25.01.2022 Our regional office is closed for administration enquiries, reopening on Monday 4 January. If you have a medical emergency, please call Triple Zero (000).

25.01.2022 We're doing business as usual.

25.01.2022 St John WA has now changed how we treat patients suffering from potential spinal injuries. Semi-rigid collars were traditionally applied if the patient was b...elieved to have been suffering from a cervical spinal injury, regardless of the severity level. This is no longer considered best practice and have since implemented a new assessment criteria. We encourage everyone to familiarise yourself with this update. Please share this amongst your friends and families. Thank you for helping us spread this message.

24.01.2022 You've already got what it takes. Many of our St John volunteers will actually never attend a major trauma, or even see any blood. We require more volunteers to fill a wide range of roles in our regional sub centres. If you have a passion for helping others, we have the role for you. And if you would rather provide vehicle maintenance, gardening, clerical duties, and of course, first aid response, we'd love to hear from you too.... It's a great way to learn new skills and get to know people in your community. We always need help, so to see how people exactly like you can contribute, head to stjohnchangelives.com.au or contact the local sub centre in your town. Help keep your ambulance service strong in your community.

23.01.2022 Paramedic Lauren has been learning Auslan (Australian sign language) during COVID-19, and she wanted to share a supportive message (with a few new signs she's l...earned) to our friends over east. Great work, Lauren. It's no surprise to us that we have some seriously talented individuals here at St John WA! #lovefromWA

23.01.2022 On Sunday The City of Albany hosted the first Emergency Services Fun Day, and what a fun day it was! Thank you to all our Albany emergency workers for participating but more, importantly thank you to the community for coming along and supporting all the crews!

23.01.2022 You've already got what it takes. We don't just need ambulance volunteers to respond to emergencies, we need all kinds of volunteers. There are plenty of roles that keep St John going and a few of them are probably things you're already good at.... We require more volunteers in our regional sub centres to fill a wide variety of roles to help us with vehicle maintenance, gardening, event organising, clerical duties and of course first aid response. We always need help, so to see how people exactly like you can contribute, contact your local regional sub centre or give us a call at the Great Southern regional office on 9841 4212. Help keep your local ambulance service strong.

22.01.2022 Take it easy on our roads this holiday season. If you're going to be driving longer distances, be sure to belt up, don't consume alcohol, hands off your phone, stay alert and take regular breaks. Driving can be a strenuous task, so pull over, grab a cuppa. If you're travelling with other people consider changing drivers if you can.... Your ultimate aim should be to arrive at your destination safely.

21.01.2022 Stickers available now! If you have a defibrillator (also known as an AED) in your vehicle or truck, these stickers are just for you. They are also available for your facility or building. Only $4.95 each.... Contact your local sub centre or the Great Southern regional office on 9841 4212 to purchase.

21.01.2022 Trigger Warning : The aim of this post is to help educate the WA community about what to do when experiencing or witnessing a Mental Health emergency. If any ...of the content expressed in this post upsets you, please discontinue reading and reach out for support. A couple of days ago, we posted about when you should call for an ambulance. We received a lot of feedback about the inclusion of when to call for help in a mental health emergency. We wanted to help answer those questions and have pulled together some useful information that will hopefully help in the event of a mental health emergency. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ How do I know if I need to call for help? This is a tricky question to answer. In most situations, it's not so black and white and sharing a checklist of potential symptoms may not be the right way to answer this question. We believe that when in doubt, always call Triple Zero (000). It's always better to seek assistance than do nothing at all. We're here to help and will do our best to assist you in your time of need. Our Communications Officer will do their best to offer assistance over the phone and get the right help to you as soon as possible. Always remember that you are important and deserve help when you need it most. If you need urgent help but do not want an ambulance, please reach out to the resources listed at the bottom of this post. Most importantly, if you or someone you know is at immediate risk of harm it is imperative you call for help. Not all responses to Mental Health emergencies will result in admission to hospital. All cases are managed individually and are subject to the needs of the patient at that time. Always follow DRSABCD and ensure first of all that you are safe from any danger. 19.01.2022 We’ve all seen this guy before hanging around our roller doors and mailboxes. Red-Back spider bites can actually be dangerous for children and the elderly, so i...t’s important to know how to treat this type of bite. As Australians, we’re pretty well equipped to handle spider bites, but in case you need a refresher, here’s how you can treat a bite: Follow the DRSABCD action plan Lay the patient down, rest and reassure. Ensure you monitor their condition for any changes. Apply a cold pack or cold compression to lessen the pain for no longer than 20 minutes Seek medical aid if the person bitten is a young child or elderly, has collapsed or is suffering from severe pain. If you’ve been bitten, you may experience some unpleasant symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, swelling and profuse sweating. Try to remain calm and seek medical attention. You shouldn’t necessarily need an ambulance for a spider bite, but in severe life-threatening cases always call Triple Zero (000).

07.01.2022 Today is a day of remembrance and reflection. As we bow our heads in silence at 11am, we will pay tribute to the men and women who fell in service of their country. In the four years of the First World War, more than 330,000 Australians had served and more than 60,000 of them died. They were fathers, brothers, sons, mothers and daughters; all working together to help protect our nation. We will remember them. Lest we forget. Credit: St John WA
