/collections/2021-calendar... #bathytoshiabrevicaudata #raysoftheworld2021calendar #raysfordays #stingray #flatsharkfriday #hooray4rays #hoorayforrays #raysoftheworld #stingrayscience #majesticseaflapflaps #seapancakes #flatsharksneedlovetoo #flatsharksneedlove2

21.01.2022 Edit: now I have had time to inspect it better, this Ray is actually more likely to be the recently described species Mobula eregoodoo! #mobulareregoodoo ---- My friend @toni.wills found this devil ray (mobula kuhlii) washed up (dead) on the beach today, so I sprinted down, took some gratuitous glamour shots and then manhandled it back to my car. Such a perfect voucher specimen for the museum. #dontpaniceveryoneimadoctor

20.01.2022 I got a callout for a sick Olive Sea Snake a while back. Unfortunately it died before I managed to do anything, but I took the opportunity to take some photos of the dead snake. I thought you guys might enjoy to see some details you rarely get to see when encountering these snakes.

20.01.2022 Happy Fri-ray! So here is a look at December and everyone's favourite Devilrays. If you didn't already know, the Devilrays (Mobulidae) are medium to very large rays that have prominent 'cephalic lobes' which are the sticky-out bits at the front of their heads. The famous manta rays belong of this group, but there are currently seven other living species (nine all together). There are only eight featured because I have not yet painted the newly resurrected Longhorned Pygmy De...vil Ray (Mobula eregoodoo). If you remember a few months back on my feed I found one on my local beach and sent it down to the Australian Museum. Only a few more days left to get your calendar orders in. 18.01.2022 I don't know if you all saw this video on Australian National News on Sunday (I don't think anything else that newsworthy happened this weekend .... I am VERY MUCH kidding America), but four men were rescued by the @racqlifeflightrescue helicopter when their boat capsized off the coast of Fraser Island on Saturday afternoon. These four men are actually very dear to me, and I can not possibly thank @RACQLifeFlightRescue and @MarineRescueQueensland for reacting so quickly and... professionally and for saving their lives in the fading light. I don't know if they would be here today if they did not have an #EPIRB on board. They had life jackets, flares (that they used), boat knowledge and experience and pretty good weather and all of that might not have been enough given the time of day and the strong currents in the area. If the EPIRB had not gotten the distress message and location out immediately, and the rescue services had not responded so quickly it may well have been a very different and tragic story for us. I would just like to take this opportunity to remind all of my boating and fishing friends who are planning to be out on the water this holiday season to be safe and prepared and to deeply thank the QLD marine rescue responders. I know that we will be donating to them for their invaluable service to those of us out on the water in Queensland. This kind of thing can happen to anyone, with just a bit of bad luck or bad timing. Stay safe my aquatic friends. Donation Links Below. Lindsay marinerescueqld.org.au lifeflight.org.au #marinerescueservice #racqlifeflight #vmrqld #volunteermarinerescue #marinerescue #gratitude

18.01.2022 If anyone wants to watch a time-lapse video of me working on the sailfish, I just posted one on my YouTube account. I'm experimenting with this form of media and I have a lot to learn, so hopefully, I will improve as I add more videos and get to know my equipment a bit better. You can subscribe too (apparently that is important for some reason). Link here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BbJL_IJgJA4). Do you like progress/painting videos? Do you get much out of them? Let me know. #art #creative #painting #illustration #contemporaryart #gallery #fishing #sportfishing #saltwaterfishing #sailfish #amianinfluencernow

16.01.2022 Some news on my preorder Fine Art Prints. As you know I have been waiting since mid August for a brand new Epson P906 art printer so that I can start producing fine art prints made to order (see my previous post on this). Well, Epsom have finally announced that the printer that I have ordered will be arriving around the 7th of October. Hoo-bloody-ray! This means that for those who have ordered Fine Art Prints on Preorder, they will be shipping in a couple of weeks! Thank you... so much for waiting. I will be adding some surprises in your orders to say a great big thank you. This also means that you only have a couple of weeks left to get 10% off my fine art prints by using the ‘preorder’ button. (Apparently there were issues with this button which are now fixed ). Get them on my website and shop Fine Art Prints (link here https://www.stickfigurefish.com.au/collections/art-prints). #art #artist #contemporaryart #artwork #painting #artgallery #wallart #prints #homedecor #fineart #shopify #coraltrout

13.01.2022 Hello there! I have mostly finished designing the calendar and am just tweaking a few things. I have been so overjoyed that everyone has been so excited about this. I still have a few months of the calendar left to do, so as a way of saying a great big thanks to those of you who have pre-ordered, I thought I would leave the last ones up to you! I'm going to start a thread with the hashtag #SFF2021cal and invite you to suggest your favourite species or families that you think... should be included. Priority will go to those who have already preordered their calendar. Get it here (https://www.stickfigurefish.com.au/collections/2021-calendar). So off you go! Comment or tweet me all of your favourites (don't forget to include #SFF2021cal so I can find them all). Because it is really you guys who made this thing happen. Thank you so very much. 12.01.2022 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our founder and chair, John Rumney. Whether you had known John for a minute or a lifetime, he had the u...nique ability to fuel the fires in you that made you want to do great things, for yourself, for others, and of course for our amazing planet that he found so much joy in. He was selfless beyond measure and would always put you and your needs well before his own, because if you were in his presence or thoughts, you were the most important person in the world. If John believed in you, then you were unstoppable! John LOVED the natural world. Every little detail was fascinating beyond belief, and he inherently understood the processes that drive the systems we take for granted from local to global. He also understood he was part of those systems and for them to stay as beautiful as when he found them he was going to have to do everything he could to protect them for everyone to enjoy forever. And that he did! John dedicated his life to our Great Barrier Reef. To him, the reef was family, something to be cherished beyond measure, a marvel of nature so rich and abundant in life it had to be seen to be believed. John started, was part of, or chaired countless committees, attended meetings at every level, lobbied our politicians, appeared in and coordinated countless documentaries, and most importantly was a leader and a trusted voice in all reef-related matters. John was admired and respected in so many circles because of his integrity and honesty, because of his drive and ambition to simply do the right thing, his ability to work with anyone and everyone, and because his wants and desires were never for his own personal gain, but always for others and the world we live in. John was recognised for his endless contributions to the Great Barrier Reef and with both an Australia Day Citizen of the Year award for the Douglas Shire Council, as well receiving the Australian Geographic Lifetime of Conservation Award and was humbled by these enormous gestures. John could not have achieved what he has without the support and love of his wonderful family. His wife Linda and three daughters share his passion and have actively supported and worked alongside John to achieve his dreams of a better world for everyone. John was a pioneer in thought and actions. He dreamt up and created the first ecotourism venture before the word had meaning, expertly mixing science, tourism and adventure to benefit the reef and the communities that rely on it. In so doing, John provided lifechanging tourism experiences for tens of thousands of people from all over the world who not only got to swim eye-to-eye with our ocean's most majestic creatures but were able to help them in the process. Through this, he advanced research and our understanding of the reef that resulted in greater protection and conservation. Undersea Explorer became the most iconic, and important to him, the most cost-effective, research vessel on the planet. John had found a way that everyone could benefit, and most of all he found a way that he could share the reef with the world. For John the reef was magical, and if you ever got to spend time with him on the water on any of his expeditions, then some of the magic has been passed to you :) With the Great Barrier Reef changing before his eyes John realised a different tact was needed and Great Barrier Reef Legacy was born. An organisation created by dedicated and passionate professionals in marine science, tourism, education and multi-media, and supported by an amazing team of volunteers that knew they could make a difference for the future health of the Great Barrier Reef - and we have! By acting as a catalyst, Great Barrier Reef Legacy has provided solutions for researchers, educators, and the global community to rapidly act on urgent climate-related issues for coral reefs. After only 4 years of operation, we have raised over $1 million dollars, ran 5 major expeditions, supported research projects from major universities and government organisations, reached out and communicated with teachers and students all over the world, collaborated with a wide range of like-minded teams, and engage with a global audience on a daily basis. Most recently we launched the Living Coral Biobank Project, which John knew was the only way we could save the biodiversity of corals TODAY, for tomorrow. Through this project, we found another solution that allows us to leave a true legacy for generations to come, and for us to once again share the magic of coral reefs with the world. John had many great mottos, but perhaps these three best sum up his, and our approach, to making great things happen! "Science for Solutions" - trust the science, support the science, and know that science is the way we both understand and protect the natural places we love. Embrace the wonder and beauty of discovery and exploration in all you do. "Adventure with purpose" - this one is very important - having fun while doing great things is the most rewarding experience you can have, and you will have the biggest possible impact! John ALWAYS found the most fun in every situation, ALWAYS took the time to laugh, and ALWAYS found an adventure in everything he did. John was the wealthiest person I knew because his experiences were so rich, diverse, and had great purpose, and no amount of money in the world can ever buy that! "Only together, there are no Barriers too Great to save our Reefs" - John loved working with others, finding ways to collaborate to solve problems and find great outcomes, and most of all to enjoy and celebrate sharing of knowledge, ideas and experiences. John had no ego about what he did, he was never driven by money, and he knew that when you team up with good people, you can dare to dream BIG, and if you are willing to work hard enough, those dreams come true. So today we celebrate a humble man who achieved larger than life goals - a loving family man, great colleague, inspiring mentor, and the most loyal and genuine friend anyone could hope for. An adventurer at heart, a conservationist by nature, and one of the worlds' great leaders who valued those around him. Great Barrier Reef Legacy is John’s legacy, it is his gift to anyone that wants to help our Great Barrier Reef and coral reefs in the most meaningful way possible with real and tangible outcomes that benefit everyone. It’s a legacy that will last forever! 08.01.2022 Things have been pretty behind here at Stick Figure Fish HQ lately. My littlest one broke her leg. She's fine and not in any pain, but requires being carried a lot and has missed a fair bit of daycare. Suffice to say, the calendar has been pushed back a little bit. But, I'm happy to say, that it's finally almost finished I will be heading to the printer on Thursday for some final adjustments. The proof I have so far looks awesome. I'm still on schedule to start posting them o...ut in early December! This means that this really is the LAST WEEK to get your order in for a 2021 calendar. Please let anyone know who might be sad if they missed out. Get it here: https://www.stickfigurefish.com.au//stick-figure-fish-2021 Here's a peek at May. It features the family Narkidae, otherwise known as the Sleeper Rays. Nine species are recognised worldwide (none are found in Australia). They are poorly known, slow swimming bottom dwellers that live both inshore and in deep water (down to 800m!). They suction feed their prey (mostly polychaete worms) from the soft substrate. These rays can deliver a moderate to strong defensive electric shock when handled! #narkidae #sleeperray #SFFraysoftheworld2021calendar #stingray #hoorayforrays #raysmattertoo #flatsharkfriday

06.01.2022 This is one of my greeting cards. It features one of the very first paintings I did of a barramundi (circa 2004!). At the time I was painting in gouache on watercolour paper. Now I paint with acrylics most of the time (although my heartsong medium is oil paint, but usually #aintnobodygottimeforthat). I would love to get back into it one day. As you can see, my style has changed quite a bit since this early fish painting. There is also an #easteregg in this one. Can anybody se...e which bit of anatomy I forgot to add to this barra!? Did you know that there is free shipping in Australia on all greeting cards in my store? 05.01.2022 It’s Father’s day on Sunday! I will be celebrating my husband who is a very excellent and deserving dad. He’s treating himself with a couple of bespoke @mulleteyerods. In need of a last minute, fish related, thoughtful, unique, small business supporting, gift for your favourite Dad? I have you covered with my Stick Figure Fish Illustration gift cards! Instant and no postage. https://www.stickfigurefish.com.au/collections/gift-cards-1

05.01.2022 I’m so excited to be printing my own mugs now! There has definitely been quite a bit of experimentation and failed mugs (I printed one of them backwards ), but I am really glad to be able to quality control and offer faster shipping in Australia. Don’t forget that if you buy more than one in my store you can have them for $25 each if you use the code SPRINGMUGS until the 19th of this month. Free shipping in Australia ! Otherwise they are now $29 each which is about t...en bucks cheaper than before. Yay! https://www.stickfigurefish.com.au/collections/mugs In other news I have been to the printer and received a proof of a couple of pages from my Rays of the World 2021 calendar and they look FANTASTIC! I will be taking orders for another week and a bit, so if you were thinking of getting one, now is the time. I’m sorry that I can’t make international shipping cheaper, but it is actually more expensive than $25 so I will covering the extra cost myself because I really want my international friends to have the rays too! Remember, prices are in AUD so for a lot of countries it’s a discount . https://www.stickfigurefish.com.au//stick-figure-fish-2021 To all our friends in the USA, hang in there. We are thinking about you. As usual, feel free to comment and let me know what you think about stuff. Lindsay

03.01.2022 New #antarctickrill mug and print in store. What do you think? Also, this is the last day to get mugs for $25 each with the code SPRINGMUGS when you buy more than one. Calendar buying has been extended by one week because my baby broke her little leg and I’m quite behind schedule now. So that’s lucky for those who haven’t got their calendar order in yet! Xx Lindsay

02.01.2022 Who's excited about 2020 ending! Me too! I'm so keen for it to be 2021 that I have decided to make an inaugural, to-be-yearly, calendar. This calendar is the first one folks, and copies will be limited to people who order before the end of November. The calendar will be A3 size, landscape and will showcase illustrations that I have done for Rays of the World (CSIRO Press), with a few artistic enhancements (I'm fiddling with them a bit so they will be a bit better than the one...s in the book). Each month will show a select few species from a Family group. Mobulidae March anyone? (I'm not going to get alliteration into all of the months. Sheesh. I can't do Potamotrygonidae Peptember). It features a Smalleye Stingray (Megatrygon microps (Annandale 1908)) on the cover (my friend @queenofmantas second favourite ray species). To boot, each copy will be signed by myself. I'm doing a single print run to order and aim to have them all delivered before Christmas, so that means that anyone who wants one needs to get their order in before the end of November. Please tag or share with anyone who might like one so we can get the word around before then. Get it here: https://www.stickfigurefish.com.au//stick-figure-fish-2021 Thank you so much for your interest in my work as an independent artist, and thank you all for hanging in there for this sh**ty year. You are all doing a great job. I mean that. Considering we are all thinking ahead for Christmas presents that means it's nearly over. Come on 2021!! 01.01.2022 I'm returning to work after having my baby last year with a huge bang! I am so excited to have some exciting commissions to share with you in the next couple of months. I have commissions for everything from pelagic billfish to some niche freshwater fish species, to some southern Australian old trusty angling species, and, of course, some sharks and rays for good measure. Suffice to say, my commissions are filling up pretty quickly for the end of the year, so if you had a...n exceptional and unique present in mind for somebody (or yourself #treatyoself) for Christmas, then I would suggest you get in quick. See my website (https://www.stickfigurefish.com.au/pages/comissions-form) or DM me to get the ball rolling. Investing in some original artwork supports small business and skilled professionals like myself to follow their dreams and keep creating. You have no idea how much this means to us all. I totally understand that it can be a bit of a big purchase, so Afterpay is now available in my store too! #flyfishing #fishinglife #nature #art #illustration #painting #artist #handmade #artinspiration #illustrator #instaart #sailfish #marlin #sportfishing #saltwaterfishing #angler #offshore #deepseafishing #bigfish #pelagic #ocean #marine #boating #billfish #tuna #freshwater #shark #ray #fishart

01.01.2022 I love this quote by @sallybrowneartist about the exhilarating process of buying a piece of original art. ...it is an act of both love and defiance. To the artist because you’re basically saying ‘I see you, I love what you’ve created and I validate and support your life choice’. Love to yourself because you’re acknowledging and prioritising your own need for beauty and happiness in your life, and defiance against that nasty whiny inner voice who’ d rather you paid the car... insurance or save your money for a rainy day instead."
