01.01.2022 *Hypoglycaemia Awareness** What is the significance of the number "4" when you have diabetes? If you are on insulin or certain medicines (called sulphonyureas) to manage your diabetes, it is important to treat any blood glucose level lower than 4mmol/L. This is whether you experience symptoms or not.... Known as a hypoglycaemic event, treating quickly with short-acting glucose (such as jelly beans or honey) followed by longer-acting carbohydrate (such as a sandwich or piece of fruit) will prevent your blood glucose from dropping even lower.
