25.01.2022 9000 DROPKICKS TO GET WOMEN'S RUGBY SIDE TO U.S A Sunshine Coast women's rugby sevens team is aiming to convert over 9000 dropkicks in a day, to help g...et the team to a competition in America. The squad of fourteen Sunshine Coast Fever Rugby Sevens players will travel to Orlando next month, to take part in the 'Tropical 7s' rugby tournament. The competition sees elite sides from across the globe compete, with three teams from Australia expected to take part this year. Head coach Luke Zeremes, said to help fundraise the international trip, the girls have committed to a 'dropkick challenge’ this month, where players will spend six hours converting the same number of dropkicks as there is miles between Nambour and Orlando. The team will aim to successfully convert 9130 dropkicks. At least five of our girls will be doing the drop kicks, so when we break that down that will be five per girl per minute over that six hour period, which again is going to be quite challenging, Mr Zeremes said. A Go Fund Me page named ‘Dropkicking our way to Orlando’ has been set up for the challenge. According to Mr Zeremes, the trip will be a dream come true for many of the players, who will get the chance to represent the coast and their country, and for some travel overseas for the first time. He said the level of competition was elite with Canadian and American teams making up a large portion of the competitors. So there's elite academies from Atlanta, from Utah, Vancouver, Toronto, LA, they're coming from all around America and Canada, to converge in Orlando and have a real battle against each other, he said. From Australia there will be our team, a side from the Gold Coast and one from Brisbane attending.
