19.01.2022 It's Feelgood Friday! Now don't be alarmed, this might not 'feel good' to start with... but just go with us on this one :) It is with a tinge of sadness that St... James Moorabbin-Dandenong Lutheran Church have now set a date for their last service in the current Church plant. (You will note that they're deliberately NOT calling this a closing service!) The current building has served the congregation since 1956 and, like all good Lutherans, there are families that have worshipped with them for nearly all of that time. St James also recognises that the original members built it with their own hands - which is unheard of these days. They also have a growing sense of excitement in anticipation of getting a new plant with modern hall facilities that will enable them to better engage with the surrounding community. It helps that St James will keep the façade of the old building, and re-purpose some stained glass windows and other items - keeping a physical link with the past. (After all... how many Lutherans does it take to change a light bulb?) The journey to this point has not been a quick one but rather a progression of opportunities that they thank the Lord for providing. This includes merging into a single congregation in the last 12 months, which has been great learning for all involved. Everyone is also grateful to have a trained transitional Pastor in Greg Pietsch who will lead the congregation through this time in the wilderness without a worship centre of their own. Moorabbin-Dandenong are reminded, though, that God travelled with Moses and his people through that whole journey, just as Jesus will remain with them on theirs. All past members, friends and associates can come along to the last service on Sunday 30 June after which they will use the Wishart Centre just down the road until the new facility can be officially opened and dedicated. More information on this event can be found in the comments below, but here's an artist's impression of what the new facility will look like!
