06.01.2022 Meet Martin - one of the incredible St John Ambulance volunteers supporting his community during COVID. "I joined St John Ambulance back in 1996 after completin...g a first aid course at High School. Having a passion to help people I thought it would be the right stepping stone on the way to achieve my goal of becoming a registered nurse and paramedic. I signed up to support this COVID deployment so that I could help, educate and care for my community during this pandemic." See more
06.01.2022 In July I completed a first aid course with St John. Four days later I used that training to save my brother’s life. One night as my brother was getting ice-c...ream for my mother he suddenly collapsed. As he fell to the ground my mother screamed for help and we immediately came running. When I arrived and quickly assessed the scene I noticed that my brother couldn’t talk, move his right arm or his right leg I immediately got my niece to call an ambulance recognising that my brother might be suffering from a stroke. After he was rushed off to hospital and it was confirmed he had suffered a stroke, I was thankful for the first aid course I had completed. I recommend everyone should do some sort of training if they can, as it makes you feel a lot more confident and in control of the situation.
