23.01.2022 Yesterday our west Focus Farms sub-group met as part of the FAR Australia Hyper Yielding Crops national project where they discussed last season and plans for the coming season. After this growers checked out the installation of sub-soil drainage by Drainage Downunder for another of our projects. Both of these projects are Grains Research and Development Corporation investments. Everyone finished the day with refreshments and a sausage sizzle, cooked by our trusty Smart Farms Coordinator, Phil Honey! Keep an eye on our social media for regular updates from these, and other, projects over the coming months.

22.01.2022 What an amazing 2 days Livestock'20 was! Held over the 22nd and 23rd of October and co-hosted by SCF and the WA Producers Co-operative, the program was jam packed and included field displays and demonstrations on-farm at the Slade family's West Kendenup property, Glenridge Park on the Thursday 22nd. Definitely a highlight of this day was the butchering display from MLA butcher Rafael Ramirez! Day 2 moved to the Albany Entertainment Centre and was opened by the Honorable A...lannah MacTiernan MLC. The program was filled with topical presentations and discussions on a range of Livestock based themes - from block chain and working in Co-operatives, to digital agriculture, sheep breeding, pasture utilisation, farm finance and farm water security, there was something for everyone. SCF and WAPC would like to thank everyone who helped make this event a fantastic and informative 2 days, with special thanks to our Main Event Sponsors - Meat & Livestock Australia, WA Livestock Research Council, Pivotel and the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development - DPIRD. Papers and PDFs from some of the presentations will shortly be available for downloading on the Event website - www.scfarmers.org.au/livestock20.

16.01.2022 Congratulations to Jasmine Cugley, winner of the SCF Young Farmers scholarship prize awarded recently at the WA College of Agriculture Denmark's Graduation and Awards Ceremony. This year applicants had to write an essay addressing the question "What practices or practice changes would you encourage local farmers to adopt to sustainably manage on-farm water supplies?" Jas is pictured here at the Ceremony with SCF CEO, Nathan Dovey. SCF also awards scholarships to students studying Agriculture at the Mt Barker Community College and Great Southern Grammar, the winners of these will be announced at their upcoming Graduation and Awards Ceremonies. SCF is proud to support youth in Agriculture and encourage them to consider careers in our industry. WA College of Agriculture Denmark

09.01.2022 AEGIC’s Soft Wheat Project has identified that Australian Soft and ANW possess potentials for export markets in Asia especially Indonesia. The major breeding companies are now investing in breeding soft wheat in WA as an outcome. The Soft Wheat 2.0 focuses on finding out whether Solvent Retention Capacity (SRC) is required for wheat classification, selecting Australian soft wheat varieties that may possess milling advantage over American soft white wheat and developing soft w...heat that suit cookie production in Indonesia. AEGIC would still like to have ANW in the mix for research purposes. SCF would like to help AEGIC source some ANW samples from our area. They would prefer lower protein samples (protein < 9.5%), however, welcome any variety samples at any protein levels. SCF will arrange collection of the samples so there is nothing for you to do but let us know if you might be able to help out by supplying a sample. Please get in touch with Nathan Dovey (0429 468 030) for more information.
