25.01.2022 Wow. <3 So inspiring. And ingenious signage!

24.01.2022 Recently a Melbourne homebirth midwife was SUSPENDED by AHPRA, prior to ANY hearing, because a mum she supported, whod chosen to have no ultrasounds, had surprise twins (smooth birth / healthy babies / happy mother). These outrageous witch hunts need to stop! This is a HUGE loss to the small and under-supported community of families who choose intervention-free birth. And what of all the pregnant women who are currently in this midwifes care?! The stress placed on them... in this sensitive period is both unnecessary and unjust. It is likely, and deeply concerning, that a number of these women (especially those who have previously suffered traumatic hospital births) will choose to freebirth, putting themselves and their babies at higher risk. By further restricting access to homebirth midwifery care, AHPRA is directly putting women and babies at risk! PLEASE SIGN AND SHARE if you believe ALL women should be entitled to maternity care that protects their autonomy and fundamental HUMAN RIGHTS.

23.01.2022 Have you opted out of 'My Health Record' yet? Last chance, folks! Opt-out period ends Thurs Nov 15th.

23.01.2022 Just a quick note to let you know that little Oliver Theodore is in the house! A bit on the lighter side compared to his brother, weighing a mere 4.67kg, but a tad longer at 57cms. Just as cute. Another empowering homebirth thanks to our amazing birth team, my darling heart Janine IBirth - Intimate Birth & Beginnings, the legendary Jo Hunter, The German, Mum and my little Oxytocin Manager Archie, who stayed up all night, mopping my brow and offering sweet kisses and... words of encouragement. Thanks also to the lovely Erin Life Stories Photography who was with us again for this second instalment. More photos to come. And we were in uncontrollable HYSTERICS today (extremely counterproductive for belly and pelvic floor healing, let me tell you), over the sudden realisation that my favourite, most preached about food forms the bulk of this little ones first name. Completely unintentional, but I wonder will anyone genuinely believe me?!

23.01.2022 As eloquent as ever. <3

22.01.2022 Pregnant mamas: get nekkid! :) The fat soluble vitamins (A,D,E,K2) that Im always harping on about are critical to every stage of development, but particularly important during the preconception / pregnancy period. Best and most accessible food sources of vit D: pastured lard/bacon/pork fat, cod liver oil, oysters, sardines, mackerel, anchovies. x

22.01.2022 Finally! :) "Now, in a shocking U-turn, the films makers have been forced to retract one of its most fundamental and damning claims: that animal agriculture is responsible for an incredible 51% of greenhouse gas emissions (a figure that has always been criticized as wildly inaccurate by scientists, including the Union of Concerned Scientists). In a tweet from the Cowspiracy account earlier this year, Andersen and Kuhn have now quietly revised the 51% claim down to 18%, whic...h, while closer to the truth, is still probably much higher than the real figure. Whats more, because propaganda like Cowspiracy sets out to discredit all uses of animals in agriculture, it risks tarring regenerative agriculture with the same brush as intensive factory farming. There is now an overwhelming amount of evidence from all over the world that herds of animals grazing on land is not just sustainable, but can build soil, enrich ecosystems, support biodiversity, and sequester massive amounts of atmospheric carbon into the soil, which in fact is probably the best tool we have for rapidly reversing climate change."

22.01.2022 UPDATE: For anyone who read a post last night questioning the safety of well-known brand Koh / EkoWorx products, please read the response from Founder, Adam Lindsay (and also find the original post, shared from Nicole Bijlsma below): "We developed our Universal Cleaner with Dr Leigh Aldous, a specialist in Green Ionic Chemistry who at the time was running a department at UNSW Dept of Chemistry. Dr Aldous now resides at Kings College London. Nicole Bijlsmas observation th...Continue reading

21.01.2022 Under the telecommunications act its basically open-slather for these companies to install these devices in the suburbs," he said. "I was surprised. It is council-owned land, the property of residents in Ryde and we ultimately have no say. "It is a notification process, rather than a consultation process."

20.01.2022 Absolutely phenomenal summary of the evidence (and lack thereof)!

20.01.2022 The only hope is grass-roots level activism, folks.

19.01.2022 Brilliant read! Heres your checklist: breastmilk or other raw mammal milk in early childhood, a wide variety of fermented foods, fresh produce straight from the garden / farmer, dog kisses, mud pies, out in nature every day if possible (and exploring different places, rather than the same space), morning and late afternoon/dusk daylight exposure.. No: antibacterial wipes or gels (ever ever ever!), strict household hygiene (natural cleaning products only), unnecessary antib...iotics. Minimise: medications and stress, screentime in the afternoon/evening (and in general), exposure to GM / glyphosate / antibiotic-laden foods, exposure to tap water (chlorine, fluoride, heavy metals, antibiotic/med residues etc). Easy!

18.01.2022 It bothers me that you find Paracetamol/Tylenol in every household medicine cabinet and that weve become so complacent about administering it to children and babies. :( This is NOT a safe medication, by any stretch of the imagination and should be saved for acute emergencies only. If you research the critical benefits of fever for the developing immune system, its clear that the large majority of them do not require this kind of intervention. Glutathione stores are especially critical in times of illness and recovery. Dont mess with them unless absolutely necessary!

18.01.2022 Treatment vs prevention / cure. Relatively speaking, there's no money in the latter.

17.01.2022 BEST commentary yet on the absolutely absurd Lancet EAT report. From the fabulous Dr Vandana Shiva.

16.01.2022 Great news for those who are choosing to invest more of their grocery budget in high quality animal products (something I strongly recommend) - theres now a pretty effective and cheap way to wash non-organic produce!

16.01.2022 One of our lovely local farmers, Virginia from Grace Springs Farm summing up perfectly all the ways we can support our farmers - esp when the climate isnt playing fair (and no policies in place to remedy that, either)! Some great suggestions here. <3

15.01.2022 Brilliant initiative!

15.01.2022 Ive keenly awaited this research. Another reason to choose reusable over disposable nappies if/when possible.

15.01.2022 Oh to be 76 and living alone in Siberia

14.01.2022 Simply put, homebirth rocks! For the parents, for baby (and their microbiome!) and for siblings. Granted, its not for everyone, but the fact that Australian women will essentially no longer even have the option if they fall pregnant after March this year is an absolute travesty. #enough Australia. Women deserve choices.

09.01.2022 When your amazing midwife IBirth - Intimate Birth & Beginnings calmly and politely asks your breech baby to turn back down and you all watch it happen within seconds. MAGIC.

08.01.2022 The German. As charming as ever in these final days of pregnancy. Took bump shots for me yesterday and matter-of-factly remarks that it looks like the new Mazda. Just received this, as proof.

08.01.2022 Just IMAGINE what the world could be, if big industry got (the F) out of the way of this kind of simple and sustainable genius. :)

07.01.2022 Such a brilliant read about the inherent safety of homebirth for low risk women. PROMISE the birth posts will subside once this baby is out. Probably.

07.01.2022 What a beautiful message. <3

05.01.2022 Parents and society are conscious of the need to protect our children physically. We legislate car seats, bike helmets and hover in playgrounds. But protecting mental health is more obscure.

05.01.2022 For those of you following the recent homebirth story: we need to keep the pressure on AHPRA, please email and continue to email as much as possible! NOV 7 , 2018 Today Martina had her Immediate Action Committee Hearing.... Around 50 of us, including the surprise twin mum herself, met outside the building to show our support, hoping for justice to prevail. Devastatingly, this was not to be. Martina is suspended until AHPRA has finished their investigations, which could be weeks or months or even years. AHPRA have not contacted the families who are involved in the notifications to interview them for their account, and any grounds for this decision could only have come from hearsay from the hospital. How is this even procedural fairness?? This decision today is a death toll to midwife-supported homebirth for families who choose to make informed choices about their care, an example being having no scans during pregnancy. What private midwife will be able to agree to support such homebirths now, knowing it may cost her career? What happened to woman centered care? AHPRA has made it clear: if you want to birth at home and make informed choices about your care, you may have to do so without being able to access medical support. This is an attack on our birthing rights, as well as an attack on Martina. Tonight a hundred women in Melbourne are crying over their babies, grateful theyre already born. But a dozen women are crying over their belly babies, asking "what will we do now that the midwife of our choice is suspended??" You can help these women, and help Martina. We will be updating you again shortly, but for now you can keep sharing the petition, and send a complaint to AHPRA about the investigation process. Ask them: When a decision will be made on Martinas suspension - what time limit have they set themselves with the investigation as birthing women want their midwife of choice back? When or even if they intend to contact the families involved in the notifications? Whether they care that they will be increasing the rate of freebirth by this decision, putting women and babies at risk? AHPRAs email is: [email protected] This will not end here, with your help

04.01.2022 WHOA. Coke buying Mojo Kombucha and now Kraft-Heinz acquires Primal Kitchen! Cynicism is the most intuitive response here, but lets just marvel at the impact that this will have on the world. And what it says about the times were living in - just amazing!

03.01.2022 This is so fantastic and overdue!! Please help support David in standing up to the AHPRA bullies. "Until April 2018, I was a manager in the notifications (complaints) team at the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Over 2017/2018 in particular, I raised many concerns with senior management. These included: ... - concerns about the welfare of practitioners who were the subject of notifications - concerns about staff welfare due to extreme workloads and a lack of support for their difficult and stressful roles AHPRA does not know how to manage the large number of complaints being made, so AHPRA has adopted knee-jerk, panicked responses to key issues. Practitioners are being subjected to investigations for trivial (or non-existent) issues. Practitioner welfare is not considered in any meaningful way. Practitioners have to practise more defensively which in turn negatively affects patient outcomes. However, the public isnt being protected either. Investigations are time-consuming and the 1% of practitioners doing the wrong thing are not effectively managed. The good staff are leaving. The survivors who have been around for years keep their roles without accountability despite so many tragic outcomes. The result is a terrible, slow experience for practitioners, a lack of safety for the public, and a horribly stressful workplace for the good staff who try hard to do a great job. As a result of me raising these concerns, AHPRA forced me to resign, despite never raising any concerns about my work at all. I have now taken legal action in the Federal Circuit Court of Australia against AHPRA. I stood up for my staff and for practitioners, and AHPRA punished me for it. AHPRA is overrun by bullies, and individuals who care only for their own advancement and career development. Good staff walk out the door every day. AHPRA needs to change, but it will only change if it is forced to change. Through this action, I hope to force AHPRA to acknowledge at least some of its shortcomings. These legal proceedings will cost me at least $50,000. Any dollar you can contribute would be of great assistance. Please let me know if you have any questions - happy to clarify the above!" 02.01.2022 To my younger friends and followers hoping to have a home birth - and my mama friends whove already had the amazing opportunity to do so, (and anyone who believes in human rights and womens choice in childbirth, really).. its time to get active, if you want the option left on the table - like it is everywhere else in the world. Come on Australia. We are going backwards too fast.

02.01.2022 Hello from my baby bubble! Just popping on to social to share this post from my friend Kitsa who is (VERY unfortunately for us) closing down her beautiful shop in Crows Nest. Im thinking back to how we met and its a a testament to what a pioneer Kitsa is. Id arrived back from living in NYC (where live fermented foods were just starting to become a thing - and Id become hooked, as one does..) to find ZERO availability in Australia. Soon after, I noticed Kitsas beau...tiful products hitting the shelves and I called her up and spent 10 minutes gushing about how fabulous I thought she was! I soon learnt that she was ALWAYS ahead of the curve and she became my go-to person for product recommendations across the board. Her store Emporio Organico has been a wonderland for anyone in the health space and if you havent had a chance to see it in all its glory - NOW is your chance (but dont go buying everything until I have a chance to get in there)! Kitsa, Im so happy for you and quietly devastated for the rest of us. The shop was a masterpiece - so, so beautiful and Im sure this moment must be bittersweet. Congrats to you (and John of course!) on everything youve achieved and on behalf of the broader health community, thanks for all the groundwork that weve all benefited from. X

02.01.2022 It was never a good idea, but the latest findings on soy formula are particularly unfortunate.
